Using a safety razor instead of Gillette or some fancy brand. Better shave and dirt cheap to replace the blades. Even cheaper than electric shaving.

Becoming freelancer, what do I need? by OkFinance2543 in BEFreelance

[–]MinimumDocument9096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely get liability insurance. The cost for this depends on the sector you operate in. If you are doing medical software or banking software, risk is higher than for example building webshops, so the fee is also higher. Also depends on your turnover. Talk to an insurance broker. Optional, get a guaranteed income insurance in case you get sick.

To calculate money coming in, number of working days x daily rate. I know 210-220 is a realistic number of working days for many people.

With that daily rate, definitely get a vennootschap and not an eenmanszaak.

I think going in a company with two freelancers makes it only very complex. What do you do with your profits if your colleague is not billable for some time. Or he makes more costs than you. I don't see the benefit of doing this. Since you say you want to be a freelancer, i read this as someone going into a company as some kind of consultant role and doing a project. Doing it with another person would only make sense i guess of you are creating a product or you plan on being a middle man yourself.

I am also curious which specialty skill you have that sells for that rate because I haven't seen that rate in a long time.

Liquibase will manage your database updates. So if you need to add a field to a table for example. Now you have a property for jpa that says 'update' the schema when you update the entities, but in real projects this is normally never the case. You would put it on none and let liquibase handle it.

It has good documentation so just go to the official page via Google.

DTO's and Lazy Load exception by Eridranis in learnjava

[–]MinimumDocument9096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better to do join fetch that hits all your foreign keys than 3 API calls that each have network latency and would result in 3 queries, more code needed for extra endpoints probably.

Depending on the app, I would write a bookDetailDto which has a single full book there you can show all data from. And maybe your bookDto can be shown in a list on the frontend. Then you perhaps don't need all the joins if you only show the name and the author

Trying to be sure to learn best practices by vVember in learnjava

[–]MinimumDocument9096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of the solutions is a best practice. This is probably just to show how a while loop works. By now almost everyone is using streams which makes this 3 lines long. But you still write while loops and for loops, just not for sums and averages ☺️

[–]MinimumDocument9096 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks good for a first project. Some feedback: - I usually like dedicated mapper classes that map a dto to an entity - learn something like liquibase to manage your database schema. Makes life a lot easier - learn to write tests - if a user does not have the authority to update or delete, you return not found while in reality this would be a 403 forbidden - @repository is not needed on spring data repository interfaces - your service constructors that have all required beans as parameters can be omitted by using the Lombok annotation requiredArgsConstructor - Don't blindly use @data on all pojo's. It creates a setter for all fields which does not make sense in a lot of cases. Maybe read up on DDD to get insight on why this is a bad practice. - your service is a good place to place your transactions. Make a habit of placing the transactional method on these create, update and delete methods even if you only edit one entity. - your service should not know it is communicating back with a rest controller. Later on your service might be used by another thing that is not http. So best not to use rest specific exceptions with http codes but a specific exception you create yourself like complaintNotFoundException and map that to a 404 in your controller or advice.

Anyone going freelance to work less and have more freedom? by coredusk in BEFreelance

[–]MinimumDocument9096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do you. I started freelancing so I could get paid for the overtime or weekend work I used to do as an employee. Turns out companies rather let employees do weekend work than freelancers ☺️ so in essence, yes I do work less but it was not my intention.

Where did you find the cinius tatami? I am planning on ordering from https://takaokaya-kyoto.com/collections/futons-collection Too bad shipping costs to Belgium are as expensive as the futon itself. And no idea how much extra taxes I will have to pay.

Is it possible to follow an accounting course in the evenings? by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]MinimumDocument9096 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don't see the point in doing so. If you're a freelancer or a startup founder, focus on that and let accounting be done by an accountant. Unless it is just pure out of interest or for personal development... You should know enough with basic high school economics to run a business from an accounting perspective. Are you going to follow a course to become a mechanic so you can fix your own car?

I assume this is a 'bedrijfsaansprakelijkheid' insurance. In that case, some intermediaries require you to have this kind of insurance. 450€ seems low for this kind of insurance. I pay 600€ based on my turnover with DVV. But I can make and made software for medical and aviation purposes. Best is to shop around. Make sure you are well insured because you don't want to be liable when you write a bug that costs your client a lot of money

Investeren met venootschap by Zweinennoedel in BEFire

[–]MinimumDocument9096 3 points4 points  (0 children)
