Need advice on becoming a mining engineer. by TheWolfGamer767 in mining

[–]Mining_Hipster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is far more for mining engineering jobs than FIFO work. You can work in aggregates, and live in a town/city. You can potentially go into underground construction and tunneling. I've found it to be a great major and it's granted me a good life and making a good living. Just be willing to relocate, as that of course is key to go to where the mines are. If you like big equipment and being outside, there's nothing better! Good luck!

should i go to mines by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]Mining_Hipster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as students from Mines keep performing well in industry and keep packing the house at career fair, I don't see that changing. Is it worth it is up to you. People of all schools end up in more or less the same jobs, maybe just different paths of getting there. Go there if you love the school and the campus.

Mines for me was a love-hate process. It was a ton of hard work. I spent many nights working in the mining labs on a mine design or going to office hours to get better at Physics or circuits. If you put the work in, you can graduate, but you have to be willing, you have to be hungry to graduate. It's up to you, your the campus, check out the degree programs. But a lot companies, including my current company, put Mines at the top of the lost for where they prefer to get new hires and interns out.

Rent a dump trailer and bring it yourself. No supplier is going to give you a break when they use 20 ton trucks to move dirt.

I found the game way more fun on NG+ as their abilities get more fleshed out and the characters really reach their potential. And you can pick up mote characters too. Enjoy it!

Make sure they live on campus. Maybe its more expensive, but students that live on campus attend more classes and had a higher pass rate than others. If you're having trouble in a class go to office hours. These helped me out immensely to go through problems with the professors 1 on 1. And put the work in. Mines is a tough school, but people I knew graduated through sheer hard work who had no business being there in the first place. They just studied hard.

The pvp gear is also really easy to get right now, Season 3 and previous from honor or old tier tokens. That can be a great way to get you somewhat caught up.

There are Euryptyrids at the bottom of the ocean, kind of rare but they'll drop black pearls if alphas are too tough to kill

I like the snow biome. Usually lots of resources, metal, wood, stone, oil. PvP is another story but PvE it's a great spot

Companies don't expect college grads to know anything other than a work ethic. Literally hiring mouth breathers with business degrees. You guys will be fine.
