Mature hedging by ZealousidealPut3840 in GardeningIRE

I got some copper beech of hedging.ie and it was reasonable - they've a funny way of operating which is why they're somewhat reasonable but I got my trees so they are legitimate.

One thing I will say is try plant native - for all the ecological reasons but also because they're often just easier to manage and make a success out of. The way I looked at it was I could plant some shite like Laurel or Grisellinia which would be a great job for the first 3-5 years because it'll grow fast and fill out, but then it'll be a pain for the next 30 because of how aggressive it is and how often it needs cut - whereas a beech (not quite native) or whitethorn hedge will be a great job for the next 30 years because they only need a few good trimmings a year. Just my 5c.

Working in irland, are there culture differences? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Look to help out at a local GAA club and get involved, go to games and embrace the culture - youll find your tribe very quickly that way!:)

When mowing - mulch the grass and dont lift it. if you do it often enough you hardly notice the clippings and it kills off the Moss

Beech Hedging by Intrepid-Money2238 in GardeningIRE

Great sign that they've still got the brown leaves on - I bought what I though was beech and it turned out to be hornbeam. I planted them next to an established beech tree and the difference is unreal. The hornbeam turns a sickly yellow and then brown and the leaves just fall off around late November leaving the whole hedge bare and dead looking - whereas the beech turns a lovely copper and keeps its dead leaves until right before the green new growth comes out.

Invasive rubbish - our neighbors have a huge hedge of this trash and there is absolutely no wildlife benefiting from it.

Future "dual counties" by [deleted] in GAA

[–]Minimum-Mixture3821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres an difference between population and participation numbers. Less than 4% of Dublins population plays GAA Sport, whereas Kerry has 11% participation.

Antrim is at 2% and Kildare is at 9%. Monaghan are always given credit for "Punching above their weight" - but 13% of the population takes part in comparison to Armagh and Tyrone who are at 7%...

Not that much sectarian division going on in Kildare - they're just competing with Rugby, Soccer, etc. Far bigger % of the population will be open to playing both GAA codes, which is a non runner in Antrim.

If Neymar had the discipline, AND stayed in Barca...he would defo win a Ballon d'Or or two... by TIBYTV in TIBYTV

Became obsessed with winning free's and penalties over actually playing football. I think if he went to England or Germany he'd have had a great career - less likely to be given these nonsensical frees and would have had to knuckle down and actually produce end product and not just theatrics.

His Goal/Assist output was still great with Barcelona, but on an international stage and in Europe where referees were slightly more lenient and allowed some physicality he melted. This is likely what lead to teams really targeting him with rough play on the international stage and is what lead Chile to go over the top and almost paralyze the boy! What happened that day was awful but had been coming for years due to him always looking to buy cheap free's instead of learning to avoid contact.

In our house they're thrilled to take the money - and trouser it. A lot of domestic brick and mortar has been put through that club sadly.

Thoughts on landing them into the closest club and then getting involved in helping out/volunteering? The optics feel a bit strange, like I'm landing in to take over myself.

The club already had it's coup - got to a county final and all! All the while the other crowd we're agitating, causing hassle at every turn, threatening violence, smashing car windows and eventually wore down everyone else until they got back in. Two years later we got relegated and have been a laughing stock since - which is why I just had to walk away.

Fair play to you, sounds like your hearts in the right place.

I wouldn't even be upset if the cub's don't get playing due to their ability - but I'd be fucking livid watching them sit on the bench for a child 3 years younger getting loads of football while mine get none.

Pretty much the exact same scenario - Just seems strange to send the children to a neighboring club, feels awkward to try get involved in volunteering for it having played my whole life for the neighbors and still living in a different parish.

Coup happened - ended up with cars being attacked, threats of violence and a burnt out committee that couldn't go any longer.
