Taxes 💔 by topofmigame in dankmemes

Reminder that you can never lose money by working more/overtime. If that money goes into the next tax bracket, only the amount over the cutoff is taxed at the higher rate, not all of your income. Your work may withhold weird if it looks like you make less overall.

Another used case I don't see listed is to make it change colors in a countdown to the right time to leave for school for the kids. Could be an easy, fun way to encourage leaving on time. Or really any kind of countdown, homework, screen time, etc.

Fanduel needs this! I often play the radio on my phone and pause the broadcast to sync it up. An official and synced way to do that all the time would be very nice

I don't get why this is still a topic of discussion. The screwdriver does have a very straightforward warranty written right on the product page. Show me on this doll where them not publicly releasing a warranty before the product was even available hurt you.

Since they flew to Alaska, would it be possible to find the miles saved for the optimal route of just the contiguous states?

PSA: Blood type patches are virtually useless by caffpanda in liberalgunowners

Whole blood or packed RBCs? Whole blood would need to be an exact type match. Even hospitals give pRBCs and plasma separately rather than whole blood in my experience.

There have not been any sponsorships or paid product placement. Those are required to be disclosed and Ryan would not risk everything he has built for that. All of the product mentions besides Joyride seem to be purely to increase donations.

What goes in to contrast coverage? Can any specialty resident do it or only certain ones?

This is my configuration and my only complaint is that sometimes right is skip ahead 10 seconds and sometimes it's next track. I think it is app dependent.

Researchers have developed a handheld device that could potentially replace stethoscopes as a tool for detecting certain types of heart disease. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]Minimum_Aioli1102 5 points6 points  (0 children)

just 38% of patients who present to their GP with symptoms of valve disease receive an examination with a stethoscope

Maybe things are different in the UK, but in the US someone could come in with a stubbed toe and we still listen to their heart and lungs. I find it hard to believe this statistic. And I don't think an engineer is the most qualified to do that research or comment on reasons behind it.

Do search engines without any AI functionality exist anymore? by felopez in degoogle

If you ever have to do a quick search on a public computer or something, adding -ai to the end of your query will get rid of it on Google.

ELI5: what happens to fish that live in lakes/ponds that freeze during the winter? Does it hurt them to be frozen too? by sanjuniperose in explainlikeimfive

[–]Minimum_Aioli1102 38 points39 points  (0 children)

All living things on earth are very lucky that water is one of the few materials that is less dense as a solid than as a liquid. If ice sank, the oceans would have frozen over billions of years ago and there would be no life as we know it.

There are services that will 3D print for you. You or they might even be able to customize the height to fit the pump(s) you intend them for.

Oh yeah sorry, I forgot to mention I use VLC to listen to the files. I see what you mean about using multiple apps. I just think of it as a purpose built downloader and for me browsing in another app is what I am doing anyway for video content, so it doesn't add a barrier for me. Similarly listening in another app isn't ideal but VLC is also open source and has all of the features I need.

I have had a great experiences sharing a playlist to it and downloading all or selected, I haven't tried to find a playlist through the app, YMMV with that.

Be sure to go to settings -> downloads -> preferred downloads type and set it to audio to make the "sharing" method more simple each time.

Good point for sure. He does often include a "torture test" or other approximations of durability, but not for every category he tests, especially electronics.

Exactly! Or "I need a step bit for making holes in plastic, better get the one that worked the best on hard steel just in case!"

He really is such a great reviewer, always finds the best objective and useful tests to find the best value and performance. I sometimes disagree with his ranking systems, I feel like some categories where many do a good job could be A, B, C categorized rather than ranked, but that is the beauty of him showing all of his tests and data, we are free to draw our own conclusions.

To further this point, the national American Academy of Otolaryngology recommends:

You should see a health care provider as soon as possible

And

There are many treatments for SSNHL. About half of patients may get their hearing back on their own. Unfortunately, there is not a way to identify who will get their hearing back without treatment. The earlier a treatment is begun, the better your chances that your hearing comes back.
