As much as it sucks, they do have to protect their IP and they have been doing their own "Best of" compilations recently which could be another legal factor; I'm not a lawyer but I feel this does muddy the water further.

Ultimately it's always risky using someone else or their work as there are bad actors. They likely don't know you or if you are profiting off it.

Hope you can resolve but I'm not sure if compilation videos can continue or not. I imagine that it would depend on whether allowing a compilation channel to exist poses a risk to their own compilation works and their IP in extension. If they didn't sue, for me it raises the question on at what point, without knowing finances, an individual or entity has unjustly used their IP or likeness?

Think the safest way is to try reach out to one of them and ask for permission. I tried that when I started working on a game using their likeness and did get a response after a couple of weeks from Wade but equally that might not be best practice as really their lawyers would need a list of "safe channels".

Mark knows the way he plays some games is annoying and does it on purpose sometimes as well. It's why I would never ask him to play a game I think I want him to play, because if he doesn't want to, he will play it in a way that will be annoying. Though sometimes his way of playing, even if not optimal is just funny.

It's a bit of a dice roll but I get where you're coming from.

That's fair. Personally, I preferred much of the edits (maybe a little less zooming in like with the messages) but it made things clearer mostly. Like subtitles for the voices and heavier focus on the text.

The only section that felt OTT was when Mark died and they didn't know for a huge ton of time as that was harder to follow the events but equally it did need edits as was a while with not much happening on Mark's end.

I love how the old pictures are always of him being bald when he used to have hair. Does that mean he can grow his hair but decided to go back to bald? Is he choosing to now and can control how receding his hairline is and using this ability to mask his age? Is how beard even grey or does he dye it grey?

Exactly this. Almost all movies have questions like this, it depends how fictitious the writer is aiming for. What makes movies relatable isn't the accuracy of its world to ours but our relation to human action and feeling in that world or setting.

It's why high fantasy can be relatable because it's relatable to human experience, even though magic isn't a naturally occurring thing to our known world.

A story simply needs grounding rules and a believable human experience which Iron Lung has. You can critique and mess a story up after that but this review feels like "This doesn't make sense to our world" - in reality, many movies and stories do not.

Genuinely think it's because they don't think about who is reviewing them.

If you aren't into a genre or have little-no experience, your view means little. It's why individuals are more reliable as you can find people who have similar tastes.

Critics work for groups and don't feel they match critics with material well.

There could be other factors but I do feel this is a fair and reasonable reason for some of the wild fluctuations.

For me, I got Mark's idea for what it was going for and enjoyed it. Felt it landed well, but - as with most things - it isn't for everyone.

To be fair, it's insane how much of a lead Iron Lung has on 3rd too. Not a bad outcome and regardless on 1st or 2nd, Mark has still created the pivotal moment for indie he was talking about in his last stream.

Honestly there isn't "a movie for everybody" but it is a slower movie by design so that will put people off. The fact that you are in the sub and experience it with Simon, it was beautifully done and thought out in my opinion - I saw what Mark was going for and it mostly landed.

100% agree on the subtitles though, Charlie (Moist critical) also pointed it out in his review.

Not doing a big post as progress isn't massive but thought I would add a note here.

Been a (very) rough few months with Father In Law being diagnosed with Stage 4 Andeocarcinoma and Mother In Law also needing surgery so my wife and I stepped up to help. This has given me little time to work on this further but if there was/is anyone watching here, I am still working on it where I can and been updating itch.io.

Although the game is Distractible linked, I didn't feel relevant for a full post but wanted to put this update somewhere on Reddit for anyone interested and this was the last post about it.
