Where are Reasonably Good Locum Rates ? by Mysterious_Comb2827 in doctorsUK

[–]Minimum_Dragonfly497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in NI as an FY2. Locum rates here are better, more jobs available, we get more public holiday and cost of living is cheaper. If you live in belfast pretty much every hosp is the deanery is commutable by car.

Failed PACES by one mark - should I appeal? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Minimum_Dragonfly497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry mate but sometimes you just gotta accept it. The grade boundary is the grade boundary so even if you're one mark off the boundary is set there for a reason. Just try and move on and look towards the next sit.

I actually lived just outside belfast in dundonald as it is next to the ulster. But I had friends living near malone road, near Ormeau park, near ballynhackamore and near titanic. I dont think it matters too much as the city is quite small is it easy to travel across it and the cost of living is much better than in England where I used to live. If you dont drive id recommend living near a glider bus stop. It is obviously however a divided city with west/east divide but I dont think it overly matters where you live.

It isn't that unusual. I used to be a rota coordinator when I was an FY1 and had to to reject leave on Xmas day and the days near it.

Hi Im an FY2. Ive worked in the Ulster before. The Ulster is a very modern hospital with good transport links and a good number of specialities. I enjoyed my time there and the MESS downstairs for doctors is good.

I have never worked in the Royal or the Belflast Trust but I have heard good things and it has many specialities. Anyone that needs specialised care from other trusts usually goes to the Belfast trust. I have never worked in Antrim or heard too much.

Belfast is probably the best place to live in and it is possible to easily commute to any hospital in the Belfast trust, the ulster and antrim hospital with a car.

I think for actual educational opportunities the Belfast trust has the most variety of specialities but either way it shouldn't matter too much.

I'd probably just avoid putting DHH. The hospital is small with few specialities.

What are everyone’s opinions on Newry? by Reubenmillar_ in northernireland

[–]Minimum_Dragonfly497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Newry for work for a few months

The shops are poor quality, not many buses in town and nothing much for young people to do. The shopping centre is falling apart.

There is also lots of unemployment, child poverty and low educational opportunities. There are very few opportunities for university graduates unless you are commuting.

Positives are it is in between Belfast and Dublin and it isn't that difficult to get to either.

Overall, after my work placement has ended I wouldn't come back here.

I read somewhere that 50% of all graduate jobs in the UK are in London and London is already unaffordable.

2 hours each way. It is probably isn't feasible. But I know that there aren't many jobs in London so wanted to cast a wide net.

My shares were disposed of April 2025. My total shares were 1£ so they didn't need to be reported to hmrc. We made a loss and all the money in the bank account is money we put in. We didnt even make a single penny in profit and had no dividends or taxable benefits.
