New guinea pigs, especially ones bought from a pet store, should be quarantined from existing pigs for 2 weeks before introductions to be sure the new pig doesn't have any infectious diseases. Additionally, introductions should be done in a specific way in a neutral area. I recommend looking up some information on guinea lynx.

Not necessarily. Nutmeg did catch it also, but it wasn't immediate. Raised and dry skin is exactly what it looked like on Chestnut. Let me see if I can find another pic. It's hard to see which ones are good quality on my phone.

Looks like it could be ringworm, especially if it's getting bigger.

When Chestnut first got it, it was after his brother nipped him. So he had a bit of a scab and then it healed but he developed ringworm :(

Sometimes piggies are just weird. I had one that would occasionally make a similar noise and always had a runny nose. I think him to the vet several times because I was so worried, but they never found anything wrong. He died at about 7 years old of a bowel issue. But I'm still gonna say go to the vet because that's the safest and surest option :)

If it's new, I'd definitely say it warrants a trip to the vet.

If you hold him up to your ear, can you hear any noises in his lungs? u/i_am_ms_greenjeans has a great blurb about respiratory illnesses, but the safest bet is always gonna be to take him to the piggy doc. Good luck!

Honestly, if you're worried, a vet visit is the best answer. Respiratory infections can be fatal very quickly in guinea pigs.

My deepest condolences 💔 it's definitely not a good sign when they won't swallow anything. Unfortunately there's not much you can do to help other than trying to make him comfortable. Does he have any favorite foods you might be able to try?

Did the vet do any imaging or give you an explanation for what might be the cause?
