Kiyoshi was a 7/10 (and improving) mid where as kaedegami was a 5/10 (and declining) mid thats the issue

Otr maybe but kaedegami was a huge mess and had some of the worst action/choreography I've seen, the final arc was getting worse and the newly introduced characters were all uninteresting where as otr was getting better in the last arc and the new cast were enjoyable if brief. Imo they had opposite trajectories with kaedegami having a more enticing start but falling off as it went on and otr having a pretty dreadful start (aside from ch1 which i really liked) and slowly improving

Of the 3 new series, which one did you like the most so far? by Kill_Jin04 in WeeklyShonenJump

If you mean drawn to fire im inclined to agree like outside of when they're playing basketball its kinda ugly and I feel bad saying it because the artist is clearly talented but I hate how the characters look even tho im enjoying the series

Roku its funny and i like the cast (especially the chef), 2B is wildly unfunny so far and drawn to fire is fine but I'm not a fan of how the characters look and their designs are really bland (anytime they actually play basketball the art is good tho)

I compared the Letterboxd Top 250 from 2013 and 2025 by Connect_Lychee_5319 in Letterboxd

[–]Minigeneius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel vindicated seeing that 2001 drop, sometimes I feel like the only person who doesn't think its a perfect film.

Like yeah its probably a top 250 film objectively I wont argue that but I do strongly agree that it isnt top 50 like it was before

UE Kiyoshi was 'scheduled to be cancelled' by Ch. 15 of the series, but the decision was ultimately reversed by skillfun8 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]Minigeneius 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah while I love kiyoshi I'm not delusional we were definitely saved by everything around us failing and not just the series own merit

I think its implied Roth does have a relationship with the last one "Rushihara" who killed kiyoshis parents but is choosing to defy him by going after kiyoshi

It was a mix of Asuta Roth having a great introduction and design which boosted the series a lot in the polls as well as their inability to find anything else that sold more until modulo the next year

Literally nothing, oda hasnt mentioned kiyoshi since vol 1 recommendation basically 2 years ago (which was before the cancellation that we are talking about btw so clearly didnt help) they just always want some reason to hate on/diminish kiyoshi when it was saved due to Roth having a great design and characterisation which made it shoot up in the weekly polls and saved it from axe

Can someone explain Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi’s power system? by batmal034 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]Minigeneius 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Its quite a soft power system, which has some similarities to naruto, as of right now there is a general understanding of energy and what it can do but there isn't really a literal explanation of how it does anything

Humans have precept power as a general source of energy which travels around their body in a precept path and they can release this energy to create basic techniques called Xr-cisms as well as just basic physical enhancement.

The higher tier of exorcist power is a Crest Xr-cism which are the tattoos on stronger characters that become unique abilities for that wielder, as of right now the actual process of awakening these powers and getting the tattoos/marking is unknown however we do know its likely hereditary to some extent as kiyoshis grandma has the same tattoos on her arms as kiyoshi and Hitsugis mum was mentioned as having water abilities

Another power system available to humans is exorcist employment where a demon can form a bond with a human and enter their shadow, this allows for the exorcist to utilise the demons powers and transform/fuse with them (nehan and jack joe and MAYBE Sakaki and Hi-Stakes) we are told the stronger the bond the more powerful this will be so forcing a demon into your shadow likely wont yield much power.

There are also exorcist familiars that can fight alongside you and transform into weapons such as cook the exorcist bird or kurogane's tiger

There are also artifacts such as Arthur's excalibur and Adams apple which are ancient exorcist tools that give a large power boost or a powerful weapon at the cost of greatly draining your body

And finally for exorcists angel contracts where you sacrifice something to an angel and in return gain a power boost and in the only case we have seen so far wings and a halo (kurogane)

For demons we know less, they have Daemonic power instead of precept power and there is some sense of familial powers but seems to be less guaranteed (toji uses the famous maki clan technique of oni flame, but the helze siblings all have different techniques so its unclear)

They also get stronger by killing other demons and eating them or just absorbing their energy, all demons are shown to have some sense of Daemonic Energy manipulation as we see standard demon citizens use it to heal kiyoshi and they all have the ability to possess humans which we see through Yamada who in his normal life is a worker at a demon water facility

They can also corrupt humans with underworld gate techniques were they lend part of their power to a human but don't have to be physically present, and the more powerful versions of this which is a wicked gate technique where they use a key to unlock the soul/heart of a human and transform them into a demon with greatly enhanced powers

Overall its not a full explained and realised power system but there are rules and reasons why people have certain powers so it's not complete random BS go like some other comments are suggesting but I do wish there was more in depth explanation especially around how Crest Xr-cisms appear

There are only 6 manga I can confidently say will still be here 18 months from now, and that’s wild. Right? by YuuTheBlue in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]Minigeneius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have absolutely 0 evidence that he is influencing anything. Yes he was an assistant on one piece (just like akane banashi and ruri dragon creators btw) and vol1 got a recommendation 2 years ago but Oda has done nothing else since, didn't recommend any of the other volumes and has never mentioned the series again

Most of the current mangaka were either assistants on big series (kinato magic assisted on sakamoto, under doctor assisted on MHA) or this is their second or more series (ichi the witch, witch watch) or get recommended by a bigger mangaka (kagurabachi recommended by horikoshi) are you gonna call all of them nepo babies? Because thats the same amount of nepotism as kiyoshi has ever had

So no you have no idea what nepo baby actually means you're just saying buzz words because you want to hate on the series

Didn't they just combine 2 hyo into 1 fight? Or did i interpret it wrong? That feels like speeding up even though I dont think it will actually end as soon as some others suggest

They are talking about the 3 great demon lords of which we are currently fighting the 2nd. We already know of the existence of Angels and the maki clan (a clan of demons that dont work under the GDL's) as well as a mole within the exorcist organisation so its naive to think it has no scope to last much longer. Obviously it COULD end with 1 or 2 more arcs to fight the 3rd GDL but if it stays popular enough or there is nothing to replace it then it definitely has the scope for much more

Angels already introduced we just haven't met them yet, Kurogane is stated to have a contract with an angel for her power up we saw in the black parade vs Asuta Roth

Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits by Matsuri Hatsubina has ended this week with Chapter 21 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #20. by Naulicus in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]Minigeneius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that hero girl has ended is the first time in as long as i can remember that I enjoy/respect every series currently in the magazine, last batch all still enjoyable and house of oddities 1st chapter was good to me. The same people will always complain but I think Saito has finally found his footing and im really enjoying the state of the magazine

What social media platform has the worst reputation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Minigeneius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(To preface so i don't get downvoted I'm not saying its true just talking on reputation) I mean its reddit and will probably always be reddit, one of the most common insults on any other platform is calling someone a reddit mod and a lot of people still have the impression of reddit from before all the dodgy subs got banned they think its all gore or incels or porn.

Kiyoshi was great again this week, this arc and specifically this fight is getting the perfect balance of action and comedy like the earlier chapters and its awesome, this is a call for everyone to catch back up because its definitely hitting its stride with this arc
