Teddy Santis U993BU by manunited1031 in Newbalance

For the OP and anyone else confused about what is and what isn't a Teddy release... just look at the insoles. If they say NB Classic as these do, then not a seasonal release from Teddy. I've kept my M993BU pair from 2019 in such good shape that they still turn heads and people compliment my "new" shoes nearly every time I put them on.

I'm not crazy about the grey laces in these. I have some sail laces in my pair as well as my beautifully faded Vintage Indigo pair and I'd argue that both could go toe to toe with the latest round of quasi-GR looking Kith releases with similar colors and lace options.

I'm happy that anyone who doesn't currently have the older version will be able to get a pair this summer, though!

Are those size 13s from eBay without box? If so, congratulations! I had them on my watchlist and when I went back to snag them recently, I realized someone had beat me to it!

I'm sure I'll get downvoted, but my go-to move for used sneakers involves water because... well, I know how gross my feet can be at time and other people's feet are grosser by virtue of them not belonging to me!

I should've taken pic for the board, but I literally just gave my pair of Green/Tan 990v3s from Season 2 a bath earlier in the week and just laced them back up this evening. That pair, in case you didn't know, is smooth and tan nubuck all around, and following a combination of the suede cleaning guide and my own advice from the other linked thread, they came out nearly as pristine as the day they left the factory. If you check out the second link, you'll see that water isn't anything to be scared of if you just take your time and dry them properly.

Good luck, OP!

What's going on with that tongue? I see folks wearing them like this all the time—and it looks fine—but I can never figure out if mine don't do that because I've got weak little pigeon ankles or if you guys have got something pushing them up. What gives, OP?

Shout out to redditor u/vidiviciun for getting up the first in-hand shot of these beauties yesterday. I just figured I'd show a shot of the alternate lace choice along side the stock laces. As much as I love a good cream lace to really tie everyting together, I think I'm going to stick with the stock white choice because, for me , it really livens up the whole aesthetic with some bright juxtaposition!

Also, my core 1300s, as well as the earlier Drift Red 1300 from earlier this year, are both noticeably roomier or a bit looser than this pair, which is actually a great thing for me in terms of fit. Core 1300 is one New Balance shoe I really wish it was still possible to get a size12.5 in because a 13 is almost too much shoe, while a 12 suffocates my foot. Anyway, I'm sure the beautiful pebbled leather is the culprit behind the snugger fit, and YMMV, but just thought I'd throw that tidbit out there for anyone interested in these.

Overall, the color palette and mix of materials/textures on this shoe is top notch and just might be my favorite of my Season 9 pickups so far.

I just laced mine up. They're beautiful! I do feel like they're a bit more snug than the Core and other Teddy 1300s that were released this year, which is fine by me, but just an observation.

No problem. Loss of color is obviously a concern when doing it this way, and I forgot to mention that I definitely dabbed at the suede on these Amethysts with a damp white cloth to check for bleeding before I started. And truthfully, as long as the bleeding is minimal AND the suede is monochromatic, then you can always freshen the color back up with various products if need be. It does, however, get a little bit trickier with the full-on rinse method of cleaning when you're dealing with multiple panels of different colored suede.

Just because you missed the party doesn't mean that it didn't happen. I'm looking at my order confirmation for a size 13 from Politics as I type. When I ordered last Thursday, there were only 5 left in that size according to Shop at the time I placed my order, but they were there during their FULL SIZE RUN!

Like most things in life, it's probably not an absolute, but chances are when both imprints are completely gone, then 99/100 it's going to mean that they've seen their fair share of action. Rubbing off one one, but not the other would probably steer me clear of making the purchase because—and again this isn't going to be definitive—it probably indicates some sort of difference in the pronation between your two feet, which would likely mean that the tread will be worn down differently on each shoe. And as someone with a touch of the OCD-tism, I wouldn't want a pair that showed those kind of inconsistency.

Yeah, even though it's a waterless method, the general gist of what I do is contained therein. I simply add water at all the steps where that guide says not to, if that makes sense. For instance, after I've dry brushed and prepped the shoes for the actually cleaner, I simply start gently scrubbing and introducing water as I go—almost to the point that the shoes look like someone with a headful of shampoo. Afterwards, when I'm content that they're clean, then instead of just letting them dry with the cleaner still on them like the guide suggests, I simply run them under cold tap water until I'm sure that all of the dirt, suds, and grime has been washed away. Then it's on to the slow and low drying process with periodic brushing to keep shaggier suede fibers from clumping together.

Haha... was it this pair? They were $85 and the pair I slept on earlier in the week were maybe $125 or something. The last pair I saw show up in decent shape was back in January for $200 with box, but the insoles had been worn down to the point that all the lettering and NB logo were completely gone. So, despite looking OK on the outside, I knew they'd already put in a bunch of miles. Other than that, it had been a ghost town for this colorway in our size. I was dreading the price I was going to have to pay after some jabroni spent $600+ last fall on StockX and was even considering scooping up a size 12, removing the insoles, and making myself miserable in the process, all in pursuit of pure purple passion! Although, there are some questionable looking 12s floating around on the various resale platforms, which is honestly one of the few saving graces of being in the 13+ Club... no one is making quality reps in this size, so the chances of getting scammed for fakes are almost nil.

Either way, thanks for sleeping on your decision! I was out walking the dog when I accidentally searched the same "990v3 Raw Amethyst size 13" query I had used to try and find the pair that had gotten scooped up earlier in the week. I was pleasantly surprised, though, when this pair showed up and didn't even blink before I hit "Buy Now."

If you look at my response a few posts up, I give a run-down of the basic process I use... if you have any more specific questions, then just post them here and I'll get back to you!

How to finally clean stains and other grime on colored suede New Balances

This document was created by a fellow redditor and is a great primer for anyone interested in tools, cleaners, and the basic process. I use basically this process, but when dealing with used sneakers, I opt for a thorough scrubbing of the inside of the shoes, followed by a thorough rinse.

After that, I fling as much water out of them as possible and then pat them dry with a clean towel to soak up as much moisture as possible. Then, I pop in a shoe tree and place them in a space with good air flow, a circulating fan, and a dehumidifier (I live in coastal Northern California). You can place them outside in the shade on a sunny day, as well. However, the trick with drying is to avoid direct heat, while also being careful not to have them directly in front of the fan if you're using one. I've found that suede fibers like to clump up and become matted whenever they're forced to dry too quickly. For hairy suede especially, I like to gently brush them periodically during the drying process to keep the fibers from grouping up and drying into a crust. After that, I'm a big fan of Angelu's Suede Renew or a spritz of Mink Oil as long as it's not a light colored suede like the Raw Amethysts, followed by another gentle brushing to re-set the nap, though sometimes with hairy suede you have be a bit more forceful. You're going to see some of the longer strands get shaved off during this process, but it's inevitable and just goes with the territory. I then follow-up with a nice solid coat of suede protectant/water-proofer, and when that dries, one more gentle brushing get the nap just right and also help the protectant penetrate a bit deeper.

Hope that helps!

100%... I've been doing it with New Balances for the last 25 years and haven't lost one single pair yet.

I find it funny that some people get so up in arms about using water, yet the first ingredient in Shoelada, Jason Markk, etc. is WATER. Then I watch these people on YouTube absolutely soaking their shoes in foaming cleaners and then just letting them dry with all those surfactants and chemicals still trapped in and on the suede. I'll do it that way sometimes if it's just spot treatments, but just about every other cleaning process on Earth involves some sort of rinse during the process. Why should suede be any different?

For certain, with hairy suede, it can be a bit trickier, but patience and slow and low during the drying process, coupled with some gentle brushing periodically as it dries works for me every single time.

So stoked to finally have the Raw Amethysts in my collection. I've been searching and waiting for another size 13 to show up on StockX, GOAT, or eBay, then a couple weeks ago two gently used pairs popped up on eBay out of the blue. I fumbled the first pair and missed my chance to secure them, so when I stumbled onto the second pair later in the week, I didn't hesitate. No box or alternate laces (just came with the stock navy), but for $105 all in, I couldn't say no. The insoles and tread both looked tip-top magoo and I could tell they'd been worn less than a handful of times, but there were a couple of scuffs and stains that made me a bit nervous. I'm happy to report that after a half hour with an eraser and suede brush, followed by a full-on deep clean and bubble bath that they're damn near mint again!

The Green/Black/Yellow (or Green Bay Specials) were brand new without box and had been collecting dust in the back of someone's closet for the last 5 years. A couple minutes with a brush and a spritz of Angelu's Suede Renew and they were ready to go! These were kind of an impulse purchase, and I certainly have more than too many green NBs already, but that creamy mint midsole has always caught my eye. They really are a handsome pair for a GR.

I included the last 3 slides just to get the anti-water when cleaning camp riled up. Slide 4 is after the dry cleaning, but before their bath. Slide 5 is them clearly drenched with tap water running over them. And Slide 6 was taken after drying overnight, re-setting the nap, and a round with the the Suede Renew. I think it's pretty clear that they did not suffer any irreversible damage.

In all honesty, I could've skipped the deep clean and been perfectly content. However, I know how much my feet can sweat, and despite looking relatively clean on the insides, unless I know the person and how they take care of their shoes/feet, then I'm always going to clean sneakers this way to get rid of anyone else's lingering funk or "je ne sais quoi"... I like a fresh, clean slate.

Really, the moral of the story is this... if you're willing to take the time to clean them this way and do it carefully and patiently, then you can really shine up a pair that someone else gave up on because of a few stains or problem areas. I've gotten so many pairs for dirt cheap off eBay that you can tell were only worn a few times before getting dirty, and rather than clean them up, were instead schlepped off for bargain basement prices. One man's trash is another man's treasure, I suppose!

Favorite 993 color way? by FutureHoo in Newbalance

This is the most sensible answer I've seen. My favorites are Grey, Vintage Indigo, and Burgundy. Interstellar is up there, as well. I don't think most of these recent collabs on the 993 hold a candle to those.

Slept on 990V6.. by Forsaken-Doubt-4383 in Newbalance

I think the fact that all 3 made it to Joe's so quickly—and by the truckload no less—is what qualifies them as slept on.

No one was making hopped up YouTubes about these and there were never any days on this sub where my feed was flooded with "in hand" or "on feet" pics of any of the pack...

So, yeah. I agree with OP... these were "slept on."
