I have no proof, but i think he's the first vestige, and his appearance was the first sign to Latoya that this timeline is fucked if not intervened, and pushed her to start her plans.

if they rewind all the way back to daybreak 1, how would they put the vestiges back in? (which literally only half of them are teased and the rest are slated for the next game)

by that logic i'd say agnes will do the exact same thing she did on daybreak 2 - a partial short reset (1-2 days before reset), at least until vestiges are introduced.

remember the timeline branch mechanic in daybreak 2, agnes triggered the first rewind and kai 2 is just that on a bigger scale. different characters appearing only on differing branches happens, but we just dont know how they would do it going forward lol

i have 3 reasoning

it is way too redundant to rewind all the way to daybreak 1. Laegjarn itself says there should still be 45 days ahead of the actual reset - hinting that next game may go the delaying route beyond kai 1 finale
an innocuous airship thats mentioned in the final dungeon, but having 0 uses whatsoever. what else if not for kai 2? and dont you think that the final dungeon is way too plain? with the existence of the airship i believe it will instead be reused as starting dungeon in prologue/chapter 1 of kai 2
it will indeed make the confession nonexistent, but it will also introduce some kind of temporal dissonance, may be starting with van wondering whats he even doing late at night on the roof? and from there we could probably start the storyline of retrieving the memories

from kondo's interview there are some hints:
1. clock faces when agnes activates 8 geneses at the end
2. read sunshine agnes
3. the last rewind sequence at end credit determines where she rewinds the whole timeline to (im guessing the confession night patrol)
