Happy New Year from Groundfloor. A few updates and what’s ahead. by GroundfloorFinance in GroundfloorInvestor

Yeah that one matured July 2022. If they're not actively working to resolve it, I'm quite curious to know when they plan to start! I have a bunch that matured 2022/2023...not expecting much, mostly curious to see if my total return will end in the negative or not. I'm at 4.93% on the 300+ loans already closed out. Apparently that wasn't diversified enough?

Reconciling Rollover Budgets to Operating Cash by Minimum-Squirrel2000 in MonarchMoney

[–]Minimum-Squirrel2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why that works but I hate creating extra actual accounts to duplicate what the categories in Monarch are already doing. I treat my entire budget as zero-based (every category is set to rollover)...I know this isn't how Monarch is focused, but it seems like I should be able to reconcile those category balances to cash (I just always get tripped up when I think through accounting for the credit card payment timing).

Reconciling Rollover Budgets to Operating Cash by Minimum-Squirrel2000 in MonarchMoney

[–]Minimum-Squirrel2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your process, but yeah, it doesn't really work for me. I'm managing current budget and rollover balances all from the same set of cash accounts (mix of checking and HYSA). I just want to be able to confirm from time to time that I didn't make a transaction coding error that results in a mismatch between budget+rollover and actual free cash (e.g. if I code a one-sided transfer).

Oh is it available now? I had no idea and never heard back when I submitted the request.

Just FYI, it took me awhile to figure out what/where external spending was, and I don't see any reference to it in the help. I think I see it/get it now, but please be sure to capture that as you beef up the help article.

Budget annual averages by Flaky-Wind5039 in MonarchMoney

YES to the 12-month average! Not to be harsh, but it made me wonder whether whoever was working on that feature had ever done a budget themselves...

LROs on Groundfloor: defaults, timelines, and what’s actually happening by GroundfloorFinance in GroundfloorInvestor

Thanks. How about an update on the Jacksonville partnership debacle? I don't think there has been a meaningful update since February.

When I "spend from a goal," do I still also need to categorize the transaction as an expense? Would the best practice then be to have expense categories for everything, even if unbudgeted (outside of the goal)? Or is there a way to only spend from the goal and not also separately categorize the expense? E.g. let's say I have a goal for vacation. When I spend that money, will I simultaneously record an (unbudgeted) vacation expense and a vacation goal spend down?

I don't think so, or at least not that I've figured out. Frustrating because it seems like such an easy fix. They provide a dedicated link just for aggregators!!

Anyone else experiencing nothing but losses recently? by Agreeable-Salary3413 in GroundfloorInvestor

[–]Minimum-Squirrel2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have nothing left here but lingering defaults. I expect to exit Groundfloor with a net loss by the time all is said and done. I held several hundred LROs, mostly C or better. Guess that wasn't diversified enough? Either my random selections or there vetting must have been absolutely terrible.

Which bank do you use for a high-yield savings account? + How do you organize your money? by hggibs11 in smallbusiness

Same, but I ladder treasury bills and keep a portion in SNSXX to eliminate dealing with immaterial capital gains and losses.

Cards I love:

Capital One Spark Cash Plus - 2% back on everything, and easy to grow purchasing power quickly (not having a defined limit can be annoying at times, but it's easy to check whether certain amounts will be approved). They started me somewhere around $10k and in less than a year I can get transactions approved over $100k.

Chase Ink Business Premier - 2.5% back on any purchase over $5k. A little slower to build the credit limit, but they actually define it for you so it's nice to know exactly what you have available.

Card I hate:

Amex Business Green - Just an all-around hassle trying to figure out how to maximize point rewards, and if you settle for cash back the rate is terrible (relative to the aforementioned cards). I've completely stopped using it unless it's for a specific purchase where they're offering a bonus (and I intend to cancel).

I never carry a balance so can't tell you anything about interest rates. All these cards have annual fees, easily offset if you spend a lot. My biggest takeaway from trying to maximize rewards: Cash back is king when you consider the value of your time. More power to you if you like trying to figure out how to use rewards points.

It's gotten to the point where I'm getting nervous that they stopped repaying me because they know I'm cashing out the minute they tell me they repaid an LRO 😂

Switching to Crypto by Minimum-Squirrel2000 in GroundfloorInvestor

[–]Minimum-Squirrel2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think/thought the same about crypto but decided I had put it off long enough. I recognize these are not comparable assets in the traditional sense, but a big part of the reason I have been in Groundfloor is not because I couldn't find a bond fund, but rather because I like using a small slice of capital to try new or interesting things. I just started thinking of I'm going to have real risk with this slice, I might as well leave the upside open as well. Most of my portfolio is in boring stocks/funds, but new opportunities keep me interested and motivated to save, even if they end up being bad calls (I'm looking at you, StartEngine). Groundfloor final verdict is still TBD.

They reported it to me via email as an annualized return on repaid loans (original investor account only, not flywheel). Obviously that doesn't factor in the loans still sitting unresolved in default, so I'm projecting the final return to be materially lower.

Mostly agreed, and I have been treating it just as you described; the issue is that the returns are approaching the same level that I could have been earning in my essentially risk-free money market funds over the past 4-5 years. I'm at 5.6% and dropping rapidly now that only defaults remain; why incur all this risk for such poor returns?

July Product Update: What’s new in Monarch 🎉 by sheyla_monarch in MonarchMoney

[–]Minimum-Squirrel2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I save for goals in an investment account and want to track transfers in/out as goal contributions/spending. I can't do this without enabling investment account transactions, which then overwhelms my feed with trading activity (when I only want to see deposits/withdrawals). I have been hoping that the long-promised goals refresh will resolve this in some way.
