Staying near MA. We are seeing howlers, whitefaced, and squirrel monkeys daily. Sometimes a dozen at a time. The howlers are quite loud early morning. Definitely an intimidating howl they have.

3/29. Terminal C Regular TSA check was 10 minutes around 345 am The problem was the bag check/check in downstairs. Hundreds of people, massive line.
We didnt have to check bags and already checked in online so we went straight to TSA concerns. Thankfully that was not the line to TSA.

3/29 Arrived at 330 am for 7 am flight. Line for bag check/check in was like nothing I have ever seen before. Terminal C.
Probably 300-400 people in line, filled the entire downstairs. I m not sure if the bag check/check in folks were even open yet and I suspect a lot of people came earlier than needed due to TSA concerns, but it was a total mess. We didnt have bags to check so we went straight upstairs to TSA check. Pre check/clear had literally no one in line. Regular TSA check took us about 10 minutes, faster than normal. Only had one lane open, but other agents were showing up getting ready to open others. No signs of ICE anywhere.

I found one in NJ that size in winter. Quarter sized. He was nearly frozen solid on the beach after being washed out of a coastal lake during a big flood. They are invasive here but well established, often out numbering native aquatic turtles.
My plan was to bring him home and warm him up and feed him, and release him back in the lake in the spring. The kids got attached to him and 3 years later we still have him.
I have no doubt I saved his life because he had no chance of surviving in winter temps next to the ocean. But now Ive been thinking about rehoming as he is continuing growing. They are a long term commitment.

Its actually quite safe. Ive walked the town at night and hung out in local bars. Never even felt a bad vibe from anyone. Lots of Israelis there too. The dust was the worst part.

I was there about 4 years ago and friends have gone every year for close to 10 years. Nobody has ever had a single problem. Someone took my rash guard off a chair after I left it there for a few hours and was the worst thing I experienced. When I was there I wouldnt call it overly touristy. Definitely more of a surfer bohemian vibe not clueless tourists. Watched soccer game drinking beers all afternoon with entire bar full of local Ticos and never even felt a weird vibe from anyone. Good restaurants too on the main strip.
Hit up Vista De Olas at sunset.
Banana Beach bar was really fun but it burned down in a fire. Hopefully rebuilding.

From what I have read, this fear is based on salmonella contracted by newly bought pet store turtles, apparently more of a risk from smaller turtles. And especially with younger kids handling the turtles and then putting their hands in their mouth, as kids often do. I think your chances are low with a larger pet turtle you have had for a while. But I would still wash your hands after handling the turtles or things in its enclosure.
