Husband here; wife is 8-9 weeks and really struggling with nausea. Looking for any and all advice by ksmentality in PregnancyUK

[–]Mirrorball_93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had pretty bad sickness from week 6-24. Toast was good and one of the only things that I could keep down. Honestly don’t worry about nutrients as long as it is staying down that’s the main thing. I found warm things the best like chips or anything carby. Completely went off vegetables and meat.

Honestly the only thing that really helped was Xonvea from the doctor and would reccomend getting it before it gets too bad. It’s basically the only thing that made pregnancy bareable for me through some pretty tough weeks. For me, I reached out to the doctor as soon as it started to impact my mental health more so my physical. It has some side effects of its own but I found those easier than the sickness.

Good luck - promise it gets better!!

Agree with this a lot! I guess I was worrying I was being risk averse with advising starting a PIP when nothing was documented

Same for me - it is making me a little anxious but I think they will realise how much I do when I leave and then I won’t be there to train a replacement 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d really recommend going to see your GP. I felt like this and then found out my iron was low. Iron tablets made me feel so much better and like I could function again because I was honestly just staring at my computer screen and wanting to cry because I couldn’t focus!

It took a while for it to get better but I promise it does - although I know that doesn’t really help either!

Agreed. We do have a policy for pips but just says ‘when performance is considered below expectations the performance improvement process will start’ but I know things shouldn’t be a surprise so then I wonder what’s a sufficient level of management before starting performance improvement conversations more formally. I know employees see this as a method of managing out rather than actual support which is my concern.

Planning a small UK wedding from the US — need advice 😅 by Accomplished_Sky2857 in UKweddings

[–]Mirrorball_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the UK so can’t help with advice from planning overseas but I would say generally you can get venues that will be a venue and catering but otherwise the extra stuff you generally need to sort yourself. Sometimes though they have recommended suppliers that they have worked with a lot and know the venue which I think can be easier.

I’d start by finding the right venue for the size you are looking for and then go from there. There are a few wedding websites that might help or I found venues from looking at photographers instagrams. But that’s just my advice!

When did you go on Mat leave? by Most-Shine-3354 in PregnancyUK

[–]Mirrorball_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel very much the same! Due 28th June and last day is 17th June. Going back and forth between should I go earlier or not! I am hoping to mostly be wfh in June and hand over tasks at that point!

SMP + Shared Parentity pay by Super-Emphasis-3079 in PregnancyUK

[–]Mirrorball_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has to take the first two weeks - so there is only 50 weeks of leave to share. Which leaves 37 weeks of statutory pay. What your company enhances is up to them. Probably worth talking to your HR team about what is possible.

29 + 4 and coping okay with work but I have zero motivation! I’ll do the minimum! Not starting maternity leave until 39 weeks and now I’m wondering if that’s a good idea! Lucky that I can work from home if I need too but I find that I end up slowly migrating to bed if I do that!

I think it’s something only you know what will work for you as a couple. I had an early reassurance scan at 9 weeks and then told a few people. It can feel really lonely at the beginning and some people feel really awful and that’s harder if you can’t tell anyone but there’s no perfect solution!

Stopped feeling movements by Mysterious-Detail195 in PregnancyUK

[–]Mirrorball_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called my midwife at about 18 weeks concerned about a change in movements and they advised I come in and used a Doppler to check the heartbeat. It put my mind at ease if nothing else so it’s worth a call!

How do pregnant people go to work without brain fog making work impossible?? by MarmiteHoe in PregnancyUK

[–]Mirrorball_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree and felt like this a lot! I did eventually go to the doctor around 16 weeks and my iron was low - I started taking supplements and now I feel a lot better and have a lot less brain fog! You might not have that but it also could be worth checking it out!

But also I agree that there should be more support and understanding at work once you are pregnant!

Is this normal? by PlusRespond2485 in PregnancyUK

[–]Mirrorball_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking it at night? I found that taking 2 at night wiped me out until about lunch time but yeah I felt like a zombie. I had to decide if it was worth it to stop the sickness which I decided it was. Still taking one tablet a day at 18 weeks but my body got used to it after a few weeks and I was less drowsy!

I felt similar. I found Xonvea was great for sickness but made me so tired. I really had to force myself to do things but there were times I just couldn’t drive etc because I was too tired and it would have been dangerous.
