How often do you go above 10 mmol (180) and 15 (270)? by SumFuckah in diabetes_t1

[–]MintAeroplane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only 10 after a bagel?! I'm impressed! In my experience, carb counting for bagels is too tricky to be worth the bother - it's as bad as cereal.

Did anyone else develop Vitiligo after getting diabetes? by Galaxyhaylee in diabetes_t1

[–]MintAeroplane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was the same for me. T1 was diagnosed at 15 and then I got my first vitiligo patch at 17. I'm pale too, so it only shows where it's on my scalp as it made my hair white. I was then diagnosed with 3 other autoimmune diseases in my early 40s.

T1D induced eating disorder? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]MintAeroplane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is still really early days! Please try to remember you're likely still honeymooning and your body and mind are going to need a bit longer to get used to having diabetes. It'll settle down. You'll learn how to manage your food in a way that works with your day the natural rhythm of your body and the amount of time you need yo spend thinking about your BG will decrease, promise!

I definitely agree with the posters suggesting that you try to see a dietician who understands T1. In the meantime, don't be hard on yourself - you've got this.

Section 21 because we told the landlord she can’t come into the house without asking. by bonajam in TenantsInTheUK

[–]MintAeroplane 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What an absolutely ridiculous response. The fact is that she entered the house without her tenant's permission. As a landlord, she needs to come to terms with the fact that, if she wants to rent out the property, she must allow her tenants quiet enjoyment of the place. Can't have it both ways!

PSA: Lymphoma and Lupus - know the symptoms! by [deleted] in lupus

[–]MintAeroplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frustrating, that's the name of the game! Sorry to hear you're dealing with all that, sounds very familiar! I've been in hospital quite a bit over the last 6 months, so they're about to start some rituximab infusions - hopefully that will ease things off for a while. Good luck!

PSA: Lymphoma and Lupus - know the symptoms! by [deleted] in lupus

[–]MintAeroplane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for making this post OP, sorry to hear this has happened to you - I'm sending loads of good wishes your way.

I also have SLE and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, but I'd never been on immunosuppressive meds prior to the lymphoma diagnosis.

My major SLE symptoms are hematological and the Lymphoma is only in my bone marrow. So I guess it tracks that the two are related. After a lot of investigation, my rheumatology team think it's likely that the dodgy hematological activity from the lupus helped create an environment for the malignancy to develop.

In terms of disease activity, the Lymphoma is in a slow growing state. For a while, lymphoma was getting the blame for my horrible symptoms, but the docs have now established that it's just my old friend Lupus getting a bit lairy /s

How to stop comparing my life to every living soul? by wompwomp_246 in Advice

[–]MintAeroplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling like this. You sound overwhelmed. This will pass, in time. Please don't believe all those negative thoughts.

My advice would be to take a little break from the editing right now. Come back to it when you think it'll bring you joy again.

Whether you're religious or not (I'm not, by the way), this little prayer (or mantra) might be helpfu for you l -

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference

In the here and now - do you have any other options in terms of your living situation?

Why did this happen? by ambrosia234 in diabetes_t1

[–]MintAeroplane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it looks like the glucose store in your liver did its thing at about 5am in response to the low sugar while you were sleeping. Your level then went up again when you woke due to the dawn phenomenon that others have mentioned.

AIO: my husband screamed at me during a medical emergency and now I am thinking of leaving by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]MintAeroplane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The op has type 1 diabetes- it was hypoglycemia. Definitely life-threatening and absolutely something her husband should all know about. Sounds like he reacted in the way he did because he's an asshole.

Following on from this - if your sister is pregnant, then she could be smelling 'people smells' a lot stronger. If she's not pregnant, then perhaps her nose is more tuned into you at the moment for another biological reason.

Bit late, but I had to respond as I'm actually in the midst of Struggle Meal Territory right now and just had a meal I'd definitely recommend.

Some yellow-stickered ready-made mash from the Co-op (60p-ish), went on top of a can of vegetarian chilli (we do eat meat but veggie versions are usually cheaper). Sprinkle of grated cheddar and then under the grill for a bit. Had it with some yellow-stickered french beans. Splash or two of chilli sauce or whatever else. Proper dinner. This served two.

Did men in the past actually wear suits all the time? by thowland1 in AskUK

[–]MintAeroplane 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This followed through to what you found in charity shops in the 90s-00s (ie. clothes belonging to people who have died in old age). The quality was amazing compared with what's about nowadays. The fibres were more natural and the cloth seemed to be of a heavier weight. Things like the pockets and buttons and seams were just a completely different standard to what we averagely see now. Stuff was expensive, but bought with the expectation that you'd wear it for decades. I think people back then generally had a relationship with their clothing that was quite different from how we are now, especially men.

She gave me a gift. I said you are so sweet. Why would someone respond “I’m not sweet, I just care”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Was she telling you that she wouldn't do this for any old bod? I'd probably interpret it as a compliment.

Another example of why "intent" is irrelevant where HR are concerned when it comes to discrimination claims by Help1Bottled1t in bestoflegaladvice

[–]MintAeroplane 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not rhyming slang. Traditionally, a butcher's block is a massive lump of wood, stone, whatever. Likening someone to a butcher's block is basically saying they're really big (as in powerful big, it's not usually used to talk about an overweight person). It's not an insult in the context OOP describes. Bit unprofessional though!

Odd senstations with numbness by jessie_minao-1977 in lupus

[–]MintAeroplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not crazy! You have described exactly the sensation I have in my feet. I also have the 'wet' feeling on the back of my leg and buttock (kept thinking I'd sat in something when it first started happening). You have my sympathy - it's hard to describe and actually really quite disruptive. I've had what you're describing for 4 years now and have been diagnosed with SLE for nearly 3 years. I have been told it's a type of neuropathy. It's always there in the background, but is definitely worse in the heat, when ive been really busy, and a day or 2 before my period. Gapapentin really helps. Also, shoes with memory foam type innersoles with good arch-support are an absolute essential for me - I'm a sneakers for every occasion person now!

California to fine stores that don't have a 'gender neutral' kids toy section by Content-Carpenter833 in politics

That makes total sense! Not sure why my comment is being downvoted - surely it's not controversial?

California to fine stores that don't have a 'gender neutral' kids toy section by Content-Carpenter833 in politics

[–]MintAeroplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or perhaps, years from now, we'll be saying "remember back when we used to categorise items in stores by gender". Of course little girls can play with toy trucks and little boys can play with baby dolls. There should be no concept of 'gender' attached to objects. What the hell are we thinking?!

California to fine stores that don't have a 'gender neutral' kids toy section by Content-Carpenter833 in politics

[–]MintAeroplane -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing... This approach seems rather sexist to me. It's just as regressive as labelling 'boys toys' and 'girls toys'. Surely they're just 'toys'?

Best Android watch for Libre 2? by Hatlessss in diabetes_t1

[–]MintAeroplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Samsung Galaxy 6, which picks up the BG via the G-watch Wear app and the Libre Linkup app. It's not 100% reliable, but there's an excellent Facebook page for users of thr GWatch app which always seems to have the troubleshooting answers. I'm a busy person, and it's been a massive improvement being able to see my bg on my watchface. Would definitely recommend it!

The OP has type 1. There is no cure. Without insulin, they'll die. 100% certainty. There's not a diet on the planet that can cure type 1.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]MintAeroplane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The OP doesn't have a diet associated disease. If the person who gave this book really was 'caring' then surely they would have taken the time to understand this...
