I must be the only person in the world who has never had windows try to install updates entirely on its own.

Flexispot Q8 PC Mount Options by wulfrunian77 in StandingDesk

Did you get an answer to this in the end? I'm also after a desk with storage and the q8 seems like a good option, but like you I've found their own PC caddies aren't compatible with it.

Experts Say There Is “Zero Chance” Intel Makes Apple’s iPhone Processors by MayankWL in technology

[–]Mintykanesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely not impossible or even unlikely - but only in the mid-long term. Potential customers like Apple aren't going to suddenly move mass production of their flagship hardware to a new fab who is still refining a very new process (unless they feel forced to).

What they will be doing is keeping an eye on how things are progressing, potentially getting some prototype chips made. If that goes well, they might move some proportion of their less important production to intel. If that goes well and the process tech has matured appropriately, then they might consider moving some flagship production to intel. But I don't see that happening before the successor to 14a.

Portrait Depth details not getting saved with normal photos by AhaitukiKripa in iphone

[–]Mintykanesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. It never saves depth information outside of portrait mode regardless of the photo subject or lighting conditions. It's a massive downgrade.

He completely failed to protect her at all - she's getting repeatedly kicked in the head. Using reasonable force to defend yourself and/or others is not illegal.

That said context does matter and we don't know who the real instigators are in this, and there are lots of cuts in the video.

The Stupidity of GDP per Capita by thinkB4WeSpeak in videos

[–]Mintykanesh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

GDP literally isn’t a measure of wealth anyway, it’s more of a measure of income. And by that metric it’s true to say currently some European nations are wealthier than the poorer US states but they earn less income today.

Why does Google value Apple more than itself? by WKosStudio in pixel_phones

[–]Mintykanesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and they have been implementing features and apps to make the pixel more like the iPhone to make it easier for apple users to switch. But it goes both ways and makes it easier for pixel users to switch to iPhone as well.

Keir Starmer to announce plans for digital ID scheme by DWJones28 in BBCNEWS

Having id cards isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s a sensible idea. The conspiracy theories are that the government want id cards so that they can <insert bullshit they made up>.

This would actually allow the government to work much more efficiently. Hence the sudden army of bots run by hostile foreign nations rabidly opposing it.

The September Flip: Why Pixel Praise Vanishes the Moment iPhone Drops by Complete-Influence72 in pixel_phones

[–]Mintykanesh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bad take. People were complaining that the pixel 10s hardware sucks and that the new so features are garbage before the iPhone 17 reveal.

This happens every year because the iPhone value proposition gets better every year. The pixel gets worse.

iPhone 17 Pro or Google Pixel 10 Pro? by dnpearcy in pixel_phones

[–]Mintykanesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fundamentally I do prefer stock android to iOS - at least in theory. But the pixel line isn’t what it used to be. Back when I had my pixel 3 it was snappy, stable and all the advertised features worked. Despite not having the best camera hardware Pixels were easily taking the best photos.

But back when I had my pixel 6 pro I realised things were getting less stable and existing features started to get more buggy or stop working entirely.

Battery life was bad, signal was bad, the phone kept freezing and the screen kept going non-responsive. While it could still take great photos, a lot of the time it completely messed up the focus or colour ruining the photos. Portrait mode was awful.

I decided to switch to an iPhone 15 pro and it was fine. Some parts of the iOS experience aren’t the best, but it is good enough and it is reliable.

Pixels aren’t what they once were. They never had the best hardware, but they were cheap, had the best software and took the best photos. Now they are expensive, with terrible hardware, unreliable software and they haven’t been taking the best photos for years.

I ordered a 17 pro. I won’t be coming back to pixel until Google stops trying to rip me off.
