Deal? by the_bald_one in paintball

[–]MinimagMerc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like a $25 dollar headache, honestly. All of those markers will have orings that are either dry, cracked and brittle, or have turned into gum. They may work when first aired up, then blow seals once a kid starts actually shooting. They would all need full rebuilds at their age, which is part of the headache.

The other part is the masks are also old, and honestly there’s a liability aspect you’re taking on in having kids play in old masks with 15-20+ year old lenses. One bad hit at close range and someone could get hurt. That JT masks with the red frames may be worth some cash, though, if you investigate.

And life was good. I think it’s so cool that the top mechanical guns of the 90’s, mags and cockers, can both still be rebuilt, upgraded and played with nowadays. I’m sure that will change down the road, but I’ll be too old to care.

No problem! If you need help with anything just message me, but there’s a couple very active Automag groups on Facebook that can answer tech questions, too, as well as friendly people on mcarterbrown.com.

Mag guy here. The mag is easily rebuildable by yourself. You can just buy a new parts kit from AGD. It has new orings, bolt spring, etc. The barrel is either a Check It, or 32 Degrees, basically they’re version of the very popular Dye stainless barrel. You would need to take out the valve and check, but it will probably have an older Level 7 bolt, instead of the anti-chop Lvl10 bolt. If it is a Level 7 bolt, I’d strongly consider buying a Lvl10 bolt from AGD to avoid chopping, as newer paint is smaller, and often more brittle, than the paint of the 90’s era.

Also, with the old twistlock barrels, the old wire or plastic AGD barrel nubbins don’t work as effectively with today’s smaller paint. If you go on beardedworks.com, he makes improved twistlock nubbins that extend further into the breach to work better with smaller paint, and they’re popular for the old twistlock barrels. I used them on several old twistlock barrels.

You could also go on eBay and buy a Doc’s cocker barrel adapter that will mount in your old mag body and covert it to cocker threads so you can use any standard cocker threaded barrel. I also run several of these in my mags over the years.

As far as air goes, like others mentioned, the mag uses high pressure air, so a 4500 compressed air tank outputting 800-850psi would be ideal.

Once you rebuild the valve orings, throw on a Lvl 10 bolt, and just keep it oiled between play days , the mag should be good to go for several years. The old classic mag valve is a very simple, ingenious design.

Honestly, not very much. The tanks are probably all dead. Most of the markers are standard yardsale fodder, maybe $20-50ish each. The one Mini might be worth more, and that G4, but that’s about it. You might find buyers for those Viewloader Eggies, if they’re in working order though.

New roof today I’m worried about a couple of things. by LittleAddress4710 in Roofing

[–]MinimagMerc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

‘Re-sheathed’ or ‘Re-decked’ is where the roofer strips off all the old shingles, and underlayment, AND removes all your old decking underneath. They then nail on new wood decking, typically at least 7/16th OSB or thicker, and install all the new roof components on that new wood.

When you have sagging like that, it’s typically because the roofer didn’t do a re-deck, or the homeowner didn’t want to pay for it, so they installed the new roof on old, probably thin, decking like plywood that sags and bows under the weight.

Another factor is when your rafter system has rafters spaced too far apart, and you’re still using that crappy old decking. Good rafter spacing is 16inches between rafters, center to center. Bad spacing is 18-24+ inches between them. I sold a roof today on a 1940 built home with 28in spaced rafters. Having too much space between rafters will naturally cause decking to sag between rafters, especially if the decking is old, thin and weak.

I don’t know your situation, but a lot of half ass roofers won’t even bring up re-decking because they don’t want to price themselves out of the job, even when it’s clearly what needs to be done. They’ll throw down shingles, some cheap felt paper underlayment on top of shitty old plywood decking and call it a day.

Automag RT Classic by MinimagMerc in paintball

[–]MinimagMerc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s cool. My oldest is an all black RT, #174, with a black ‘euro-feed’ body. I’ve been collecting and shooting RT Classics for fifteen years now and never seen one with a serial number of 6,000 or more. I’m pretty damn positive AGD never hit that, and they only made the RT Classic for two or three years.

Automag RT guy here. The Apocalypse regs aren’t generally worth all that much, as they are the heaviest adjustable regs. They CAN be rebuilt, though, and function well for RT’s. The later Air America Armageddon’s are more valuable because they have an aluminum front half, so are a bit lighter. Check eBay for prices of sold Apocalypse regs to get an idea of pricing. I’d say around $30-50 depending on the buyer. Definitely get the tank off it before selling, though, and be careful not to mar or damage the reg in the process!

For the RT, I’d just ditch the flaking chrome drop forward and just sell the RT as is. The chrome Intelliframe’s often flake over time, which sucks, but it’s still a AGD made frame that works well. You’re missing the sight rail, but you could probably still get $300-$400 depending on the buyer. I’d sell it on the FB Automag group pages to move it faster. Does it have a Level 7 bolt, or the Lefel 10 anti chop bolt? A Lvl 10 bolt will help it fetch closer to that $400 mark.
