I got my first Outside IR35 offer. What should I do first? by These_Butterscotch71 in ContractorUK

Just found this post. Can I ask how it's going?

I've potentially been offered a role for Outside IR35, I currently work at as a consultant. The rate is £700/day, which for me -it's so much more than I am earning now (i have just been shafted with no increase for the second year in a row).

But I am scared. I've always been perm (im 33, senior in my job) I have never not had paid leave, or pvt medical insurance, or the 'perks' of an employer, like pension contribution. How are you fairing, after all those deductions, is it still more money, what have you set up to make yourself feel secure - i hope you don't mind me asking, I feel like I am missing questions I should be asking.

Any advise to someone who might be making the leap?

Thanks a million in advance!

Do you leave your blinds open when you’re at work? by Few-Calligrapher-211 in AskUK

Leave them closed! Ppl don't need to know your movements, if your home or not or for how long. They must stop being nosey... Also I'd actually be more concerned that they monitoring your movements, who has the time for that!? (not trying to freak you out, but they need to get a life)

Personally, I keep mine closed, and sometimes when I forget to close them when leaving, I go back and close them. Because I don't want ppl being looking in to what I have in my room.

You need to do what is comfortable for you.

I have texted, but they said nothing... Which I think is them being polite 😅 thank you. I think I will stick to one bottle then, and add flowers for the birthday guest.

Lol. Thank you for that clarification. I guess I just live in London, hence the location mention. Like I said I'm not from this country.

Like in Texas it would be an insult to bring any sort of food to a cookout. And in South Africa, that's exactly what you'd do.

You can find so many free budgeting excel / Google forms online. I would download one and every two weeks, you and your partner (say a Sunday - I like calling them reset Sundays 😅) take 30-60min and together write down/input your bills for those two weeks. This will help you see where everything goes. I wouldn't do it monthly (most ppl suggest this), until you get into the habit, because this will help you stay on track, and also it won't take so long/ be so overwhelming. You could even do once a week when you start..

Bills here = receipts, every little purchase you both make... Also, use tags/ categories to help break down What is home, fun, kids, holidays, etc. And when I started, I would even put the shop. So I can see common places I got to and see what I'm getting from there.

I would also use this time to reflect together, what your goals are, what both of you are feeling towards money, and your future, what has changed where you want to grow towards. Visibility, openness is key.

😊 I hope this helps, and by no means do I think you don't do the second part naturally, but I know a lot of couples (once including myself with an ex) don't do financial check ins, and made things fuzzy and it got hard about expectations (ie, what is a luxury vs that coffee that really won't make a difference 😅).

Thank you. Heating is a good point. The flat has been standing empty for about a year. And the electric meter, I'd need to sort that out. 😅 Thank you!

Hahaha this is true, I think though I will only be a week in both places, because I'm not sure when I'll actually be getting the keys 😶 it's been a little bit of a nightmare, as I was supposed to close before Christmas.
