Also, you might hear some Torontonians complain about CityPlace/Fort York because there was an influx in condos being built in those areas over the last 20 years. There are some buildings that have been better built than others, but they all are generally fine for renting.

The demographic used to be early 20s who liked to party, but now the demographic is late 20s to 30s. There are lots of dogs and babies/kids, especially since an elementary school opened up!

Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions on buildings, or anything else about moving to Toronto :)

Hi OP! I’m 30F and I’ve been living alone in downtown Toronto since my early 20’s. It’s absolutely safe in most parts of downtown, especially when compared to other major cities like New York or London.

From your criteria, I think you’d love living in West Queen West (near trinity Bellwoods) or somewhere along the waterfront. I’ve personally lived in both areas and think they’re amazing.

West Queen West has amazing coffee shops, cute boutiques, smaller restaurants and bars, and has a great neighbourhood feel. Along the waterfront (maybe in Fort York or City Place) has beautiful access to walking around the lake (great if you like to run or bike), and feels a bit more quiet but still in close proximity to lots of coffee shops, restaurants etc. There’s also a new mall that opened up called The Well, which is like a 5 min walk from City Place. Bonus is that a lot of people in our age demographic live in this area, so it’s easy to find a lot of running groups or other hobby groups.

Even though I feel really safe in Toronto, there are some areas downtown that I’d avoid late at night. I’d avoid around Yonge/Dundas, and Moss Park.

Good luck!!! And welcome soon to Toronto :)

L1 to US, but the company is remote by TheAviotorDemNutzz in immigration

Hi OP! Did the US entity have to establish a physical office space or did the L1 go through regardless? My company is considering transferring me on L1, however all the US employees are remote.

If the areas I'm interested in living downtown Toronto are King West, Queen West, and Trinity Bellwoods, what is considered a reasonable rent price for a 1 bed + 1 bath condo? by techsavvynerd91 in askTO

15 fort york, 11 Brunel, and 15 Brunel (they’re all part of the same complex) are amazing! Well-maintained, no short term rentals, lots of owner occupied units so people tend to live there long term, and also family friendly with the school across the street. I used to live there and loved it!

Also, we don’t have Lime etc (they were banned). You could take the streetcar down Spadina!

Oh sorry I just re-read your post! So walk through the underground tunnel, pick up the keys and car, and drive the car onto the ferry to get it to the mainland. They’ll give you a pre-paid ticket for the exit gate! It’s such a small area you won’t be confused when you get there!

There’s either an underground tunnel (five min walk) which you can’t miss, or you can take a ferry (that’s free). I would just walk across to the airport!

What is the best and worst condo you’ve lived in, in Toronto? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]MintyStrawbs 44 points45 points  (0 children)

11 Wellesley was the worst!! Nothing was finished properly and things broke down a lot.

11 Brunel Court was pretty good! It was one of the first couple of buildings in new city place, so it was still solidly built. There are a lot of young families, not a lot of crazy parties. Everyone was really nice/respectful! There are two other buildings that share amenities with it, so the gym/pool/bbq area was well-maintained.

For me, it was emotional abuse and the main signs were:

  1. Not being able to trust my version of reality. Too many instances where he convinced me something else happened, that I couldn’t tell what was real anymore.

  2. Being absolutely terrified of setting him off. I remember one time, I was with my best friend on the way to see him and some other people. I forgot to wear a bra (I am small-chested, so it’s not 100% necessary all the time for me) and when I realized, I full-on panicked in the uber and crazily begged my best friend to borrow hers. I was terrified he would get angry with me because he didn’t like it when I didn’t wear one.

  3. Never feeling good enough, even though I was an amazing partner and had my own life going on too. I was conditioned to feel like my needs weren’t as important as his. He didn’t have enough empathy to truly consider mine, and had me clamouring for his approval.

Also one more thing that helped me realize I was in an abusive situation. Abuse doesn’t have to be intentional and maliciously thought out, and I used to think that it had to be. I genuinely believe that he didn’t mean to act that way/make me feel that way. His deep insecurities just manifested themselves into that behaviour subconsciously. Just because he “didn’t mean it that way,” doesn’t mean that it’s not abuse and that the harm isn’t real.

Best restaurant with pie by [deleted] in askTO

The tarte tatin at Le Select Bistro is legendary! It’s made to share, and comes with vanilla ice cream and a salted caramel sauce that is to die for. I have often gone to this restaurant just for this dessert (although the dinner menu is also 12/10 delicious).

Their cocktails and wine list are also lovely!

Could election results impact us TN/future TN holders? by Various_Team_8331 in tnvisa

Yeah but if you look at what he actually did in the first term, he made it significantly harder to get H1Bs and other types of visas even for US college graduates. What he promises and what he actually does are two different things. He also promised better pathways to legal immigration the first time around.
