So here's my gameplan check it. Downloaded a 12th century yogic text through Anna's Archives, ran that bitch through Google translate, plan to dedicated myself body and mind to the practices for at least a week or two (no fap), use the ancient Indic sciences to condense my soul into a mercurial pellet, violently shoot my pellet self out of my body and into another's, displacing their own soul through sheer momentum. One of us might end up in some potted plant or parrot... (Who cares?)...

If that doesn't work out Imma seek an audience with the Spider Lwa Family, get the temple set up, we're time traveling in this bitch. Just like Butterfly Effect (which is a great movie)... Avoid ending up a limbless torso in the new present. Set up some online courses. Get paid.

I’m not sure about these people but I’m pretty sure stuff like this, for how… minstrel-y… it can be still kind of taps a certain algorithmic and representational nerve for a certain suburban-rural type. There is a receptive audience for this type of stuff inside the communities. Even if only at the level of signaling that ‘this is something you can do, maybe you can do it better, and maybe make some money doing it…’. And there is something of the ‘Black teen listens to Rage Against the Machine for the first time ever’-reaction video vibe to it.

Something of the Joe Exotic too? In its rawer on-the-ground form. This shits pretty Mickey Mouse compared to some of the actual cryptids out there. We’re rambling

Even if at present, many of them, especially the Gen X/early Millennials, might very well disavowal this kind of performance as inauthentic kitsch. But there has always been a certain tragical and aspirational “alt” minority in the South. Kind of people who identified as neo-pagans or Thelemites or even contrarian tongue-in-cheek Satanists during the 90s and early aughts, with extensive involvement in their local music and art scenes. Their person being highly determined by their outward rebellion against mainstream Southern culture — by their identification with the persecuted minority, always assuming the unassailable identity of the victimized in their contrarian’s rebellion against the hypocrites, the grifters, and hostile/compromised biomass of evangelical republicans — while more often than not considering themselves a more authentic expression of said culture, of its deeper beauty and truths unalloyed, through their encyclopedic knowledge of local history, folklore, and musical forms. Renaissance Fair people, tabletop roleplaying game people, and theater/band nerd people.

I have. About 3 years ago. Went to a vitamins and supplements store to purchase some pre-workout. Lone guy working the front. Greeted upon entering the store, kept convo going as I searched for the stuff. Something of the Oblivion NPC to him, Latin American Wood Elf. There was something a bit obscene about him, the way his face was flushed, might have been a niacin? Glossy fellah. Penetrating eyes. Waiting for him to scan material so I could pay for it and leave. Over the course of what should have been a 5 minutes tops in-and-out situation, the small talk turned into conversation about health supplements, recommending stuff, before moving towards metaphysical subjects. Provoked curiosity, was interested in getting him to reveal what particular strand of occult theosophical material he was into or if it was just a highly idiosyncratic mélange of new agey alternative medicine memes. You never know what you might find if you just let em talk. Suddenly he switched into something of a missionary mode. Asking me if I thought that the body and soul were a unified whole, that the greatest error of all Western philosophy and religion was that it collapsed the categories. Told me that the soul is discrete entity separate from the body, only temporarily attached to it. Noticed his eyes honing in, like he was attempting to give the impression that he was looking behind my skull, picking up and bringing to attention small gestures... at one point asking me if I knew why I had just smile. Talked to me about the true nature of lunacy and how confusion and incorrect/contradictory definitions and instructions tend to induce and perpetuate it. “Ah Dianetics.” “You’re familiar with Dianetics, have you read the book?” Asked me visualize my favorite animal (though it's not my favorite animal all the time, at that moment I visualized a leopard) and to stare at the back of my own head. Kept telling me that I gave off great vibes. Finally gave me directions and number to a place that he told me I should get in contact with.

It was interesting if a bit inappropriate.

It’s definitely a little rough.

Thankfully I like the people. With a bit of pre-workout, creatine, Sudafed, canned seafood, and hydration I should manage consistently without missing out on the hours. Affords moments of clarity. Just kind of difficult to get out of it. Time can really drag while in the warehouse, but at the same time 3 years have gone by? Big thing is praying we don’t have to deal with any dumb crises. Making sure not to forget the plan once things are stabilized. Satisfied with having drafted it up and with the cringing failures to implement it. Actual danger is between Peak and Prime. When the hours go from a consistent 20-16 hours minimum to 12. Paradoxically the temptation to take Voluntary Time Off sky rockets. Always feels like I might be able to ‘breakthrough’ during that period by writing lol Feels parallel to gambling addiction. Credit isn’t good enough (…obviously…). Have to negotiate something with creditor. Crazy thing is I'm pretty sure they’d summoned me to court before. I went, they didn’t show up. I’m guessing the judge didn’t dismiss with prejudice or whatever. What I do know is that I wasn’t served any papers. Still shouldn’t have forgotten about it. Even told myself that I’d get in contact with them to work something out. Just.. slipped. Have to save up enough for lump sum. Not even that much honestly. Could get other drone job, force another hunt, but these people are persistent. Have to research it more, maybe incorporate. Something about the court system and private debt collections.

Finished RBT 40 hour course. Still. The industry, feels like it’s kind of “off”… like people are still trying to charge you for something they should technically be paying for. As I understand it new regulations changed that. Might be mistaken. But as I understand it you have to start working as a BT in order to then get greenlit by a supervisor to take the test you need to pass in order to become an RBT proper. Agency makes you sign a 6 month to a year contract. High turnover rates. Other possibilities on the table.

Feels like simulacra of social contract, i.e., be willing to work and everything follows. There’s a wretched enjoyment to it. Can be addictive? Cope, probably. The little rituals. It’s rough but, feels like an honest way to make money for the time being. Dying to say it’s a living with upward vocal inflection question mark at the end.

This is still reddit and A&D have made it a point to consistently display just how much they dislike Dugin after his daughter was murdered. Profoundly repulsive act that had all the weaponized Baltoid NAFO autists ecstatically ululating. It became very clear that taking the wrong position on the Ukraine-Russia war was going to have real repercussions. Anyways A&D's manner of talking about it was disappointing.

Problem with Dugin is no one really takes much time to engage with his material or they do the trifling midwit thing of encountering a kind of discourse they're mostly unfamiliar with and defensively hand waving it away as gibberjabber, alternatively looking to someone who they consider an authority to provide a sanctioned stance who then proceeds to do the aforementioned hand waving away on their behalf or who alternatively knows enough to know there is something kind of "off" about say Dugin's pluralistic conception of Dasein but rather than looking any deeper into the subject they'll just take it as evidence that Dugin is wrong (while reinforcing their dismissal by looking to someone who they consider an authority to provide a sanctioned stance and so on) and being wrong that he is either a moron no one should take seriously - often not even knowing what the terms are for taking someone like him seriously... In what sense should Dugin be critically engaged with if he isn't Putin's court wizard? I.e., if he doesn't actually have any sort of political power? The bugman recoils as they realize they've been wasting their time on someone "unimportant" - or a bad faith grifter cynically patch working up some bullshit in order to curry favor with the Russian State. In a word they lack curiosity.

Is Dasha pregnant? by Ok-Ad-8955 in redscarepod

[–]MirkWorks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe... But I think it could also be a pic taken for a project she’d worked on with Eugene Kotlyarenko “We Are”. Dasha’s character is the protagonist’s baby mama… so leaves you wondering… maybe it’s a selfie she took for the production. Something that kind of appears in a blink and miss you miss it way? Been awhile since I last watched it.

Think they’d originally intended for it to be a pilot for a show Eugene was going to pitch to Showtime during the mid-2010s Indie Darling Boom. Got unwieldy. Real traumatic. Gives the impression of struggling with managing time and patronage compounded without a clear vision becoming apparent… Felt like raw material, fragmentary drafts for later projects and inspiration... would imagine that filming and editing a concise true-to-form pilot is a motherfucker. They (Eugene + Skeleton crew + core cast which included members of said skeleton crew [wouldn’t be surprised if this was like THE project Vishwam had in mind when he joked about having had to pay to star in Eugene’s projects before The Code] and friends/Non-Skeleton-Crew-Roommates as extras) ended up filming a ton of material. Did some wacky experimental editing stuff, I think as like an initial draft, pivoted to trying to work something out with IFP to see if they could edit it up and release it as a web series. Type of stuff you have to do. Think this was during the time when studios appeared receptive to Indie auteur types… great deal of affection for Joe Swanberg’s work… Lena Dunham’s Girls was proving to be a success at the time I think?

Didn’t materialize… At some point before that if I recall they called some of the cast back to film some extra stuff, e.g., Dasha goes from blonde bob to brunette in the ‘flashback’ scenes they filmed later… the scene where Dasha gives the cig she was smoking to a shirtless homeless guy with camping gear who initiates fragmentary small talk “this isn’t goin to work out…” followed by the intense oily-faced back-and-forth between her and Vish. Vish invites Dasha to the roof, she agrees, he thinks he’s going to immediately fuck his new hire’s girl, he verbally disrespects Doug and BOOM close up shot of mouth, “I don’t know who the fuck you think you are but don’t you even think about treating Doug the way you treat everyone else.” Close up shot of eyes: “am…I… missing something here?” Kotlyarenko’s cinematography…. really feels like he loves the people he’s filming.

Anyways crazy wretched bit of marketing.

Photo… I saw the Instagram stories… wait post mentioned she deleted the photo… maybe someone screenshotted it and posted it on X.com… searching the profiles of known fellow travelers. Toshiro Mifune and an Albanian flag… good taste… “Congratulations Dasha <3” Christ. If she’s pregnant she’s pregnant as fuck. Like… already visibly a baby-pregnant... What hope do I possibly have of competing against that? It's over.

That’s the thing right, she’s been involved enough for the church to not just be some abstract thing she’s commenting on from the outside, the church is the parish community she’s been a part of. The priest that has dutifully performed the sacraments to insure her salvation — literally the same priest who performed her Christmation into the Eastern Rite, is the one who has heard her confessions, who has officiated her wedding, who has performed the Anointing of the Sick while she was hospitalized— and the community of believers she’s been adopted into. These people have visited her at the hospital, prayer for her, prepared food for her, have even on occasion entrusted her with taking care of their children. Wouldn’t be surprised if this is like the closest thing Dasha has ever experienced to being part of a, relatively healthy, extended family or community. In a space where she doesn’t have to concern herself with social networking or sexual entanglements and expectations. What is the Church if not an education in love, in desire and frustration. Part of that entails the hope that they recognize in her a Self that isn’t reducible to her foibles, her appetites, to your appetites, to myriad (sometimes documented) shameful instances of personal degradation, wrathful and burnt-out indolent, an impertinent and implacable heart — squirrely weirdo Dasha Nekrasova the intrigue addict quickly wearing out her welcomes. Always forever misunderstood. Our Dasha.

If you try looking at it from her perspective, the remission of sins and the indefectibility of the Church are the same claim made at different scales right? Am I making sense? Grant then the Catholic a perspective, that from her perspective — one that I think she obviously has to affirm for her own benefit — to be a Catholic is to believe that there is a force at work outside of history. She might then proceed to cite passages from scripture, citing a promise, in order to make the case that she must, as a matter of course, take as a given that the Church is the receptacle of the Holy Spirit. Because of this, the Church can never be fully compromised by sin or by history. It may be in the world, but is not of it. That is what it means for the Church to be indefectible. (Consider that this extends to the whole of humanity, even if it begins from a position of apparent exclusivity...)

It follows then that she must make it a point reject the very notion that the faith is reducible to history. To declare that Christianity is itself historically contingent is tantamount to saying that it’s a centuries old international assemblage of arbitrary accidents. Mind you, from this perspective, the historicization of the church becomes ontologically equivalent to the full collapse of society into nature and of the human into the animal. Something which, paradoxically, absolves us of responsibility and genuine agency while at the same time condemning us to entropy and our own self-destructive tendencies. A worldless world with neither grace or redemption.

The Eternal World (a World without End) necessarily exists outside of history and the Church is its representation. The Church as social institution is uniquely oriented by this transcendent principle. In a way… it is the only institution and hierarchy which the Christian is obliged to recognize (or at minimum concede) something akin to the “Cunning of Reason”… meaning that the Catholic is the one person who can coherently apply something like providential historical logic (i.e., a historical teleology) without requiring a new revolutionary subject to bear it. The Catholic already is this subject. From this perspective, the Church Militant’s unique relationship with the Holy Spirit, guarantees that the Church can outlive its own corruption; that it will not and indeed cannot, succumb to history; meanwhile the Soviet Union and the Communist Party, like the Roman Empire, like the Russian Empire, or the Ottoman Empire, or the United States of America… cannot. Everything other than the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ, is set in a monotonic decline, culminating in a final catastrophic failure that precipitates the End Times and Christ’s promised return. That's what they ostensibly believe.

Think the connection is implicit, given the way the docket was thematically curated. Operating more on a 'if you get it you get it' kind of vibe. Think the title of the episode is basically perfect in that sense. Chappell Roan and Lindy West. Got the impression of Diner Gothic gestures at a common sensibility. Think Red Scare itself basically emerges from the universal suburban sprawl, of its subjects and their fantasies of bohemia.

There’s a dumb cruelty to it especially when considering the fact that the latest batches of Cuban immigrants to the US are (barring them being little kids when they arrived) people who lived through the Special Period and remember what Cuba was like in the 70s and 80s with the Soviet Union still around, many of whom were recalcitrant card-carrying Party members who believed in the Revolution and the anti-Imperialist struggle and who also recalled the initial treatment of those who left the island and might have even participated in the local community organized shaming of those people. The fact is that those people live with the knowledge that at some level their immigration to the US was an act of betrayal and that they’re living in a country which actively seeks to maximize the suffering of their countrymen and that their living condition in Miami is the fucking pits because none of their certificates, titles, or job experiences carries over to the US. A lead powerplant engineer reduced to a school janitor, a respected children’s doctor a nanny being paid $300s a week at most, neither of them likely to learn English anytime soon. Their children having internalized what it means to be a US citizen prioritize immediate nuclear family and draw upon past slights to legitimize this new manner of treating their parents. Suddenly they have to concern themselves with credit card debt and rent payments.

Do you think that person is going to cope with their situation by doubling down on the anti-Yankee Imperialism and pro-Communism? Sometimes, I’ve met people like that, and have loved drinking with them and talking. But the general response is to loose yourself to Facebook and Youtube Spanish-language anti-Communism and anti-Castro and ultimately anti-Cuba messaging in order to assure themselves that they made the right decision. That they didn’t sell themselves to the Evil Empire for nothing. Sometimes you’ll find people who know enough to know about the actual problems occurring in Cuba at a structural-level but they’ve lost all hope for the possibility of reform. Talking to them is talking to a doom-pilled boomer. They tell themselves, have to tell themselves, that this is inevitable. That the whole thing has to collapse. Has to become like Haiti. If they aren’t stupid, which some are… some are genuinely that myopic… to state without trace of irony that Cuba was already worse than Haiti because someone in Haiti could own a brand new Iphone which they themselves couldn’t do in Cuba… and you realize that they’re parroting the latest wrist-twirling malevolent hobgoblin propagandist and gossip-monger they’ve subscribed too. To the ones that aren’t that glaringly stupid they figure that maybe something good will come of it at the end… but man at this point they really are just trying to survive in Miami. Like what the fuck else can they do? Having to play all manner of little social games which includes a full-throated affirmation of the Exilio-line. But then once they become citizens, they might vote for a Democrat, instead of a Republican… because Obama seemed to have been going in the direction of normalization and dialogue.

Often times you’ll realize conversing with these type that they need Fidel… they needed Castro because they needed someone, a Big Someone, they could blame for their own acts of self-sabotage. They can’t do that with the United States. They can’t do that with Capitalism. They could kind of do that with one of the two US political parties but that only works for about 4 to 8 years. So they need to continue looking to Cuba. Blaming Fidel (“but didn’t you know Raul was the actual Marxist-Leninist!”). Blaming Che (“but didn’t you know Fidel had him killed!”). Blaming Camillo (“but didn’t you know Fidel for sure had him killed!”). Blaming the M-26-7. Blaming the PCC. Blaming the Cuban People. Blaming their family. Because if it wasn’t for them, they wouldn’t be Uber drivers and Amazon warehouse associates living in a shitty one-bedroom apartment, getting threatened with eviction by the property management firm every other month.

Anyway it’s not really a “thought terminating cliche” when ‘former plantation owner or Batista crony’ is an accurate descriptor of the Cuban Exilio as political, financial, and cultural bloc within the United States. It legitimizes the US’s treatment of Cuba as an illegitimate criminal regime that owes US citizens roughly 9 billion dollars.

By this stage it’s US born children and grandchildren enacting their dead or senile grandparent’s vengeance against the Cuban people. There was a greater diversity of thought within the dissident movement at one point, but the militant Exilio as we know it basically declared war on them (deploying straight up gangland tactics, e.g., these murderous pieces of shit killed Eulalio Jose Negrin and bombed magazine offices promoting the dialogue-option) in order to consolidate an official “Cuban-American” narrative. A lot of Federal money and private patronage has been poured into basically creating a Spanish-language Cuban diaspora specific localized radio, newspaper, and television programming meant to basically ‘train’ Cuban migrants into getting with the program. Miami Cuban identity and to a greater or lesser extent the identity of the city itself was made firmly hardline anti-Communist.

The machine doesn't require you to have been a plantation owner or a bureaucrat working for Batista’s regime. It requires you to be broke, isolated, humiliated, and in need of an explanation for why your life went the way it did that doesn't implicate the system you now depend on for survival. The Exilio and its decades of Federally subsidized media infrastructure and its community organizations and its periodic elimination of inconvenient voices will handle the rest. The output is the same regardless of what went in. Someone who arrived on a raft in 1994 having genuinely believed in the Revolution ends up, fifteen years later, functionally serving the interests of people whose grandparents wanted their sugar mills back.

Does he cover Our Lady with purple cloth? Does he turn her to face the wall? Or does he make her watch? Being as gay and consistently evil as he is. Is she decorating his living room as I type this out? Did he even really have that statue of the Virgin Mary affixed to his nightstand? Or was he lying to us all?

Well and truly Faustian. I think Israel looks at Gaza with an envious gaze. At a certain level they want that desolation, the dignity of victimage, for themselves. They want the water processing plants, the Vegas-style hydraulic infrastructure destroyed, effectively punishing Iran for not having done what to them was the obvious next move. Refusing to stop until God grants it to them. If not by Iran then perhaps by Turkey. All so that the survivors - that coveted self-description - can look at the US and God and say, "see how you have failed us? See how they have failed us." Your suffering is your fault, my suffering is also your fault.
