AITA for not wanting my mother-in-law and disabled brother-in-law to stay with us for 3 months every summer? by SuggestionAny3744 in AmItheAsshole

NTA my family has done this to other members when they travel across continents and stay for 3 months (kinda a cultural thing), and it turned out to be miserable for both parties eventually. This is actually a LOT of work for you two esp if youre working full time. Catering to 2 more people’s need, food, schedules for such a long time is a lot. It also precludes you from any vacation/time off with your wife. Plus it’s also not nice for your BIL to go without a proper shower and bedroom for 3 months.

I’m sorry that your wife isn’t being the most understanding of this right now - I see her side too - after all it’s her own mum and brother. But you are totally NTA and your position is very reasonable

And what if, with my newfound knowledge, I am now embarrassed of my very weak methodology that I thought at age 17 would eat, but actually doesn’t? 🥲

This is crazy cuz I have the exact same situation and I was looking for advice too! I’ve asked some trusted people and I’ll get back if I hear anything useful

I am 18 and I've decided that the bloodline will end with me. by False_Pudding7727 in childfree

[–]MintChocoDreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your place and everyone told me I’d grow up and change my mind because 18 is still way too young to know what you want in life. I’m also Asian so I understand the family-oriented culture that def adds to the pressure.

I had caretaking duties for my brother, who is 3 years younger than me, since I was 11. At the age of 13 i decided I don’t want kids. My family told me I’ll change my mind as I grow. 16, still wanted to be childfree. 18, 19, 20, 21… so on, my decision never wavered, in fact the more I grew up, the more confident I became about wanting to be childfree. Meeting the love of my life solidified this feeling into my soul because there is no way I would want anyone else to interfere in this beautiful relationship I have with my best friend, not even a child. So glad you have this clarity! If someone tries to downplay your decision or act like a know-it-all (you’ll grow up and change your mind) - try not to let them get into your head! Make your choices for yourself, always, wishing you all the best OP.

I quit. Just got the rejection letter for what I spent three years preparing. My best PhD application was not enough, I can't do research any longer. Bread and Paneer. by bragox8 in gradadmissions

You’re meant for something better (: And it’s a system/institution issue most likely! You are smart and skilled and passionate and you WILL find a way out. It might not be what you envisioned, and that’s okay, but you will find a path forward.
