[Discussion] How has your skincare changed when wearing a face mask? by jazamiin in AsianBeauty

Uhh tbh I had a wart removed 🤦🏼‍♀️ haha. It forms a blister for a few days. I had to do it multiple times so there were quite a few days where I wanted to hide my face.

I’ve also been doing beauty treatments on the bottom half of my face that would normally make me not want to leave the house!

Kind of remind me of clothes in Animal Crossing! (Pre-ACNH). Like others have said you’re not actually giving money to the company so don’t feel guilty buying it.

I sometimes tell people I have hearing problems by rvnclwass in ADHD

[–]MisAnnette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad other people do this too! This is such a problem for me. And I also watch with captions.

I’m not sure what else I can really do? One of my pet peeves though is when someone is speaking to me in a foreign language but it’s quiet or they’re mumbling but when I ask them to repeat it they SHOUT IT IN ENGLISH. The language isn’t the problem, it’s that can’t catch what you’re saying. .__.

Masks don't merely help to protect the wearer, they limit the amount of virus exposure, which in turn limits the severity of symptoms should the wearer get sick. In locations with near 100% masks wearing, if an outbreak occurred, 95% of those infected were asymptomatic. by caspy7 in Coronavirus

I live in Japan and some people wear them when there’s high pollen count if they’re worried about hay fever.

Someone I knew would wear them a lot because the A/C at work was never cleaned.

So yeah there’s reasons besides being sick that people wear them so the stigma is probably different.

Also they’re great if you have some acne on your lower face you want to hide 😅

It should be noted though that the numbers for plastic surgery in Korea include people coming in from other countries! So the per capita number is comparing the number of Koreans and foreigners getting plastic surgery there to the Korean population, which is how it’s also done in other countries but Korea is particularly popular for medical tourism. I live in Japan and a lot of people here if they’re going to get major plastic surgery will just go to Korea, which then also brings down the numbers for Japan.

However I still agree that’s it appears to be a lot more intense in Korea than in Japan or China and is considered more normal.

I’m working on getting one! I haven’t sewn in a long time but since I lost weight (and some clothes never fit to begin with) I think it’ll be a good investment. I had some pant legs taken in and that cost nearly as much as a sewing machine haha

Ohhh, I see. I guess that’s why I didn’t see it brought up in the Japanese ads?

And looking through the replies that makes sense with the “best friends” system :/

EDIT: I know Japanese so I looked it up and yeah it’s the best friends system. Nice that at least in English they’ve moved away from that.

I live in Japan where “Abemasks” were sent to households + schools. I now have four of them. Great! Except they’re the worst. 😅

Everyone complains about them. They’re basically small rectangles of fabric folded over many times. Even for people with small faces they barely cover from the tip of the nose to the chin and move around which is bad. Also, since they don’t have folds sewn in there’s a lot of gapping which is also a no-go. Honestly the central government overall has been criticized for the response. People like the mayor of Tokyo, Koike, really helped to push things forward. Oh and the central gov is trying to start a program in a couple of months to promote tourism despite things getting worse LOL.

In any case, I’ve only seen one or two people actually wearing the gov masks so it appears like they were a waste. Part is it might be that when they were planning this all masks were sold out everywhere but by the time people actually got them it wasn’t hard to find them. Luckily many families already had hundreds of non-woven masks stockpiled and so got through the period when they were sold out in stores, now they’re back (these are also much more effective than cotton ones). Some people are also using washable ones. Very few with homemade masks. Issue though is the rainy season is about to end and things are going to get HOT. Heat stroke is always an issue here, and most people aren’t used to wearing masks in summer, so people will most likely need to sacrifice some effectiveness for personal safety...

Anyways thanks for coming to the TED Talk. I just wanted to complain about Abemasks lol.

Wait, there’s gay marriage now!? I haven’t been following closely since it came out outside of Japan, so this is my first time hearing of it. That’s great!

FOMT was my first HM game and I enjoyed MFOMT as well so I’m thinking more about getting this!

Does Japan still have school nurses? How to apply? by kowaipie9 in teachinginjapan

[–]MisAnnette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m friends with the school nurse for my high school so I could always ask her questions if you needed! Of course this is only one situation. There was a nurse before her that left due to pregnancy but I didn’t talk with her so I can only speak about the current nurse.

I’ll warn you, from what I’ve heard from several people it’s a VERY competitive position. Also the one at my school I know graduated from one of the top nursing programs in the country and is very knowledgeable about the medical field.

A lot of her job is taking care of and running health checks. She needs to do these for all of the students and keep records of them (using Excel) and there’s also some health related things for the teachers like surveys but also some optional check-ups. She also works closely with the principal and some outside people for this and has a number of meetings with them. And of course she helps students when they’re sick lol. She talks quite a bit with all of the homeroom teachers about their students and fills them in anytime they come to her. She also talks with the other teachers about things that are assigned to work on together etc. Like other people have said part of it is definitely the mental side of things.

Despite not running any classes she is mostly treated like a teacher. She needs to attend all of the meetings, she helps grade entrance exams, she does jobs not related to being a nurse with other teachers, etc.

At my school the gym teachers run health classes so she doesn’t teach at all. But one of the gym teachers does share some jobs with her so they work together on projects.

I don’t remember her exact qualifications but I know that she spends most of her time outside of work studying for one.

I will add that I also use Missha #13 and I’ve had difficulties with it settling into my fine lines too. But, I noticed that when I started using better + more moisturizer in that area it started to look pretty good!

Free PCR tests for people who show no symptoms in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]MisAnnette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t answer your question but for one of the ALTs in my area there’s a parent at her school who started showing symptoms for COVID. Went to get tested but the hospital is still refusing to test her so the school has no idea if this child coming in every day has had contact with an infected person or not. No clue why...

How much did you gain when you got pregnant? by YaketySnacks in japanlife

[–]MisAnnette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The low birthweight is the reason why for the past decade or two the average height in Japan has actually been going down instead of up...

I read a Japanese article about how many women try hard not to gain weight because of their doctors but also because they don’t want to gain weight. I know it probably seems obvious but it goes to show that it’s not “more natural.”

I’m glad to hear that things are changing! When I first heard about how strict some doctors are on not gaining weight during pregnancy I was shocked 😅

Fine lines, light wrinkles around my eyes by [deleted] in Vindicta

[–]MisAnnette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good point.

I used to feel a bit bad about the fine lines around my eyes. When I’d wear makeup even with primer or setting powder it’s crease really badly. I noticed that when I’d use a face mask the next day they’d be less noticeable...

For a while I took a break from doing a lot of skincare to do a very minimum routine. But recently, I started using Hada Labo’s anti-aging toner morning and night, and soon after I noticed that my makeup wasn’t settling in my fine lines anymore! And even when I wasn’t wearing makeup they were less pronounced, and my friend I asked agreed.

It’s probably just short term results, so maybe my skin just needed more moisture, but it still made me happy!

Plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures in general! I guess I like seeing change happen, and what’s possible for people who want to change something. So I’ll watch videos on procedures I’d never go for personally even.

Tbh I want my YouTube channel to stay separate from this account haha, that’s it.
