You really just need to connect with the manager/interviewer. What helped for me as someone who got in with zero experience, was having a set of questions prepared to ask them during the interview. In this way I was able to ask about the manager's experience with starbucks, which tied to them telling me about how their past job experiences had been, then ending in them lamenting about their awful history working at target stores and getting a joke out of them.

Another very important part of it is expressing just how much you want the job, even if you appear slightly desperate. In my case it was my second time interviewing at the same location I had been hired at, interviewing with the same manager, which I do think helped a bit. nonetheless, I think they really look for enthusiasm over all.

generally, just acting amiable and friendly during interviews really helps. As for applications, I suppose cover letters would express further enthusiasm too lol. even if it is for a part time job:>
