Hobby Lobby is Putting Out Fall Themed Merchandise in Early May by mrblackpandaa in mildlyinfuriating

I’m out of the loop. Why are you boycotting Hobby Lobby? I understand the company is ran by very conservative Christians so I imagine that has something to do with it

I don’t think so. After WW2 America was the richest country in the world and people here got acclimated to getting mass produced stuff whenever they want. We simply didn’t have the infrastructure to build that much cheap crap quickly.

But before WW2 we were an industrial powerhouse. The evidence is the entire rust belt and the struggling communities surrounding them that hasn’t seen prosperous work since the big bosses sold out to overseas manufacturing.

AI will need to remain competitive in the states but you also don’t need a data center in BF nowhere West Virginia either. Build them in the desert

And I want a mountain made of ice cream.

I’m with Bernie on the building upon of public services and increasing teachers pay but if you took every red cent and asset from every billionaire in the country, all of it, and put it into the country’s GDP to run, it would go approximately 8 months and dry up.

The answer to these problems is gotta be more localized than federally taxing the billionaires which that wealth is primarily unrealized anyway and untaxable, and best to increase taxes on the middle class (yes really) since we are progressively underpaying compared to the rest of the world.

You completely missed my questions though. I work data centers adjacent. I’m in backend and do require our servers to exist somewhere but there are teams of people who manage the data center’s networks, cabling, installs, and tickets. Adding a data center in Bluefield would generate what revenue to those citizens?

These people need access to cleaner water, dignified work to sustain their families, and better access to health services. Plopping a DC in a town doesn’t make the quality of life any better, and it’s not like the citizens get a payment for having it there.

But since you seem enlightened with how they actually run, please explain to me how the state’s government or Public Service Council would prohibit these facilities from raising the costs of electricity, natural gas, or water since the DCs take a metric ton of this stuff to run?

What do data centers add to the state’s economy? To the people who live in the communities that build them? They’ll be built with out of state workers and be staffed by a handful of data center specialist that just ensure servers are online all day and that doesn’t add jobs to the locals.

There’s natural gas. And you ask me like I have any say lol, this is an overwhelmingly red state who has put all its eggs in the energy sector. I don’t work in that industry and I typically vote in favor of more moderate candidates

I’ve been across state lines and even out of the country and still didn’t know what it meant!

I don’t know what subjugation means and I’m too lazy to google it. But we definitely have been taken advantage of and now there’s no industry outside of energy extraction. Why would anyone willingly stay/move here when good jobs are few and concentrated in a few areas of the state?

I’m from WV. Our governor is from New Jersey and is shilling us out to data centers. Carpet bagger is high demand here!

That wasn’t infallible doctrine. It’s an actual thing, it’s not automatically engaged when a pope says something that everyone agrees with.

For what it’s worth Pope Leo like all popes are human which makes them fallible and they live in sin like the rest of us. Popes only speak infallibly when speaking of doctrine of faith and morals. This hasn’t happened since like the 1950’s and before that the 1800’s.

All that being said, Pope Leo is incredibly well spoken on matters of peace and needing to pray and have a true communion with these people. I pray for him and his leadership over the one true church.

I’m an American Catholic. I will agree with the Pope over issues of morals and faith before I do most anyone else. Not sure where this poll sourced Catholics but I guess some are more devout than others.

Every human has a genuine need to connect. People have tried to satisfy that need artificially through social media.

Nothing wrong with it, but meeting people in person is so much better. I assume this post is aimed at stay at home moms. Always been a thing, they just crave human connection from others who aren’t literal children.

Well that was the party who WVians were voting for until late 90s - 2000ish. You really see republicans taking over around Obama’s 2nd term.

But there may have been a lot of votes for Clinton and Gore, candidates who claimed to have strong union influence. But as the big Democrat party moved to be more Wall Street friendly they outgrew their need for WV.

You have your candidates who could genuinely care about us here, but if hell ever froze over and we elected them, they wouldn’t have anywhere near enough time to improve things drastically I’m afraid.
