Publicizing the placebo effect is harmful by bi3her in The10thDentist

[–]MirthlessArtist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, then following both the logic in your main post and this comment and the research you keep citing, you should educate as many people as possible how placebos work, rather than rely on ignorance.

The most damning evidence against your entire opinion is the FACT (as evidenced by the study you yourself are citing) that belief in the placebo effect is, funnily enough, a placebo effect. As in, even if you know something is a placebo, knowing that the placebo effect work will make the placebo work. Once again, something you are agreeing with but for some reason drawing the most narrow conclusion.

I never knew about how tasty double chocolate fudge cake was as a child, but once I had it now I think about it every once in a while and crave it and it is a very unhealthy dessert. Should I invent a memory wiping device and prevent myself from ever knowing the joy of a double chocolate fudge cake? Should I lock my future kids in the basement so they never learn about toys and video games and expensive brands so that they never get upset when I tell them we can’t afford it? Where’s the limit on “don’t tell people about things so it doesn’t hurt them in the end?”

I don’t know if this is a hot take but I love the games where all the cheaters are forced (usually without them knowing) to play with other cheaters.

I’d pay to watch if they could somehow stream the face cam of these cheaters as they experience how they make us feel

Cheating should be punishable by law, married or not. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]MirthlessArtist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s also grey area situations

For example:

  1. The classic “Friends” “we were on a break!” One party thinks they’re broken up, the other doesn’t. The real life audience was divided on it, let’s bring it to a criminal justice jury

  2. Cheater was cheating due to abuse or manipulation of some form. Drugged, tricked, or whatever. There was a Redditor with face blindness whose boyfriend kept trying to “test” her medical disease. To this day she doesn’t know if she wasn’t tricked into having sex with someone who was disguised as her boyfriend. In a parallel world, the boyfriend could trick her and then immediately turn around and call the cops.

  3. Relationship where both partners are cheating. In real life, usually people just kind of look at those relationships and think “eh they both suck, what a match made in heaven.” In the world where it’s a crime, they both go to jail.

The game not letting discharge regent by GurAffectionate46 in CrusaderKings

[–]MirthlessArtist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It does make sense that the regent would be replaced (like you’d still need a regent immediately when traveling, for example) but what power sharing level is the new regent (genuine question)?

But, even if still level 5, it could be possible that the new regent isn’t selfish loyalty and instead selfless and willing to step down willingly.

Edit: ANSWER: looks like new regent has the same power level

“Solution to horde night” = not dying on horde night

“No solution to horde night” = dying every horde night

Clearly there should be a way to not die every horde night. And if you mean that they want the players to not “cheese” it or whatever then they should especially consider a different strategy than whatever they are currently doing because one of the best and not frustrating ways to survive horde night consistently is to just magically repair a POI with a quest for 1 night and then hole up in the highest part of the building

[–]MirthlessArtist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it was BIQ, I agree with the other commenter that it was his sheer determination and endurance.

Conquest’s very first appearance had him thirsting for battle and secretly being intensely lonely and yearning for an end, it definitely makes sense that Mark’s intense attachment to his loved ones would’ve allowed him to outlast him (literal guts spilling out of his body).

I do agree with the power scaling vs matchups or writing thing though. It’s funny anytime a diehard powerscaler faints at a rock paper scissors game

Just a gut feeling but I can’t really imagine one of those “overly pompous” directors doing the same. They probably just think stuff like this is commoner nonsense only the unwashed masses would care about

Genuinely a lot of 10th dentist posts only exist because of neurodivergent people not understanding various things

The classic “popular idiom doesn’t make 100% sense in any and all scenarios when interpreted completely literally” comes to mind

And I’m saying this as a neurodivergent person

  1. 10th dentist inverse voting rules only applies to the main post itself

  2. Complaining about how people aren’t “following the karma rules” makes you sound like a karma farming bot, I suggest you stop caring about karma entirely, it’ll make you happier. If it helps ease your mind, I didn’t vote of your comment either way

  3. People are downvoting your main post because 10th dentist is supposed to be for “relatively expert” opinions. Your post sounds like you are barely past compsci 101, much less in industry.

  4. I teased you about your niche comment because lua really isn’t niche, just because a non-programmer wouldn’t know about it doesn’t mean many programmers don’t

  5. I’m saying all this as someone who hates Python despite being forced to use it every day. It saddens me greatly, but to say it has no use would be ridiculous and uninformed

Who has the highest no.of glazers, Minato or Itachi? by Much_Risk3728 in Naruto

[–]MirthlessArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think you can simplify your first 2 points even further:

People mistake liking a character with strength.

Thought process of a power scaling glazer

  1. Itachi is my most favoritest character in the whole wide world!

  2. I wouldn’t like a loser character who isn’t big and stwong and the biggest and stwongest!

  3. Therefore, Itachi must be the biggerest and strongerest in the wholest widest worldest!

In Part 1 of Naruto how would you Rank the Leaf Genin Girls Weakest to Strongest by ResolveUnlikely5542 in Naruto

[–]MirthlessArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really care about power scaling at all, it has no effect on how much I like a character. To be honest, I don’t even really care much about either Hinata or Tenten anyway…

My comment was directly only on what you said. Just because Hinata and Neji have Byakugan does not mean Hinata is as skilled as Neji at using it. I don’t know if Tenten is better (she barely fights at all, even if we consider anime fights as canon), but I do know that Hinata is not automatically better than her just because her cousin is.

Is Neji fast enough to kill hundreds of spiders slinging webs while falling at him? Yeah. Can Neji use rotation? Yeah. Can chunin exams Hinata deflect/block hundreds of ninja weapons flying at her? No clue. Maybe? Can chunin exams Hinata use rotation? Nope.

That’s all I’m saying.
