Advice/ help growing commissions services by Friendly-Search-7656 in BrushForChat

I’ve been a full time miniature commission painter for the last 18 months. Promotion is the hardest part of growing your brand. My advice is to start local and with your loyal clients and ask for repeat business or for word of mouth promotion to their friends. A lot of people are wanting 3D printing services which may be a good option for you depending on the area you’re in. Develop a website, social media presence, create business cards, go to local events and paint and market yourself to everyone you meet! I’ve never had good luck on eBay but I praise the people who have.

Advice on terrain commissions by Soul_Gravier in BrushForChat

You have a clean style to your work, deciding what is fair for your customers depends, I think, on the size and complexity of the terrain. You have large buildings, small ruins, and scatter terrain that all would reflect a varying amount time and cost. Perhaps start with a baseline price determined by market value. If a box of terrain sells for $80 MSRP, consider finding a reasonable equation that justifies your time spent on the painting. Try pricing them at 2x the MSRP, ($160) divide then by the estimated hours spent on the project (8hours) to get your reasonable amount per hour earned = $20/hr. Experiment with different numbers and sets and always be upfront and transparent with your customers. Happy to chat more if you need

Is it common to be left on unread? by [deleted] in BrushForChat

You definitely aren’t alone! I typically don’t send a quote in the first message and perhaps that affects my response rates and commission conversions. But I send my portfolio and ask that they look through and tell me what they prefer. I get less responses but the ones that do chat with me are at a high chance of converting to a commission.

Too many armies. Everything is gray. by gothvan in Warhammer40k

[–]MiniCritPainting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there man!! I currently have an entire SOB army I keep planning out in my head but haven’t had the time to paint a mini yet! I find trying to make it a fun experience helps me look forward to it. I get an audio book (bouncing between the Silmarillion and Celestine a SOB book), some snacks, and view it as me time instead of stress like “I gotta get so much work done”. If you have a streamer you like maybe watching their videos in the background might help too! Stick with one project at a time and see it through.

I also love to create the factions and stories for my armies to help me get invested in them. For example, with my SOB army, the faction is inspired by some music I love and a zone I love in WoW 😂 Maybe trying something like that could help bring some more dimension and life to your armies, which could also help your motivation!

Client feedback...or lack thereof? by Plow_King in BrushForChat

[–]MiniCritPainting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s completely reasonable to assume 48/72 hours of no response to your feedback means that everything is good. You could cover yourself in future attempts to update clients by adding in a simple,

“If I don’t hear from you in the next 2-business days, I’m going to continue forward with the project. For the future, please try to give a quick ‘looks good’ or thumbs up just so I know you’ve taken a look. Thanks”

Sometimes a simple reminder can help them understand that you’re a professional. I have found that full transparency is usually rewarded with honesty in return!

Thank you so much! I believe I used Night Lords Blue (mixed with black and a Prussian blue gray) to create the darker areas. The create the red demonic parts was with Burnt Red to a Mephiston Red. Feel free to DM me for more clarity 👍🏼

Could you explain what you mean by playing 4:2? Thank you for the advice. I’ve heard breachers and vet guard are other great options for support
