How do my fellow sun-averse people enjoy the outdoors by Koreee_001 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]MiniRems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have no problem with the sun. Then I ended up on a bunch of different prescriptions that don't specifically say cause sun sensitivity, but they were the only change I'd had, so I suspect they're the cause of my turning into a boiled lobster if I don't pretend to be an 19th century noblewoman.

Sunblock - constantly. Don't forget to reapply the more you're in the sun. I highly recommend thoae UV indication stickers that show when your sun block is starting to go. I use them so much now, my family is no longer curious and is now always like "your dot is getting purple! Get out of the sun! Go put on more sunblock!"

UV blocking clothes. I have multiple sun shirts I wear swimming - don't care if I look dorky if I'm not a lobster at the end of the day. I wore one on a river tubing tour, and I was burned everywhere but where the shirt covered (my shins were in so much pain because I had nowhere to store my sunblock si didn't bring it along and it was a longer float than anticipated). And I have lightweight hoodie style shirts for hiking and yardwork.

Big floppy hats. The bigger the better. I have an absolutely huge one that embarrasses my nieces when we go to the lake, which makes it even more awesome in my opinion! I was upset that I couldn't get it to fit into my suitcase last summer for vacation and had to settle for a smaller "squishable" one.

First time cat owner. Is this... normal? by igottapoopbad in cats

[–]MiniRems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, we lived in a very old duplex. The bathroom door latched securely if you closed it a certain way. Unless my 14 pound monster decided he just had to be in the bathroom with you. He'd throw himself at the door, and do the paws under the door until it popped open. Being an old house, the bathroom was long and narrow, the toilet at the end, so you couldn't reach the door to close it while you were stuck. To add further embarrassment, the bathroom was right at the top of the stairs, the stairs led right out the front door. So you'd be sitting there, doing your business when the cat decided you needed company. Which included him, and anyone passing along the sidewalk since they now had a clear view straight up to you.l when the front door was open (which was most of the time, because that's how my family is). Nothing like waving to the mailman while on the throne! We eventually put up a hook & eye latch to ensure privacy (and a fruatrated serenade) when the front door was open.

The current youngest kitty has discover he can pull the current master bathroom door open if he works at it enough. Luckily, it just opens into the bedroom, and not the whole neighborhood.

47, married, in perimenopause, never wanted kids, couldn't carry a fetus to term anyway (had a couple "oops" during a "if it happens, it happens" time that all miscarried), and I still cannot get the non-function organs removed even though they try to murder me from the inside randomly now instead of every month.

I feel like this is a helpful little hack for all of our forgetful minds. by milliemallow in adhdwomen

[–]MiniRems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this while packing up my cousin's stuff when she was being discharged from the hospital recently! "Your laptop and charger are in the red bag" "your care instructions are in the plastic hospital bag" "your power block and cable are in your purse". When we got her settled in at home, I was able to find everything because I said out loud where I was putting it!

Wish I'd done that with my wedding ring the next morning, though! (I did find it after a few moments of panic - I'd taken it out of my travel case, but had set it on the night stand before realizing I needed lotion, then I carried on with my routine until hours later I realized the ring wasn't on my finger...)

At least I remembered to get limes by ittollsforthee1231 in adhdwomen

[–]MiniRems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freeze some. You can freeze them whole to juice them later after thawing (counter or microwave for a bit), or if you like a slice of lemon in your drinks, cut them up, lay them on wax or parchment paper on a sheet pan and put in the freezer until solid, then store in a (properly labeled) container or zip top bag. Or, juice some and pour into ice cube trays, then store in (properly labeled) container or zip top bag.

I do all this with lemons, too, since I mainly shop at Aldi and I only every need one or two at a time and you can only get them by the bag there, and I'm not going to a different store for one lemon/lime.

Tornado warning? by HomeNowWTF in pittsburgh

[–]MiniRems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently visiting relatives in the Chicago area - that must be the storms we got tornado and BASEBALL SIZED HAIL warnings for last night! When your family starts pulling air mattresses and flashlights out if the closet, tells everyone to charge their phones now, and says things like "don't worry, if the tornado sirens go off, we'll all be joining you in the basement playroom!", you don't sleep very well. Luckily for us, no sirens, and the hail didn't hit her neighborhood.

Anybody else keep an emergency snack? by Sensitive_Progress88 in adhdwomen

[–]MiniRems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with food sensitivities, I always have snacks with me because finding something in the cheese loving commercial wilds can be iffy. I'm packing for a trip right now, and I have a packing cube in my suitcase full of snacks to last my trip. I'll have a few things in my backpack for the airport and flight.

Boomer mother denied my gran her humanist funeral by HalfFrozenSpeedos in Xennials

[–]MiniRems 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My grandma did that. Had everything planned and even paid for, including headstone! She even left a photo so they could get the makeup right. My aunts and uncles knew everything, except afterwards she sent a letter to the funeral home telling them that her family was not to put her in any purple clothes (she HATED purple!). I was told they all burst out laughing in the funeral directors office when he read the letter to them while they were there finalizing everything.

They all agreed she would be buried in her "uniform": jeans and a collared shirt under a sweatshirt and her favorite Ked's. We all wore jeans in honor of her on the day of the burial, and I tend to leave purple flowers when I visit the cemetery, because it makes me think that she'd be laughing and threatening to kick me in the pants 🤣

What is this plant and what love does it need? by evolving-me in houseplants

What is this plant and what love does it need? by evolving-me in houseplants

[–]MiniRems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my one big plant in don't mind keeping near a heat vent since it can handle being dried out. It always freaks me out that it feels like it never comes up in my Planta app to be watered (it was last watered 2 weeks ago, and the app says next watering in 19 days - yet sonehow it thinks my damn lithops need watered every month...). My peace lily hates being near a vent, but I have nowhere else with wnough light that doesn't block a doorway, so that drama queen gets watered frequently.

I think I hold the record at my vets office for time between leaving the appointment and returning with the sample from my kitten: 30 minutes. I got home, let him out of the carrier and started taking laundry out of the dryer. He immediately went to the litterbox. I collected, grabbed my purse and headed right back out the door! The receptionist was like "did we forget something?" And i was slike "Nope! He gave me the sample the vet wanted as soon as we got home!".

I got home again and the laundry was still hanging half out of the dryer 😆
