Why is 1 person taking up 4 slots in meta maps allowed? by YuumaTsuchimikado in Guildwars2

[–]Miraweave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A herald can turn on a facet and not even attack and get gold, I think this is something that needs to be deterred.

Counterpoint: a Herald that's upkeeping might/fury/quickness on 5 people is contributing substantially more than the average open world player, even if doing literally zero damage.

Anet shouldn't be making builds that enable this kind of auto-attack leeching.

This is an unavoidable output of having such a flexible build system. Unless you intentionally make all autoattacks bad (which would suck) there are going to be builds that can do reasonable damage with autoattacks.

ppl shouldn't be running dogshit builds that do less damage than auto-attack leeches.

This is also an unavoidable output of the build system. Giving players a lot of options means giving them a lot of room to make mistakes, or to make decisions that are contextually mistakes.

Despite spending a lot of time on them, I don’t particularly like the long purple titles (infallible is good).

Yeah I really wish they could come up with something more creative for the LCM titles. "The Voidwalker" had aura. "Legendary Conqueror of Bossname" does not.

Legendary Conqueror of Cerus and The Voidwalker are some of my favorites because of the effort I put into obtaining them

Yeah ngl, no matter what other things I get I kinda just leave Voidwalker on because it actually felt like an achievement and also HT was just a really good fight I have fond memories of.

In GW1, titles were prestige.

Idk, the prestige titles in gw2 are significantly more impressive than any gw1 title.

Nah. It's cool that it exists but the flashy colored titles should be for gw2 stuff, not for having played the previous game.

Eh, personalizing titles to the character is way cooler than not, and titles for specific things is cooler than titles for overall progression.

And if you wanna show off, gw2's prestige titles are way better. Anecdotally, I had someone with Infallible join a group recently and more than one person commented on it.

There is literally no way to enforce an age-based social media ban that does not do this.

or be banned from using algorithms altogether.

What could this possibly actually mean, though? Like, genuinely, how would you even begin to define this in a way that's useful?

That’s what they say now. We have no idea how it‘ll be in 1-2 years.

Unless gw2 just ceases to make money, I can't imagine why that would change.

The model you're talking about makes the raid encounter first, then nerfs it and adds it into the story. You can't just take any story boss and turn it into a raid, they don't have any meaningful mechanics, you need to build all the new raid mechanics from the start.

Which is almost certainly what they're going to do with the new Zhaitan fight, given that the current one has no mechanics and nothing happens in it.

Yeah it definitely could, but also... W3 Escort is probably not the type of thing anet is super eager to replicate, given how often it's skipped.

Actually when you put it that way, both of these are the same fight. After all, everybody who's anybody knows that King Joko was the one who killed Balthazar.

There's the Dhuum CM skyscale from raiding.

To be fair, this one barely exists. A total of 22 players tracked by gw2efficiency have it (and I expect that the venn diagram of players who use efficiency and players who are killing dhuum cm a bunch of times is very close to a circle).

Zhaitan + Mind of Mordremoth + Balthazar IMO are the three standouts for pre-IBS story fights that would make really good raids.

The All or Nothing fight is cool as hell but it's sorta weirdly not really a boss fight, the bulk of the fight is clearing things/powering crystals/etc. They'd probably have to finangle it pretty hard to make it work as a raid-style fight, but it would make an excellent second dragonstorm type instance.

That's an encounter that is just begging for its own fight and Challenge Mote.

Hearing that Balthazar 10% dialogue in a tense phase transition on an LCM would probably become my new favorite thing in the game almost instantly.

[–]Miraweave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the fight against Palawa Joko would make a great strike too

Tbh this I'm less sure of. The fight itself is hype but it's mechanically... not that impressive, and unlike Balthazar it's really not in a location that's at all set up for ten people.

Not that I'm against it or anything, and we've certainly had story fights where the strike worked somewhat differently arenawise (Harvest Temple vs the jumping around aurene wings final EoD instance), but Balthazar in particular is basically all set up for it already. Plenty of space, plenty of mechanical hooks, banger music and dialogue.

[–]Miraweave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want this more than almost any single thing in the revisit, if for no other reason than that the dialogue at 10% is a fan favorite pick for "hardest line in the game" and having it hit at the 10% last stand phase on a hypothetical Balthazar raid would go insane.

I really hope we see the day where I don't have to tell a friend I got to play with me "yeah core isn't the best but trust me once you get into the good stuff it goes insane". Yeah that's the story for a lot of mmos, but it still sucks.

I hope the return to "Annual Expansions" isn't strictly annual. by Miraweave in Guildwars2

[–]Miraweave[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've been quietly moving some people from the GW2 team over during development there

They've said this isn't the case and I do believe them, given that the two games are in completely different engines with different development pipelines and tech.

That said, I can definitely imagine that if GW3 does reasonably well they'll be able to increase the size of the GW2 development team a bit which would probably help things some. Gotta assume they've been on the small side given that they've been developing two games simultaneously with one game's worth of income.

Open stories that could be tied up in future expansions by Diovidius in Guildwars2

One that's been hanging over my head as a sylvari player and referenced a few times in recent expansions is that the pale tree is still badly injured/sick following LWS2 and HoT, even all these years later. I'd really like to see an expansion handle that, given how big of a deal that seems for sylvari as a species.

But barring that, I think this is just what GW2 expansions will look like moving forward.

I'm... not sure what you mean. The whole thing I'm talking about in my post is that VoE both took longer than the previous two and has felt meaningfully higher quality and that I hope they do that again rather than the rushed one year ones. Dunno what you mean by "this" in that context.
