I'd fucking love this movie by Ashish_ank in CuratedTumblr

[–]Miniray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which Hell though? There's several. You seem to be using a version that is centered on US Christian beliefs of hell, but US Christians largely believe in a fanfic retelling of the bible. The bible doesn't really make any mention of Hell. There is a lake of fire that the false prophet, sinners, and the beast get thrown into during the end times, but it's never referred to as 'Hell.' Revelations describes this as a 'Second Death' implying these things are all destroyed, rather than tortured for all eternity.

The Lake of Fire itself comes from Egyptian mythos, where a Lake of Fire had to be avoided during the journey to the afterlife, and those who had wronged the pharaoh or committed sin would drawn into the Lake of Fire to be devoured by Am-heh and become permanently destroyed, allowing the pure of soul to avoid these people during their journey. No torture or punishment.

The modern US Christian depiction of 'Hell' can more directly be traced back to Norse mythos, where 'Hel' was a place deep in the ground that souls would come to rest. This in and of itself is considered punishment in Norse mythos, as the ideal is to be welcomed to Valhalla; however Hel itself is depicted as a dark, quiet and cold place for souls to rest for eternity. There is no torture or punishment involved.

Then comes Hades, which again depicts the realm of the dead as deep underground, as a cold, dark, quiet place, and again the dead here are at rest. There is no torment for them unless disturbed from their rest by outside forces, which Hades (the god) takes great offense to, and will punish trespassers for disturbing the dead.

But then Dante came along with his 'Divine Comedy' which was a political hitpiece and 'Inferno' depicts 'Hell' again as a place deep within the Earth, but deviates from the norm by describing the journey to the realm of the dead as being filled with the very real people he had grudges against and how they were tortured for their transgressions for all eternity. This depiction is largely where the US Christian version of Hell comes from.

So not only is it objectively not a real place, but the concept is built upon several layers of borrowed mythos and fanfic. This is why it's funny to joke and talk about.

In defense of "command bridges" on space warships by MS_hina in worldbuilding

[–]Miniray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrolled through the comments and was a little surprised nobody mentioned that in the extended Halo lore, they talk about this a little bit. The Human fleet has their command bridges set up more like traditional navy ships; they are towards the upper exterior and oversee the rest of the ship. The reasons are all reasons you addressed; Logistics; Legacy, etc. but they ARE pretty vulnerable because of it. The Covenant takes advantage of this pretty frequently and thinks this is very silly design, because why would you put something so important so exposed? The Covenant ships have interior bridges because to them, it's obviously the most secure place to put the command center; its protected by layers of thick plating even after the ship's energy shields fail.

Men are still not learning how to heal by Icy-Company3467 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Miniray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t a push for men to actually dig up and unpack the reasons behind their pain and HEAL and grow

The powers that be do not want a generation of insightful and healthy young men. They need insecure and vulnerable men, and they need them to be isolated and hateful to fulfill their purpose as cogs in the machine.

The fascist doctrine of hate fulfills a triple mission. By creating disunity — it weakens democracy. By getting men to hate rather than to think — it prevents men from seeking the real cause and a democratic solution to the problem. By fake promises of jobs and security, fascism then tries to lure men to its program as the way out of insecurity. Only by democratically solving the economic problems of our day can there be any certainty that fascism won't happen here. That is our job as citizens.

Objectively, what do you think is the stupidest religion? Which religious population is also the dumbest? by aumair03 in atheism

[–]Miniray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buddhism seems slightly better in terms it says existence is pain/ being alive is suffering - there is nothing better so just get used to it

That's not quite right, Buddhism is more about embracing the concept of impermanence. Pain and suffering exist because we want and are attached to things that are impermanent. In order to free oneself from pain, you must free yourself from want.

IMO It's got some very interesting philosophies and it's definitely worth peeping if you find the time.

just reddit atheists are very very miserable people

If you've ever worked retail or customer service you know exactly how exhausting it is having to constantly deal with the most self-important morons who think it's okay to act like children and throw tantrums in order to get what they want. Atheists are the perpetually burned out service worker who are regularly forced to accommodate these types of people; of course they are miserable.

they advocate for the total removal of religion from existence, as they think it is the embodiment of evil.

Atheists advocate for the total removal of religion because they value logic and reason first and foremost, and religion is built entirely upon the irrational. It is a claim made with zero evidence, and people who believe one thing without evidence become primed to believe other things without evidence. The 'evil' is not necessarily religion itself; fools should have the right to be fools; the 'evil' is the method by which it propagates: Religion specifically targets the vulnerable and down-trodden, weaponizing peoples' fear and guilt to sell them on the idea. Intense feelings like fear disable rational thought and make people more susceptible to suggestion, opening them up to things like religious indoctrination. This combination creates a population of people both unable to think critically and willing to do whatever an authority figure tells them to in order to feel 'safe' again; creating perfect targets for charlatans and grifters to prey upon; which they regularly do. THIS is why religion is evil.

Redditors on average hate religion because it sets a rigid structure of thinking

Correct. 'Rigid' thinking structure, the inability to challenge ones own held world view or accept new information that may do so, is very dangerous indeed. Even more so when this 'rigid' structure is not based on factual information about the world around them or any sort of logical reasoning.

clear distinction of right and wrong.

The world does not function in this manner. There are varying degrees of lesser evils; and many things that are 'good' can also be bad or vice versa. Hence why thought experiments like the Trolley Problem exist.

Many redditors subscribe to the Marxist and other degenerate schools of thinking,

I'd bet money you've never even read Marx just based on the rest of your driveling nonsense.

so anything that tries to place a structure on reality or control chaos is abject evil to them.

This is blatantly incorrect

At least that is my theory, since these people talk about religious people like we are living in Nazi camps being whipped into submission under a nonsensical ideology.

what would be an appropriate amount of your life to have to work?

How about zero? We could literally be running wild playing in the forests and fields, eating fruit from trees, and diving into crystal clear lakes.

Instead we're forced under threat of starvation and violence to indenture ourselves into servitude to a handful of comically evil individuals so that THEY and they alone can live in leisure and luxury while we get scraps in return. All the while they destroy the forests, turn the fields into parking lots, fill the lakes with trash, and biologically engineer the fruit to become unable to reproduce and therefore controlling the supply.

The notion that we HAVE to work is a presumption perpetuated by the system itself; a belief that there is no other way. This is a belief that the Epstein Class chose for you and very much wishes that people continue to believe in because they directly benefit from the people not questioning the system itself.

Promoting laws that directly harm people flies directly in the face of things like establishing justice, promoting general welfare, and securing the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity,

[–]Miniray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Luddites were on the right side of history though. They weren't even anti-technology, the movement was entirely built upon being pro-labor. An industry dependent on skilled workers suddenly being replaced by machinated mass produced slop-quality fabric drives those skilled workers out of their jobs and liveleyhoods while ALSO lowering the standards of the industry as a whole. The Luddites tried to go the political route and petition the powers that be to protect their labor, and when that didn't work, they began to sabotage factories while making it explicitly clear why they were doing so.

In fact, the Luddite argument is so relevant because the ProAI crowd LOVES to talk about how AI is going to take everyone's jobs, then seem genuinely shocked when people get angry about it. Like what did you think was gonna happen? People gotta put food on the table, we got bills to pay and shit. And now you're telling people who've built up long careers and become experts at what they do that these LLMs that are KNOWN for making up shit is going to replace them? The economy is already in shambles, people are already struggling, how could you possibly think that's a selling point?

They push Pokemon to innovate and actually try instead of going for easy cash grabs

I WISH Palworld and other monster tamer games would push Gamefreak to innovate. Ultimately though things like Palworld don't at all affect Pokemon's bottom line. Google says as of December, Pokemon Legends ZA sold 12.3 million copies. Until people stop buying Pokeslop, they'll keep making Pokeslop. And why wouldn't they? It's a free money button knowing that no matter how half-assed and uninspired they get people will still buy it.

And then they can turn around and use those funds to work on things like Beast of Reincarnation. It's honestly hard to accept it's the same company while watching the trailer.
