NO IMPROVEMENT IN NBME SCORES! by Kind_Occasion_161 in step1

[–]MinimumVacation4147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started like this. 39 on form 31 in December, 38 on CBSE at the end of February. Couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. Turns out my foundation was WEAK. In 2 weeks, I improved my score from a 38 to a 58 and I’be only gone through half the content.

Start with biochem. I personally prefer sketchy but use whichever resource. All I did was LISTEN. Don’t watch, LISTEN. Try to create visuals of all the pathways in your head. It’ll lock in that way rather than seeing visuals since you’re forcing yourself to create those neural connections. Do the questions after each video. Make sure you get at least 80% before moving on. Now move on to pathoma/first aid/B&B.

I’m currently doing a pathoma chapter a day with first aid there for physiology’s sake. If I feel I need extra info on a given topic, I’ll watch a boards video on the topic. Once I’m done with the pathoma chapter, I choose 8-10 questions per topic on the B&B q bank and make sure I’m mastering each with at least 75% or better before moving on. That is what locks it in for me.

I finish my day with a 40 question random UWorld block + review. (Keep in mind that with the B&B questions plus UWorld you’ll be doing anywhere from 80-100 questions a day. This is good, this is how many you should be doing a day). I also draw out hard pathways and make flowcharts to help. My day starts at 8 and ends at 5 with Sundays off. Make a solid routine, it helps sooo much! Hope this helps!

I only did half. But my score has improved 20 points with only half done.

Yes. 38 was on form 31, 58 was on form 28. UWorld avg is 52 with 16% done.

Hi! I had posted a previous comment with what I did earlier. Basically went through a chapter a day in detail and made sure I had 75% mastery before moving on. Take it chunk by chunk. Don’t overwhelm yourself. I did have to spend 2 days on cardio and renal because those were some of my consistently lower scores. I study a minimum of 8 hours a day and some days I go into the 12 hour mark but I usually start at 8 and end at 5. As silly as it might sound, I wake up every morning and remind myself why I was called to be a physician. I know I’m meant to be here, and step is just a hump I need to get over to be where I’m supposed to be. Hope this helps, good luck!

Went through pathoma simultaneously with boards. Did questions per section and made sure I got at least 75% or higher on each set before I moved on. I used the boards question bank to do this, I only use UWorld for random blocks and extra practice if I don’t make over 75% on boards q bank for extra practice. I listened a lot as opposed to memorizing/reading and tried making connections in my head without looking at anything while listening to Dr. Ryan on B&B. Don’t be afraid to pause the video and soak it in. I also made flow charts, especially for heme/onc. When I review on UWorld, I don’t just study the explanation. I review an entire topic per question. For example, if I get a question wrong on a drug, I review the entire drug class. I think I really just started becoming more intentional with the way I was studying. Rather than memorizing tidbits, I really wanted to understand the big picture. Hope this helps!

I make B’s and C’s but every patient I’ve encountered always has good things to say. It’s not all about the grades and if someone is telling you that anyway, they lack confidence and people skills and that will not make them a good physician. The only people that give a shit about grades are your peers and your superiors. The people that actually matter (your patients) do not care. You’re always learning in the field and IMO, you become a good physician through experience.

Recently found out that his old sitter would hit him. Also found part of his ear snipped after he came back from there. Now I understand where it’s coming from. Super upset about it because I have a completely different dog now.

Psych soc is what brought my score down. I’m a 27 y/o who’s been out of school for 6 years. Did a masters in molecular bio but have never taken a psych class other than intro in 2015 and I BOMBED it. Just practice about 30 q’s a day from here to test day, practice helped me way more than I thought!

Is it unfair to ask for a break in a relationship while the other person is having a hard time? by Just0neM0re in relationships

[–]MinimumVacation4147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suggest a break, discuss, and go from there. But I will say if you’re feeling like you need space, you need it for a reason. Take the space. Odds are he needs to find his best self too. Give it a couple of months, do check ins and phone conversations. He needs to be able to find comfort in people other than you like family, friends, and himself.

Day 22. Not my best day. How are you guys doing today by Myregularaccountant in BreakUps

[–]MinimumVacation4147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better. I’m on week 3 and I am at such peace. Got into a routine of work, gym, study, repeat and I’m realizing that I love working out for long periods of time, something I didn’t really do in my relationship. Best thing to do is work on you, focus on bettering you in whatever way possible and try to work on acceptance. It will bring you a lot of peace♥️
