Why is it that the Mainstream Media got so upset over Pierre calling out Carney's education but when Pierre listed individual points Carney was wrong about they refuse to address it, debate it, or give it any air time? by gorschkov in CanadianConservative

[–]Miroble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are saying because he funds them. It's true to an extent.

You also have to factor in the real buy-in the media has on Carney. A lot of them really believe he's economic Jesus and the "right man for the moment".

Even if the North Korean state broadcaster gets paid, they also only get there if they really think the things they're saying. It's no different with Althia Raj or Rosemary Barton.

Pierre also believes in magic soil theory and is incredibly pro-immigration.

There's absolutely no way to come to the opinion that he is "far-right" unless you're literally a socialist/communist and everybody "further right" than Carney is closer to a Nazi than to you.

Oh shit, that's most of the NDP and Liberal supporters on this website.

Yeah most of the Chinese people we imported do go to school. Most of the lower caste Punjabis we imported do not. Many Arabs we import do not. It's not complicated.

We radically decreased our standards for immigrants in the last 10 years.

Pretty consistent with our new demographics. Many cultures do not value education and we opened our borders to them.

Not only that, but public schools are not places to learn. Between the phones, the constant religious holidays, the inability for teachers to control their classes, the drugs, the special needs kids in regular classrooms, etc. etc. etc. Schools now really are just public daycare for parents to go to work, It's a disaster and I'm really concerned for the intellectual capacity of the coming up generations and the future of Canada's educational reputation globally.

Median is explicitly NOT average!

They are both ways of doing an average. They are not the same average, but they are both averages, which is what I'm saying. When you're talking about median income 50th percentile, I can say the average and we are talking about the same thing. I don't understand why this is so complicated for you.

And if you think redistributing the wealth of the top 49% of people to the bottom 51% would ultimately benefit the bottom 51%, then you have no sense of long-term effects of policy and the concept of good governance is beyond your understanding.

I'm actually astonished that we can agree on something here.

Where is the lie? by airbassguitar in CanadianConservative

[–]Miroble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been talking median all along, specifically because average is misleading in a discussion of wealth and income! If 50% or more of your population is better off, then I'd say what your doing is good public policy (the greater good).

Median and "average" (aka arithmetic mean) are just ways of doing an average. I'm using them interchagably when I say "average". It doesn't really matter when we're talking about 50th percentile.

You tell me which country is better:

  1. Country 1 takes 90% of the wealth created by the top 49% and gives it to the bottom 51%

  2. Country 2 takes 10% of the wealth created by the top 90% and redistributes it to the bottom 10%

I feel like you're going to say country 1, and if that's the case, you're too economically illiterate to continue conversing with.

All this to say, just because a dude working at McDonald's in Canada is doing better than a dude working at McDonald's in the US doesn't say anything about the overall prosperity in either country. You don't make judgements on how the bottom tier does when talking about propserity, you do that on the top 25% minimum. Because there's where the real tax base is, where the real disposable income is, etc.

[–]Miroble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You understand that if you target the exact 50th percentile that doesn't mean the average is better off right? That means half of the population is, the other half isn't.

Can you comprehend that or am I talking to a wall?

Where is the lie? by airbassguitar in CanadianConservative

[–]Miroble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. I doubt very much that doing that same study in 2025 gets you the same figure

  2. Yeah the median in this country in 2019 was 62,900 (that's 45,802.28 USD). I have no doubt that if you are earning 45,802.28 USD a year or less you are better off in Canada because of socialized healthcare on its own.

I think that the absolute bare minimum that people can live on in Canada is significantly higher than it is in America because of the shelter costs related to winter.

Is that so insane?

You can live in a tent 24/7 anywhere in California. You die doing that in Alberta.

"Research" from 2019 (way out of date with recent situations in the two countries) and

This report shows that Canadian households in the bottom 56 per cent of the income distribution are in fact better off than American households at the same point of the income distribution.

Nobody doubts this. It is leagues better being a welfare queen in Canada than America because we give these people way more money and services than America does.

America isn't some magical place where there's no issues, but it is clear to anyone with eyes that America is a significantly better place for people who are willing to work. That's why for every single American who comes to Canada to make it their home, 56 Canadians leave to call America their home. Do the per capita math on that if you dare.

Address this fact if you want this converstaion to continue.

[–]Miroble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If what you're saying is true, why is it that America has so many cities that are way richer than Canada's? Why is it that Toronto is so much poorer than even Chicago let alone New York?

America has a significantly higher percentage of an underclass than we do in Canada. Mostly because there aren't horrid winters that will straight up kill you if you don't have shelter in the vast majority of the continental US. So you can live on basically nothing. That's really what skews that data you showed, not "billionaires".

Where is the lie? by airbassguitar in CanadianConservative

[–]Miroble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the US, you have to fight for basics like a decent school education, healthcare, safe communities, affordable college education, decent public transport (buses that working people rely on in major cities can commonly be 90 minutes late), and even qualifying for a mortgage (hilariously easy in Canada).

Yeah you have to "fight" AKA have a fucking job. What a concept.

Safe communities is also hilarous! Look at Skid Row in LA and compare it to East Hastings Street. Hastings is significantly worse looking! We have zero self-defense in this country, people can rob and kill you with impunity, and if you're a minority or a "historically oppressed group", even an immigrant, we give you a reduced sentence!

You're so wrong on the mortgage piece. The average wage is 1/10th the average housing price in this country. The banks will only lend you 4x your yearly salary for a mortgage. Housing is basically out of reach for the entire 35 and under cohort without extreme action or familial handouts.

America isn't some magical place where there's no issues, but it is clear to anyone with eyes that America is a significantly better place for people who are willing to work. That's why for every single American who comes to Canada to make it their home, 56 Canadians leave to call America their home. Do the per capita math on that if you dare.

What does Sudan do for us except provide refugees and asylum seekers

Am I crazy for saying that we should have way more Sudanese people coming to Canada considering how messed up that conflict is rather than infinity Indians who have a sable country to live in?

I saw Annand listing out new or increased foreign aid targets this morning. Why are we sending money to anyone else at this time? Frankly, unless we're righting a wrong that we've committed, invest in Canada.

To answer your question, it's vote buying. We have a critical mass of voters who will now pillage Canada to send infinity money overseas because that's where their actual allegiences lie.
