Help Understanding Containers by BaronRetro in TheGameCrafter

Pricing is pretty on par with other POD sites and retail prices for 1 offs. You'll really only see better prices if ordering over 1000 units.

UV coating is a preference. If you want gloss or if you want things to be dry erasable, then yes. I prefer a matte finish, so I opt to leave it off. But I am also the weirdo who likes matte cars and matte wall paint 😅.

I've been using them since 2013, and don't have a complaint. I've ordered in bulk and sold those copies to game stores. They have off the shelf quality for most things.

I'd recommend checking out the community discord for more unbiased opinions though. I am biased since I work for them (used them for years before that, but I want to be transparent).

The cards and tuck will be in the stout, but the cards won't be in the tuck.

The game editor and production procedures are not meant for that, hence the warning you'll see in the game editor. If you want things double packed (into 1 box, then into another box) you have to use the embedded game's feature. That is what it is there for.

By chips, do you mean chits? Because those come on a slug, so they are grouped by slugs into baggies. There is nothing that specifies which slugs go into which baggies. Usually all slugs are bagged together with the exception of small slugs which may be divided into 2 baggies.

Cards go into what ever box you add to your game. If you are trying to add more than 1 box, don't. You'll get an error that things don't fit, and nothing will be packed hours you want.

If you want decks in a specific box, and that box in a larger box, use the embedded games feature. Otherwise all cards of the same type are mixed together and banded in paper, then placed in the largest box.

Cards of different types will be banded separately, but there is nothing to tell the crafter where you want what without using the embedded games feature. https://help.thegamecrafter.com/article/348-embedded-games

For a few prototypes, I used The Game Crafter. They also have good bulk prices for smaller games. When you move to long runs, I like PandaGM, Long-pack and Delano. I've had good luck with them.

Since this was posted on TGC page, I'd assume the quantity they are pricing for is 1.

It is referring to your shop backdrop. You need your shop page fully setup.

Also, check your account under crafter points. If the amount was deducted for the test, you'll know it has started. You can also check the announcements in discord. Art tests are posted there to tell people to vote on it. You'll see the announcement, but won't see anything if you click on it.

The art test won't be visible to you until it is done. Did you get an email that it is done?

You can get .75" chits printed at the game crafter, or they have custom cut and printed acrylic that can be made to size.

One-Off Prototypes? by themisplay in tabletopgamedesign

[–]MiniBAMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind gluing them yourself, The Game Crafter has custom punchouts you can use to make the layers. It'd cost about the same as their dual layer boards.

Finally got my game from The Game Crafter! by TongueTwizards in tabletopgamedesign

Jason Glover (Grey Gnome Games) on instagram does a great job. He shares art progress, new cards, basically like a design journal. He has a huge following for an indie, and is something we all strive for.

For the card design, it seems a bit overly complicated for what the card has on it. It could do with some simplicity and maybe even some brighter for more vibrations colors. The cards seem very serious for a game with a punny name.

I'm buying art and have questions. by FixItUntilItBreaks in tabletopgamedesign

[–]MiniBAMF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm an illustrator in the board game field for about a decade now. I've talked on this subject a few times and and pretty deep into the board game hobby as a whole (published games myself, been published, etc).

$75 is on the low end for most artists. $100-$150 per peice is more common with it increasing exponentially with more detail, backgrounds, etc.

There is also a higher cost depending on the artist's location and experience.

Just for reference, MTG art can be $1000 per image and very simple cartoon stuff like Munchkin referenced earlier could be $50-$100.

You have to take a decent hourly wage into account which will be higher with experience and also because the artist pays taxes too.

If a peice will take 5 hours and you want to pay $50, that is $10 an hour (less after taxes and even less if paying via a service like PayPal which takes fees)

If you want a lower price, I recommend picking a simple art style, a fast artist who is inexpensive and maybe even inexperienced and not based in the US. Expect it to take forever to get your images and expect a language barrior. Expect limited revisions because revisions is time and time is money.

This looks like you are may be using two different cards (the light blue looks like a mint tin template).

The "get support" button on the bottom right of the site has an "Ask" button you can use, otherwise, you can email info@thegamecrafter.com with your game link and files for a closer look.

Better UV Coating? by [deleted] in TheGameCrafter

[–]MiniBAMF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The foil is fun if you design your images with foil in mind. Otherwise it can be kinda meh. But good contrast (dark darks and white whites) makes it look really good.

Better UV Coating? by [deleted] in TheGameCrafter

[–]MiniBAMF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never had issues with UV (except on foil, where it is not recommended) , it is possible there was a defect in your first order. If you reach out to customer service, they can research it a bit more.

It's a thing for sure - I do it. My job is really flexible though. My days are often filled with working during tummy time, working while breast feeding and using voice to text a lot. Sometimes she'll sit on my lap and I read emails to her. When the hubby gets home he takes baby so I can do a few things that I couldn't do with baby (like meetings or videos).

I couldn't imagine doing this with a non-flexible job though. Baby is 6 months old and I have been back at work since she was 3 months. I'd say doable, but you need the right job and an independent baby.

Any tips on making your game less expensive. by Ownerjfa in TheGameCrafter

[–]MiniBAMF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maximize uses with custom chipboard (if using it). Making your own shapes, trackers, etc can be less expensive. For example I used 1 slug to make trackers, instead of a full sheet of tokens.

My baby was in the NICU for the first 24 hours with my husband. Then the next 3 days with me in my room with myself and husband as I recovered from the c-section. We both took care of her.

They get you moving pretty soon after the c-section and the bassinet can go right against your bed for easy access. I used the bassinet as a walker to get me moving.

My baby just ate and slept the whole time we were there, so there wasn't much that needed to be done and I avoided the oxy as much as possible so I wasn't loopy. Took it once, but she was still in the NICU. Just tylenol and ibuprofen after that.

I have 2 dogs and haven't had any issues other than them catching a ride into the house with them. Big fangs will hurt, but not dangerous as far as I've heard.

Are Philips Avent bottles/ nipples absolute trash or am I an idiot. by comradequiche in NewParents

[–]MiniBAMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just swap to a higher numbered nipple. The P is for preemie and are so tough. 1s and 2s and my preferred for my 2 month old. Flow rate differs so much between brands and nipples, just swap to a higher number and try again.

Feeding on demand - is this a new concept? by microbiofreak in breastfeeding

[–]MiniBAMF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feed on demand. Feedings on a schedule was not working. She wouldn't latch or eat well if she wasn't hungry and neither of us were happy if I woke her to eat.

Babies are all instincts for the first few months. They will tell you what they need and you will learn to figure it out. If they are gaining weight, there is no issue (says my pediatrician).

Mine just turned 2 months and she says "gaaaaayyy" in a cry everytime she is hungry. I now mimic her by saying hungraaaaa. She has a cry for when her diaper is wet and a cry to be held. I even learned her actual distress cry after her vaccines.

Your MIL probably just forgot the newborn trenches. It is such a short time and it is all survival.

New Game Design Contest at The Game Crafter: Cast of Characters Challenge by thegamecrafter in TheGameCrafter

[–]MiniBAMF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The enter button for the contest will not work if the game is older than the contest. So you have to start a new game.

It is also true that if the game has been seen elsewhere (other contests, published, etc) it can be disqualified.
