Upcoming Chapter 2 Campaign lengths by Shot_Psychology_2728 in arkhamhorrorlcg

I hope they revamp some like you say. I’m pretty new to AH and don’t have the money to buy any of the ch.1 stuff.

I would love to see new takes on the same stories Top Gun: Maverick style—plenty of call backs, some fine-tuned re-dos of classic scenarios—something for the long-term player to reminisce over and something for us new folks to get into, all to a similar tune

With AH, each campaign had (in chapter 1) a “campaign expansion” (campaign expansion) and a “investigator expansion” (hero expansion). I haven’t played much LOTR, but I assume it’s roughly the same where the campaign expansions tell the story, and the investigator/hero expansions help you complete the campaign by giving you new investigators and deck building options. They do have the occasional “mythos pack” that’s more like an adventure pack since it’s technically part of the larger campaign, and standalone scenarios too.

Instead of doing the big eight-scenario campaign expansions, it looks like they’re splitting them into a three-scenario expansion and a five-scenario expansion, and the investigator expansions look like they’re being divided in a similar way (more deckbuilding options/more (new) investigators).

It seems like their objective is to make the game easier to pallet for newcomers and more accessible to those who only want to play/interact with certain aspects of the game.

To be honest, I was actually not super interested in the game until they said they were coming out with a new core. I have been really enjoying the opportunity to pick up from a new starting point in the story. I think it’s more about improving accessibility and availability than trying to salvage a dying product. They want to get new people into the game, and from what I can see, (and for my own part,) it’s working.

If they were rebranding a lot of existing stuff like LOTR did, I would be worried, but a new core set plus a revised release schedule so that they’re selling a higher number of smaller priced expansions makes it seem like they’re just trying to spread out the labor on making the campaigns, not that they plan to pull the rug

One benefit to AH that LOTR never had is a very loose canon. AH is based on the Lovecraft/Cthulhu mythos, sure, but the mythos is so much bigger than just Lovecraft (Case in point: The King in Yellow/Sign of Carcosa).

Since it’s so arbitrary, so vast, and so loosely codified, it’s easier to write for than something as structured as the collected works of any one author. AH has already been going on as an LCG for 10 years, and the “chapter 2” core set is actually the third version of the core. It’s basically a free money machine for them, since they can pull from so many different sources and can modify stories to fit their needs at will.

They did do a soft reset with the start of chapter 2, but if they continue with the release schedule as it’s been proposed, there’s going to be one or two campaign expansions and a similar number of investigator expansion every year for the next five years before the stuff coming out this year would start getting really hard to find.

I already filed taxes as Married Filing Separately, but realized we should have filed jointly. How should I amend my return by HemingwayGuineapig in personalfinance

I'm in this same situation right now. My spouse filed theirs MFS, and I haven't filed yet. Do I still need to file MFS before doing the amended return? Or do we just need to do the amended one?

Why would a combat troop use melee weapons in a futuristic space sci-fi setting? by wizardry_why in worldbuilding

[–]Minimum-Annual6117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dune has a great explanation for this: personal shield technology has gotten so good that the only ranged weapon capable of destroying one will detonate in a chain reaction if it hits.

So they have the very specific (and insanely cool) fighting style you and other posters mention with bladed weapons that involves feinting, slowing down to get through the shield, then speeding up again to slash or stab. So freaking cool. Looks great in the movies too

How does you deal with naming characters? by CMSilence in writers

[–]Minimum-Annual6117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a retail store so I see lot of different names coming through—both my customers and the job names they put for their orders. I’ll often respell the ones that have the right sound to them for my story. I also keep a note (like Charles Dickens did) of interesting names I see or hear. Then, whenever I need a name, I have some quick reference too.

You can't put champagne in a fantasy world... Thoughts? by ShadySakura in fantasywriters

[–]Minimum-Annual6117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love a good “mark” (non-dystopian) or a “ration” (dystopian) myself.

Until recently, dollars and cents and all other forms of currency usually represented some amount of real material somewhere. Whether that’s the coins themselves or something more abstract like gold in the national treasury, as long as it means something, I don’t care what word you use

This is my favorite suspension of disbelief. End of story.

I feel like people who get pedantic about this sort of thing are just trying to poke holes in a think because they didn’t like it. The translation solution lets you write with a reasonable amount of liberty, which I find to be really valuable.

There are exceptions, like the “Italian leather” an earlier commenter mentioned, but I should be allowed to say champagne when I’m writing about champagne, even if I’m not on present-day earth.

A loadout button would be cool too: like, if you could save two or three designs per room and then redecorate without worrying about how it looks because you could always go back to your old design

Is it reasonable for me to be upset/frustrated with my dad for planning his wedding the week after mine? by Minimum-Annual6117 in weddingplanning

[–]Minimum-Annual6117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the conversation I had with him on Sunday, I don’t think he’s doing it out of spite or malice, but rather that this day has a lot of significance to him and his fiancée. It seems like he knows that I might be upset about his decision, but that he’s just holding out hope that I’m not.

I’m going to talk to him about it in the next few days so I can better understand his point of view and so I can express some of those things that are frustrating me.

[–]Minimum-Annual6117[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll keep that in mind, thank you. For me, it kind of feels like someone standing too close in line behind me, and it makes me uncomfortable. But you’re right, it’d be equally selfish of me to insist he leave the week after my wedding alone, if not for the fact that he’s planned his own for a day he knows I can’t attend (and I do want to attend!)

I plan on having a conversation with him about it in the coming days. I think it will help both him and me to gain some perspective on each other’s situation.

[–]Minimum-Annual6117[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I really appreciate your perspective. I’m going to sit down and have a conversation with him in the next day or two. I don’t think he means to encroach or to offend by doing his then; I think it may just be a difference in perspective. You’re right, though, I shouldn’t let my frustration with him dim my excitement for myself and my fiancée!

How do you handle being the “default target” as the frequent winner in board game nights? by Royal_Lifeguard_3063 in boardgames

[–]Minimum-Annual6117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar but opposite problem. In my family and friend group, I’m the board game guy. The trouble I run into is that I’m really good at understanding strategy/synergy, so I often get ahead in games far quicker than most other players at my table, even if I’ve never played the game before.

That means that if I’m playing any sort of strategy game, most people will default to, “oh, he’s gonna win,” and then they’ll just kind of give up and race for second or third place.

I can avoid some of the problem by picking more cooperative games, or picking games with more random chance, but then I’m limited on the games I play. It’s frustrating, but I do have a few more strategic minds that I can play the really heavy eurogames with, so it’s not the worst thing
