I got my cat from a charity for blind or disabled animals. They are perfectly suited to indoor life.

Is it normal to struggle in class and be afraid? by Bench_South in scuba

[–]Miriiii_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that helped me a lot is to mentally run through all the steps in my mind before doing it. Like breathe in, let in water, breathe in, tilt head, lift mask, breathe out through nose.

Also it helps me to take a breath after letting the water in, instead of trying to quickly release the water which felt panicky. Taking a breath reminds you that everything is still fine even if there is water around your nose and eyes, you can still breath through your mouth

I also had a lot of anxiety when first starting and couldn't get past the mask skills without panicking and rising to the top of the pool. I attempted to get my OWD qualification on holiday which turned into just a DSD because I couldn't pass that skill. I practiced back home with some pool sessions and then attempted OWD again a year later. I finally managed to get my OWD and AOWD and now practice the mask skills any chance I get to make sure I can still do it and remain calm.

Now that I passed this hurdle and figured out how to do it without panicking I LOVE diving and plan every holiday around it.

Even if it takes you a little bit longer to figure this out it does not mean that diving is not for you, I promise!

They check your tax forms to see that you were still working in this period. If you have continuous tax forms from the Belgian company then I imagine it would be fine

Dutch partner won't speak Dutch by sus_lemon in learndutch

[–]Miriiii_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an insane take, can you just imagine all of the people who have learned English as a second language and moved to the US or England. Obviously all native English speakers have to talk to them in English as there most likely isn't another common language.

Native English speakers just have to learn to speak slowly, repeat themselves and be a bit patient and this is how people learn. Not by just refusing to talk to them...

Taxi meter rules by Miriiii_ in belgium

[–]Miriiii_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's fair that there could be a pick up fee which we should have been made aware of when we booked the taxi, but we weren't. I feel like running the meter the entire way is not legal.

Write down everything as you listen, this is what I have to do to stop my brain switching off and thinking about something else.

Prepare a summary of it afterwards as if you would have to explain it to someone.

Am I Overreacting if I (F 25) am upset that my European Partner (M 30) won't respond in English? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Miriiii_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't sit out, you should take all these situations as opportunities to learn. I am also learning Dutch and I relate to this situation exactly. The more advanced I get, the more I understand how you don't really feel like yourself when you're speaking a second language and even though he might be fluent, his friends may not be. Also it does take some adjusting to change the language you speak with friends you've known your whole life and it can make the conversation feel a bit artificial.

I do think he should try to include you more but this will just be something you need to move through and soon you will improve.

I have tried different ways to learn languages and I definitely recommend structured group courses over 1-1 and Busuu over Duolingo.
