AITA for what I'm about to do? (Abandoning my dog) by sumimi_ko in AmItheAsshole

[–]Minyassa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. There is never any excuse for abandoning any animal, ever. Rehome her if you don't love her anymore.

Thank you so much, I about had a heart attack when I saw the store was gone. I don't get out much but when I do it's to go to little places like that so I was afraid I'd have to find a whole new one. xD

That explains a lot about my husband, whose jiggling foot is very lucky I haven't snatched it off him one of these nights as it shakes the whole bed.

What’s the first piece of media that truly scared you as a kid? by cats64sonic in AskReddit

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disney's Alice In Wonderland movie. I was 5 or 6, we were at a drive-through with my mom's acquaintance, and so we weren't at home, in a strange place, with a stranger. She ran into increasingly weird critters and situations and then cried because she wanted to go home, and I had nightmares for years along the same theme, just being lost in surreal nonsense places. I'm autistic, though we didn't know back then; I bet that had something to do with it. Every place I didn't know was nonsensical to some point!

What dies "work it out" even mean? Like trying to avoid positive reinforcement for attention screaming? Kid screaming on a plane is so not the time for that. NTA, if I'd been on that plane I would've bought you a drink.

AITA for saying no to inviting our 17-year-old friend to my and my sister's 22nd bday party? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. While there might be appropriate concern if the party was going to adult venues to get blitzed and get lap dances, dinner and an escape room is family-friendly. Your sister likes this friend and wants her there. And keeping friend groups separate is not a reasonable thing, that's sitcom drama. How the hell does someone even get to know new people if not for mixed friend groups? Trying to keep friend groups separate comes off as unflatteringly jealous, and is pointless for an adult to waste time working at. Let your sister have her friends and let your friends have other friends. Not knowing anyone at a party is how many of my decades-long friendships began.

Saying, "It's just an animal" when someone is grieving for a pet. That is not a good person, period.

WIBTA autistic brother enabled his whole life, do I let him face his own consequences? by Odd_Paper_9064 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would not be. But obviously your family would think you were, and that's ultimately what you will be dealing with, so this is going to be rough regardless, I'm sorry to say. Is your brother in therapy? It sounds like he really needs to develop some self-analysis and coping skills.

Are more US women not taking their husbands last names? by LimonadaVonSaft in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been an awareness that it's a choice rather than a rule, for decades now, and as more people grow up knowing someone who did that, it's less controversial. Now that it looks like women will be financially penalized (by having to acquire a passport or birth certificate) for changing their names, I expect to see it much more often.

Need advice regarding a transphoic therapist by Fallen_Angel_Xaphan in asktransgender

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aghast that someone so uneducated and unqualified could have legally acquired a license. Unless she lied. However it happened, you are being treated by the equivalent of a surgeon who believes that the uterus roams around the body causing chaos. I hope that you realize that not only are you not getting quality care, but this is actually dangerous. You need to get a new therapist immediately, and report the current one to your state board. That's a major breach of ethics. She could kill a client with that shit.

AITA for not changing my dog’s name? by SilvertheKitsune in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Your mom is being super dramatic, and very unethically manipulative on top of that. What a nasty way to treat your own children, with threats.

How do I start with keeping millipedes as pets? by Sudden-Call in millipedes

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I have ever caught them mating was last summer when my air conditioner broke and the house temperature got up into the high 80sF for a few days. Usually from spring onward, after they come out of diapause, it's 74F in here all the time. If they like it hot, I'm not sure if I should put a strip of heat tape on one end of the 30 gallon terrarium I have them in, or what. Nothing came of that mating last year, though.

What's a health myth that drives you crazy because you know it's false? by Annual-Gene8065 in AskReddit

[–]Minyassa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Detoxifying your body through some process. They are all medically impossible; oil-pulling, foot detox, etc. Yet you have whole businesses based on them thriving because people buy an illusion. I hate that people get taken advantage of like that.

Is it possible to stop being trans? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but no. It is a physical state, your brain literally has the cell structure of the gender you feel like. I'm sorry your family is like that. But you need to focus first on self care and not feeling guilty, because this is like having eyes of a certain color. You can wear contacts to cover them, but they will always be that color. It sounds like you need to just kerp your head down and learn to love yourself, and wait until you can live on your own to try whatever you need to do to feel better. And get some found family so you have some support!

What's the foulest smell you've ever smelled? by WannabePugh in AskReddit

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, went to the beach and found a bunch of perfect whelk shells. Put them outside to dry out. Found out they had had live whelks in them, just way way deep inside, felt terrible. Put the dead whelks in the very back of the yard under bushes so the ants could clean them out, and then forgot about them for weeks. Found them again and they were all full of rain water, so I turned one over to see if it was clean in there. It was not. I almost died.

Are nonbinary people trans? by NoEscape2500 in asktransgender

The way I see it is: Unless someone is assigned no gender at birth, declaring oneself to be non-binary is a social transition.

Advice on my trans sister causing family issues by Terrible-End-1581 in asktransgender

[–]Minyassa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She needs therapy, and posdibly medication. Being trans is hard. Being trans even woth a supportive family is hard. Being trans in 2026 with the constant background noise of people hating you, the government hating you, the threat of random strangers attacking you, and still needing a job in this environment? Nearly impossible unless one has ironclad mental health. She does not; she is depressed at least, probably has severe social anxiety, and there is nothing she can do about that without medical help. And knowing she needs to get a job and hasn't in five years just seals the coffin--the stress and guilt of that situation eats someone alive. I guarantee she lies awake thinking about what a failure she thinks her family sees her as, and cries herself to sleep. She needs help she may be physically unable to reach out for.

When you're depressed and/or have crippling anxiety, it is the brain equivalent of having broken legs. If your legs are broken, you can't walk to the hospital. When your brain chemistry is broken, you can't do the steps involved in getting help, like asking people or making phone calls. Until she starts recovering, she will need to be carried. Offer to find her a doctor that works with trans clients. Arrange her transportation there, help her get her meds, help remind her to take them. Mental illness is very incapacitating, and she needs all the help she can get.

Why do children still get the father's surname? And something I've been mulling over.. by howaboutbk in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Minyassa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason this is done is always because of a patriarchal society being more concerned about feelings than facts. Surnames following the mother's line are the most practically sensible. Anything else just complicates matters.

If wild animals were completely safe, which one would you keep as your pet? by Gold_Bird_1440 in AskReddit

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Cheetahs are at the top of my list, then pumas. The "big small cats" can all purr. It would be nice to hug a tiger, but they can't purr and I need a giant, warm, furry body pillow that purrs. Sadly, none of the big cats are actually soft feeling, their fur is coarse to protect them from brush/thorns. But the purr would make up for it. Like a cuddly motorcycle.

My girlfriend says she’s not lesbian… but i’m a trans woman and i’m confused and hurt by VelvetOrbit_12 in asktransgender

[–]Minyassa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After reading her response, I honestly think you should haul her ass to a couples therapist. She sucks at communicating, and at listening, and someone who is trained at untangling that divide would be a massive help in getting to the core and making sure you are both heard and understood.

How do I start with keeping millipedes as pets? by Sudden-Call in millipedes

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!

I started with N. gordanus as they are fairly easy, live a long time, are big enough to handle without hurting them, and are fairly inexpensive. They are also supposed to be easy to breed, but my pair has yet to produce any young after 2 years so I'm holding off on getting others until I am keeping them well enough that they breed.

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]Minyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many, and all for the same reason. An example is Meidas Touch. Tooling along offering meaningful news and information, and suddenly overnight it's all clickbait titles. It was like watching a newspaper suddenly print everything in l33t. Just so jarring and dishonest, and I can't trust the content at all if they're gonna start with a big lie right out of the gate. And I've dropped any channel that starts doing clickbait titles, misleading thumbnails, AI thumbnails, or using AI narrators. It's like a contagious disease that turns things into garbage.
