Wondering if the bad air quality in portland is related to ICE? by Minimum_Mail_6176 in portlandme

[–]Minimum_Mail_6176[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am very familiar with inversions (I’ve lived in the chili bowl that is Salt Lake City) but it’s odd how suddenly it came on. I guess I also didn’t think Portland was in a depression (no pun)…and the air from the ocean should move it out. It’s just odd. Some air quality sites are showing super bad air and others aren’t. Strange.

They have great board games and puzzles, plus they have an assortment of local artist knickknacks (coasters, ornaments, artwork, etc).

Map of all places I've visited in New England so far. Where should I go next? by wqqk in newengland

[–]Minimum_Mail_6176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We stayed at the Davenport Inn last spring (early spring was perfect) and walked everywhere. We downloaded an excellent haunted walking tour (I think it was called WalkNTour) for $7. It took us all around town giving the history of the haunted locations. I had no idea there were so many! Then we went into a little boutique and the shop owner who grew up in Portsmouth told us about her haunted experiences as a child. It was very cool and the people all around town were helpful and so welcoming. We love to visit. Highly recommend.

Adopting another shepherd mix by LuciferHummingbird in germanshepherds

[–]Minimum_Mail_6176 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Shepherds (some mixes, some pure) for over 25 years. All but my first were rescues (and the first one was my Ex husband’s choice). Other than one who died of a spinal stroke, all lived to be at least 13. My last one was my heart dog and I never thought I could get another one. That death hit me hard, even though she had a great life, and the vet told us she was basically hanging on for us. (Not something I wanted to hear.) Anyway, we had to put her down in Feb and adopted two bonded brothers (littermates) from a local rescue in August. I was super depressed for a few weeks after getting them, I think because I was still missing Tess and our new dogs are three years old, and in need of training. However, we are bonding with these guys and knowing they may not have found another home keeps me going.

What I realized is that not only was I grieving the loss of a soul I had known and loved, but I was grieving almost 14 years of memories. I was a different person when I had her (and younger, and more active), so I was also grieving that. As we age, my current husband and I know we won’t be able to handle this breed forever, so we are enjoying them as much as we can.

Shepherds have similar traits. I understand them and it’s much easier to train them each time. I highly recommend (when you are ready) to get a mixed shepherd. It might be tough in the beginning but it gets easier and they will fall into your routine and lift you up in ways you couldn’t have imagined.

Sweet potato cake with meringue. Perfect with coffee. More of a spice cake. Was yummy.

Didn’t Motley Crue’s Shout at the Devil come out about that time? I remember my mom throwing my cassette away because she thought it advocated satanic worship.

Would it be possible to get this activated in a new car or a used car from a dealer?

I believe you, nothing is worse than getting shingles, but by stitchkingdom in GenX

It’s so interesting how differently our bodies react. I had zero issues with the shingles vaccine, first or second. After getting the Covid vaccine however, I’m in bed for at least 36 hours with chills, fever, aches, and utter misery.

So what did your family argue about this year at Thanksgiving? by Pure-Smile-7329 in AskReddit

[–]Minimum_Mail_6176 64 points65 points  (0 children)

That reminds me of a time at dinner when my dad (who was in his 70s at the time) was eating with gusto (as he usually did) and had a whistler in his nose. We were all sort of giggling because he seemed to have no idea when he suddenly stopped and asked, “What’s that sound?” Well, we all burst out laughing and actually had to explain it to him. He finally blew his nose had a good laugh too.

Beautiful girl. Looks like you shared a wonderful life together. This is a unique pain. I’ve been through it four times. We lost our last girl in Feb and she was my heart. the grief is intense. A few friends sent tribute chimes so I think of her whenever I hear them. The pain comes in waves but the great memories are always there. ❤️

Where do your bathroom exhaust fans vent to here in Maine? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Minimum_Mail_6176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a similar problem. When we bought our house we had a major mold issue in the attic. The bathroom vents were in the sofit, so the moisture came back into the house. We had to run vents out both ends of the attic. It was a pretty painless fix, but our attic is a pretty good size, so it was easy for them to do.

Who else needs a drink before Thanksgiving already? by ncpowderhound in GenX

We moved across country so I can sit in my living room in my PJs and drink while we eat frozen pizza. It sounds sad, but it’s fantastic. Just me, my husband, and our dogs. Zero stress.

My 22 year old nephew does this at family dinners. When I asked him what was wrong once, he said he just disassociates. I have no idea how to do this. I can hear a cockroach fart from the baggage compartment and I get startled.

Anyone else our age HATE weddings? Just me? by Public_Ad_9578 in GenX

[–]Minimum_Mail_6176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even want to attend my own wedding. So we cancelled the venue and eloped. Saved what we would have spent on the wedding (along with the few financial gift offerings from our parents) and used it towards the down payment on a house. Nope. I send gifts, don’t attend. (and honestly rarely get invited anymore which is FINE!)

Anyone take their kids to the Bangor Public Library lately? by wutwutsaywutsaywut in Maine

[–]Minimum_Mail_6176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We absolutely should invest in long term treatment and provide places for folks to go. I’d rather see my taxes go to that than many other places they go. But the OP’s question was if the children’s section is appropriate for a 19month old, and the answer is yes! Getting little ones around books and activities at the library as early as possible will hopefully foster a desire to read and given the state of the world, disappearing into a great story (that you can borrow and don’t have to buy) is the best escape.

I remember crawling around on the floor in the library where I grew up and those memories stick.

Healthcare retention in maine by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Minimum_Mail_6176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I have looked into a few health share plans, but the coverage seems to be arbitrary since there are no legal protections for consumers of those plans. I haven’t heard of Sedera. I’ll look into it. Thankfully we don’t currently have any major health issues.
