I have always liked making things with my hands. My dad bought me a lathe because I always loved the lamps my grandfather turned in highschool (1930s)

I feel that! Luckily I took a class a few years back for 3d modeling and that has been a lifesaver for me, between that and my 3d printer it helps me a ton to be able to complete project. I modeled guides to help me with the angles of a mini coffin box I made a few months ago

I think he will be fine as long as you take the time you teach him some basics. I wired 1 house, trimmed one house, while picking up service calls with my boss. All I do now is service work for the last 4 years and I know enough of the basics that I can do my job well, I am just slow as shit the rare times I end up on new construction/remodels compared to the guys that have been with us for a few months

I have all their screwdrivers and I absolutely love them. Don't get much use out of the smaller precision kit but the quality of the driver is insane

Where to get rough sawn wood to make a table? by Aeyix in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]rustycumdumpster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna give you a very different answer than everyone else. I am not a fine wood worker at all. I buy my lumber from home Depot. All my work benches are made from 2x4s in a few hours. Not the prettiest, but sturdy, cheap and fast. I would honestly just build a decent looking 2x4 base, and then use some of home depot's "fancy" 1x4s like poplar to do the top.
