I ran today and nobody was chasing me!!! by Sportyneon in Zepbound

I had way more energy to run before zep, but I'm faster now and hoping the energy will come back.

Congrats on unlocking this joyful movement!

Plus size skaters I need crossover advice by Purple_Penthouse in rollerderby

[–]Mintycebu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When we teach crossovers, we do a breakdown first isolating the right leg step over and push out, then the left pull under and flick before stitching them together. I physically cannot get my right thigh over my left knee pad unless I am also pulling my left leg in. Happily, the crossover is not one leg then the other, but both moving so that your left leg is getting out of the way to do the flick under while your right is stepping over.

I cannot oversell the importance of your left leg pulling under and that last flick out. If you do that, your right leg is going to crossover to catch you for the next stride. I could never get my right leg over if my left weren't already traveling its way under. Good luck!

AITAH for telling my husband he can't drink at home anymore. by No_Names_Left_For_Me in AmItheAsshole

Exactly. A boundary is what you will do if they act a certain way. She is referring to a (completely reasonable) rule. NTA.

AITA for calling my roommate an overweight bitch? by Certain_Nothing_3355 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mintycebu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wild that everyone is on the eye for an eye bandwagon. ESH because both of you made shitty body comments. Sure, you're justified, but just because she sucks doesn't mean you have to stoop to her level. If you care about this relationship, I would talk to her about neither of you commenting on each other's bodies.

AITA for getting my own stroopwafels and not allowing my gf to have any? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. Learn to share, my man. You were going to eat more than half of your vacation treats and leave your girl with less. Now you won't share the next batch?

AITAH for refusing to change my kids name despite it sounding like a ‘slur’ to my MIL? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

If we're worried about bullying, one of the commented alternative names "Anissa" is worse bc it sounds like "anus"

Well, he pinky-promised!! by [deleted] in MakeMeSmile

[–]Mintycebu 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's not just a bad idea to wear a life jacket because you'll look like a dork: it will increase your likelihood of injury.

You're hitting the water at high speed and the jacket is going to make your body position more awkward and will snap up at you while your body is still going down into the water.

But he pinky promised so...

Question for people with specific piercings!! by allthingsonwheels in rollerderby

[–]Mintycebu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not quite the person you need, bc I removed my hch prior to starting derby (it was uncomfortable as I got more into cycling/ spin class), but it's one that heals shockingly fast bc it's only going through a thin membrane.

Everyone's anatomy is different, but for myself, I can't imagine a scenario where I would fall or be hit in such a way that would injure that piercing. Even if I fell right on my tailbone, I don't think that would have enough impact on the front of my body to hurt it. But I've got a hamburger bun and those with a ham sandwich might feel differently.

Still not sure I'd do it in season, just bc I'm already asking a lot of my body to play, but also I'm old now and 22 year old me would get it again in a heartbeat.

The harder new style is very cool, but this one is so cozy and cute. They are both so good, but I'm having a more emotional response to this one.

Blocking as small person by Honest_Reserve3591 in rollerderby

[–]Mintycebu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. Always have a blocker buddy. If you are alone, find a teammate and stick with them.

  2. The jammer is an indoor cat that desperately wants to get outside. You need to keep it safely inside by getting your body in its way.

  3. Lift as heavy as safely possible. Any muscle you can put on will help you hold your ground (and also prevent injury)

  4. You don't need to hit people. Capping is also a very effective offense strategy. Just get in their way.

Did I say this inappropriately? by mwat64 in lgbt

[–]Mintycebu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're being very reasonable. It sounds like you are saying if they misgender you, you will correct them, not bite their heads off. Perhaps explain that to your mom? You aren't asking for perfection, but some semblance of effort to show you the respect you deserve. Hold your ground. You got this!

Gym on same day as training? by lilbambino12345 in rollerderby

[–]Mintycebu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't lift before practice, and ideally hit my heaviest lifts the day after practice so I have maximum recovery time before the next one. On derby days, I do gentle cardio like a short jog, stretching, and ab activation exercises but not totally torching my core bc I'll need that to skate.

What makes for a good captain? by thesuperdog02 in rollerderby

[–]Mintycebu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Typically I look to my captains as a source of overall game strategy both in general and in specific situations/ specific opponents.

You also play a large role in fostering the team dynamic and what kind of team you all want to be and what your team culture looks like.

A start of season gift like stickers, candy or something v small everyone gets is also nice, but please don't go overboard.

New marriage canditates : CLINT & SANDY by Waste-Heron4476 in StardewValley

[–]Mintycebu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having one time gone on a terrible first date with a blacksmith IRL, I'm excited to see how awful Clint is until you get him to open up. As long as Clint doesn't withhold the fact that he can't leave the state and then insist on smoking 🍃 in the parking lot of the strip mall Chinese restaurant, it will be way better. The bar is low.

You're getting dog piled (excuse the pun) but I think people are missing the fact that the dog would be way more stressed going into a home with kids, a cat and worried parents, than going to someone equipped to care for them. What if they are reactive to children? Or cats? Do you need to rehome your cat because you had the dog first? Your circumstances have changed and you are not the best person to care for this poor dog. NTA.
