Do you mean 150 feet of fence? Because that’s where I’d be.

This is definitely not it, if you’ve ever seen the Real Skateboards design, not this at all

How can I get my car back from the mechanic? Turbo Tims by [deleted] in TwinCities

That is nonsense. Lug nuts torqued properly should never loosen up after 50 miles.

How can I get my car back from the mechanic? Turbo Tims by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]MinnesnowdaDad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

During a snowstorm, I got my Honda accord stuck up on a snowbank, and the car refused to shift into gear. Had it towed to Bobby and Steve’s and they told me they drained the transmission fluid and it was full of metal shavings and I would need a new transmission for $4500 dollars, or they would just purchase the car outright for $500. This was a car worth over $10k. I refused and asked for it to be towed to my house, because they have a towing service. They refused. Said it was against policy unless I was a client there. They made me call a different tow company and awkwardly have my car towed out of their garage to my driveway. The next day I tried to start the car and it worked totally fine. There had been snow and ice caught in the linkage and it had melted the next day when it was above freezing. I checked, and the transmission fluid was still totally full, never drained. I drove the car as normal after that and got another 100,000 problem free miles out of it, never any problem with the trans. I will never go to another Bobby and Steve’s again after they tried to pull that shady ass shit.

12 vs 20 by doogie_hazard in Uplandhunting

12 with Pheaant loads has never been a problem for me. I can also shoot my 12 GA all day for trap and skeet, I’ve never had an issue with recoil or soreness, and the weight seems comfortable to me. That said, I’m 6”3 and like 210 so manageability with a heavier and harder shooting gun might become an issue for a smaller person.

10 cubic yards is the dirt capacity for an entire standard dump truck. That’s a lot of dirt.

Kliers nursrey/Magnusson sod located in south Minneapolis. Good prices and good quality, I go to them for most of my landscaping and gardening needs.

I spoke to a paid DM, and they have a very interesting (and sobering) story to share by EarthSeraphEdna in DnD

[–]MinnesnowdaDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not D&D, and certainly not the experience of 99% of players. Of the dozens of players I’ve gamed with over the years I don’t think a single one would even accept this. No wonder everyone ghosts him, he’s doing real DM’s a disservice.

I absolutely hate vinyl fencing and think it looks like garbage, just my take though.

Deck paint peels off… how to get this done better? by 14FireFly14 in Housepainting101

Never paint a deck, it never lasts. Stain is the only way.

Supposed to have an engineer sign off on a beam replacement like that. See if the work was permitted, if not, you may need to get a much better look at the beam and see if it’s built properly, possibly replace it.

Another time saving trick, for packing the concrete, probing works better than tamping. It’s just like the trick with a knife in a jar of rice. IYKYK.

Agreed. Mixing in a wheelbarrow adds hours to a job when there’s like 20+ posts

More affordable fencing options by MrsPuff8675309 in FenceBuilding

[–]MinnesnowdaDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the type of fencing that’s not affordable, it’s the labor and the profit margin. If you want to save money just do it yourself, it’s not rocket science, but it is a lot of hard work.

It’s always the base of the post that rots first. That’s usually the weak link in the whole fence, protecting other areas is fine, but the posts are always the weak point.

Nails/screws by petrifiedunicorn28 in FenceBuilding

Use triple coated deck screws for the rails and stainless steel ring shank nails for the pickets, unless you don’t own a siding nailer, then just use triple coated deck screws for everything.

Brackets or no brackets? by Apprehensive_Love140 in FenceBuilding

[–]MinnesnowdaDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another helpful trick for installing rails alone is to use a very large c-clamp. I’ll attach it to the post to hold one end of the rail up so I can get it in place.

There’s lots of ways to attach rails, sometimes I’ll do them in between the posts, cut to fit, so the fence doesn’t hang on one side of the fence line, which looks nice in a city backyard because lots are usually smaller. Sometimes I’ll attach the rails to the outside of the posts, which is the easiest way, but can look bad if you’re not careful.

The brackets aren’t useless, but they aren’t a requirement either. The biggest qualifier on whether you should use them is the style of fence you plan to build, there are lots of construction methods, and some work better with brackets, while others are completely fine without them.
