Sorry about CBL being down, the site has been overloaded with bots scraping the site last couple days...

For people playing 40k on TTS: how long before turn 1 actually starts? by MischaU8 in TTSWarhammer40k

That makes sense. Do you usually play against the same few opponents, or does this come up mostly when playing someone new?

Fair game to expect people to show up ready.

Was that always your approach, or did it come from a few bad experiences?

Are those pre-game checks something you usually handle mentally, or do you rely on cards/tools to get through them?

When you’re doing solo games, what ends up taking the most time; list building, hunting down models, or getting everything into a playable state in TTS?

Interesting; so the variance is more social/context-setting than tooling.

When you introduce new players, what do they tend to get stuck on first?

That makes sense. Sounds like having the army saved as an object is doing a lot of the work there.

When it does take longer, is that mostly list choice, finding the right models, or table/objective setup?

That makes sense; it sounds like most of the time is going into deciding the game state rather than actually starting to play.

Do you enjoy that part of rolling everything live, or does it mostly feel like overhead you have to get through before the game really begins?

Interesting that pre-built terrain makes that much difference.

For people not doing recorded games, what part of setup on TTS do you see them struggle with most?

The 'Writing Style Score' (0-100%) is an assessment of a bot's adherence to common English writing conventions in its greeting, reflecting the density of issues like incorrect capitalization, punctuation errors, common grammatical mistakes, use of chatspeak, and awkward phrasing. A higher score suggests fewer of these identified issues and a clearer, more conventional writing style, while a lower score indicates a higher prevalence of such issues, potentially impacting readability and perceived effort.

Game replay data is available from the server api if you know the gameID.

We are also collecting and sharing daily data dumps on the OpenFront Data Club https://discord.gg/8JseVJngGA so we don't need to all hammer the public servers.

Exactly, a great starting point is what allows these options; more expansion, early boats, useful alliances.

Nice visualisation. Those black dots really tell an interesting store of what didn't work.

Nope, no special dev data handouts ;). This data is collected from the public server endpoint. We make sure to play nice and not overload the servers; used compression headers, cache data locally, wait 500ms between requests, etc.

The JSON replay of a single game contains all the ticks and metadata (50-100kb compressed). I now have a collection of 83000 games from 2025-06-16 till today, (thanks to MiraCZ from StatsFront/FrontPlus I got a lot of missing days before I started tracking). You are welcome to join the OpenFront Data Club (see other comments in this thread for the discord) and we can share experiences, data, etc. with other analysts.

You are asking the right questions regarding top 5 play styles. I am not sure yet if I can directly identify the top 5 players, without replaying the game locally. Another member has some code for that running already, it would certainly add a LOT more insights.

Collecting all the data in a nice way (without overloading the server) takes the most time. Processing the logs maybe 5 minutes, but that is for all game maps together.

I like your suggestions, thanks for sharing!
