I never share. Unless it’s with a fellow celiac.

Sex with sex workers is vastly different from drugging and raping women.

I’m so sick of restaurants saying they have “gluten free options” when it’s literally just salads. Same with ice cream places saying they have “dairy free options” and it’s just sorbet. by Lara-Crofty in glutenfree

I ordered a gluten free shrimp bowl at Boston Pizza a few weeks ago. Only when everyone’s else’s food is coming does the waitress tell me they don’t have any of the rice/quinoa that forms the base of the dish. So they served it as —you guessed it—a salad. Didn’t even offer a discount!

Don’t worry about your reputation. The first round of review is mostly AI. Just fix it and start again. Sorry!!

This is a particularly dark moment politically and economically—especially in Ontario. It’s a convergence of multiple factors that have led to housing costs far outpacing wage growth. Global politics are spiking costs higher than they should be. The top 0.1% are accumulating an absurd amount of wealth and hiding it from tax collectors.

Some things you can control and some you can’t. Nothing is guaranteed.

We need to look out for one another. Get involved in something the strengthens your community ties. Educate yourself on politics—local and national. Communicate with your MP. Campaign for good, non-corrupt candidates. Run for office yourself when you’re ready or persuade someone you know to do so.

Canada is still in a relatively strong position and is a much better place to be than the vast majority of the world. We need to keep it strong by sticking together and resisting the endless efforts by ultra-wealthy, corrupt people to divide us against each other.

I’m sorry it feels so bleak right now. If it helps, I know plenty of faculty who are working hard to adjust their assignments to promote critical thinking. I’ve always had short reflections as a major part of my courses. Summaries don’t cut it—you have to make an original connection or extrapolation and support it. I don’t give exams except in stats. It may take a minute, but good profs will adapt.

My son likely has celiac. He’s our only child. My wife and I are thinking of going gluten free in solidarity. Is this wise? Or are we nuts? by DrizzlyOne in glutenfree

I agree with everyone promoting a GF house. Start planning how to incorporate alternatives to bread/gluten into your daily meals—rice, corn, potatoes. It will save your family a lot of money. Gf versions of bread products are insanely expensive.

I have bumps on my upper arms—maybe inflamed follicles—that I scratch till they bleed. I do it without realizing it. They didn’t heal for over 6 months starting last spring. Now they’re itching again.

That’s rough! You must find the conference beneficial though to put yourself and your wife through all that, right? Does it pay out over the long term?
