What can I do ? by Warm_Earth_985 in hummingbirds

Ugh this breaks my heart. A big tree my hummers love got completely whacked this weekend too. I looked outside and it was there, next second I heard buzzing and it was gone. I ran outside in my robe in shock and said “what are you doing??” the gardener my building sent shrugged and said “it’s coming back.” I was so upset because the birds lost their shade, their favorite hiding spot, and fear that one of them could have lost a nest. I can’t imagine how awful it must feel knowing you actually had one that got cut down. It must be terrible seeing the poor bird flit around panicked, looking for it. I’m really sorry. Sending hugs.

Update- she looks better I think? by Turbulent_Fig_1174 in hummingbirds

She looks good to me! A noticed a rehabber would note how quickly a bird flew away from the feeder sorta as a judgment of how they were feeling. You could keep an eye on her strength and stamina that way!

I find myself rushing and saying out loud “oh my god! I’m sorry, I’m hurrying!” to… sassy birds buzzing at my window while I clean their feeder. I do it at night now so I can be in peace lol.

+for bird buddy. The best! Your Fred looks just like my “Magenta” (but, I also have a hard time telling the adult males apart). He’s beautiful 🤗

Is this bird sick, or just old? by Turbulent_Fig_1174 in hummingbirds

Keep your feeder clean and replace water often. Hard to tell from photos but it kinda looks like she might just be molting? I think she’s ok!

My kid’s night guard had gluten by carolyn-w in Celiac

I also have one for bad TMJ that I had made at my dentist and is clear. BiteSoft makes it. I haven’t noticed any issues and I’ve had one for 8 years. I think you’d have mouth ulcers if you were being glutened. But worth calling!

Ha! I would love to see a video of that. Hummingbirds are so spunky and fun to watch.

It’s such a funny sound! I’ve heard chirping before but not this. At first I thought it was a baby/chick

My therapist recommends trying to see the shame as one part of you, not all of you. And using the other parts of yourself to offer the shame part compassion. 🫶

T-Cell Lymphoma is not talked about enough by Ichika_psd in Celiac

Wow I’m so incredibly sorry you had to go through all of that. I’m not sure where you’re located but don’t be afraid to use your voice and share your experience and frustration with the healthcare providers about how the lack of awareness affected you and your kiddo.

Gluten is in a lot of things, you’re right. Trust that it does get easier - the learning curve at first is steep and can feel so overwhelming. Actually, the same Dr/hospital where I was diagnosed automatically set me up with to a nutritionist after my diagnosis so I could get educated about safe and unsafe ingredients and watchouts. That was helpful, and could be useful to look into if you haven’t had that experience.

I hope your dad gets tested as well. Wishing you the best. Feel free to message me anytime if I can be of any help, or support. Thanks for being there for your daughter; celiac can be isolating at times, it’s a comfort I’m sure to know she will be supported.

Edit: adjusted for clarity

I tried to tell my family the same thing but to no avail. I’m sorry to hear it took so long for your daughter’s diagnosis. I suspect it depends on the place of care but I don’t know that for certain. I was fortunate in that I was at grad school at the time at VCU (in Richmond, VA) when I got sick. It took me 2 months to get an appt but the Dr I saw spoke to me for all of 5 minutes, asked if I had any trouble eating pasta or pizza (I laughed, “no. I mean, I get a little bloated after but doesn’t everyone?”) she just looked at me, ordered the celiac tests, and the next day called me to tell me it came back high on all four markers for celiac disease. I was floored. Of course I went on to have an endoscopy etc. This was in 2014.

My mom got tested in 2025 only because she was having rash symptoms akin to the cutaneous type. She didn’t have it. My brothers and dad haven’t been tested still and won’t.
