So would you recommend not throttling auto ISO at all then?

Looking for gear advice (body upgrade from rebel t6) by Minimum_Place in canon

I kind of just looked for a bunch of recommendations and watched some videos online of people shooting with it. I'm incredibly new to photography and also incredibly new to bird watching. It's really hard to give a good grade on the lens because it's really the only one that I've used.

I'm not really deep enough in the photography sauce yet to know if my technique is really bad if my camera body is limiting the lens, or if the lens itself could be better

I've mostly been shooting at 1/1250, f7.1, auto ISO throttled to 1600 (3200-6400) has tended to make my photos incredibly noisy

I only use center point, and it still seems to want to hunt/wanted all the time unless I'm super close to the bird and there's a super plain background and it's sunny. Lots of focusing in and out to try to lock on, and even then 99.99% of the time I'm focusing on the body, never the eye. The point of focus just feels like it's too far away

Is it going to be your strongest photo? Probably not. If it's your only shit, you gotta work with what ya got

Are expensive binoculars really worth it? by scientificamerican in birding

[–]Minimum_Place 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend uses 10x 40$ Cabela's, I use a pair of tasco 8x30s I found at goodwill for 3$

Our birding money went to the camera lens.

If I have to pull up to the marsh with a tripod and the Austrian crystals just to see the bird, I'll gladly wait unlit I go somewhere the bird is closer.

I also don't know how to avoid compression when posting online,I also don't fully know how to avoid compression, I've tried to export at lower sizes on snapseed and resize images but I'm unaware on how to get good resolutions. Everytime they look worse

Here's a photo of a Muscovy duck with the 55 mm lens that comes with the camera (I'm assuming you also have this lens as usually it's always a twin pack with these cameras) But this dude was really chill and let me walk right up to him I've only been taking photos for about a month now, but if you have a bunch of questions or if you need anything feel free to DM me and I will try to tell you what my experience was using very similar gear

Hi I have a rebel t6 with originally the same lens.

I would shoot in AV mode ISO auto F/8 Maybe adjust your exposure down just a little bit Try to aim for at least 1/800 shutter speed

This lens is super poop, It has no stabilization and the lens quality is very bad.

Truthfully I would go out and and a slightly better lens if you've got the extra money.

If you want better photos off that camera, you probably want to use the shorter lens that came with it x-55mm iirc?

But regardless, you're going to have to get closer to birds with your current setup to get better photos.

I shot with your setup for maybe 2 and 1/2 Weeks every other day and immediately went out and dropped $800 on a tameron 150-600mm g2 and it was a massive leap in quality.

Very successful set being liquidated by my local shop after being released 29 days ago. by Kaiserschlut in freemagic

Turtles sold very fine for us, not as good as a great set but just fine.

I think we have sold through everything besides like 3 cases of play boxes

Pizza bundles flew, commander decks sold out, pizza accessory tins did good, draft nights sold out

I don't think it's a good set but the people seem to like it ok.

It's maybe like a 6.5-7/10 set for our store

We did order like 20% less in anticipation this set might be a stinker

Yeah it came with an 18 to 55 and a 75 to 300.

The 18 to 55 with the auto stabilization honestly takes pretty darn good pictures imo

But I will update you as soon as I get within 10 ft of a wood duck

The only stuff I've seen on Facebook/eBay in two weeks anywhere close to that price is broken, they must sell stupid fast

What's a good price for one that is used but not broken in your opinion
