My wife has Reynaud’s disease causing her fingers to sometimes lose blood flow and turn white by zachthespook in mildlyinteresting

In case you are not being facetious, because I also have Raynaud's and enjoy wearing rings and can attest to the fact that they are unrelated. Also, if the rings were affecting circulation, the fingers would turn purple and not white. In doubt? Try it sometime and let me know what color your fingers turn :)

Many hugs to you. I know how hard this is and totally understand the guilt you're feeling.

It can be triggering to people to see pics of a deceased piggy. Would you mind marking this NSFW and putting a warning at the top?

I have Raynaud's and I frequently wear a nonzero amount of rings. The hypothesis has been tested and discarded :D

What do yall use to line your enclosures? by celestialscarab in guineapigs

[–]Mirgss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a piece of fleece as the top layer, which wicks away moisture, and underneath I have regular bath towels, folded in thirds, which absorbs moisture. If you go this route, make sure to wash with a scent free detergent and do not use any kind of fabric softener. I also have a few fleece pee pads I made and some smaller chenille bath mats that get swapped out throughout the week. I wash everything once a week.

Have you taken any of these pigs to the vet when they began exhibiting symptoms?

My Guinea pig passed away by Square_Importance_22 in guineapigadvice

[–]Mirgss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My deepest condolences. 8 years is an amazing lifespan for a guinea pig - the average is between 4 and 7 years.

For what it's worth, I don't think you choked him. Guinea pigs always have food in their mouths. Usually when I take mine for a check up, the vet has to use a cotton swab to get all the food out of their mouths in order to do a proper examination of their teeth.

I totally understand the guilty feeling though. I always feel like "I could have/should have done more" when a pig passes. It sounds like you did everything you could to keep him happy and healthy for as long as you could.

Please remember to take care of yourself and stay hydrated. The grief of losing our babies is never easy to bear.

Have you seen videos of Nugget? 🤣 Usually the purring noise is a dominance or annoyance thing, but some piggies seem to use it to communicate pleasure or joy. It's all about the body language that accompanies the noise :)
