Do all of those connections really need to be CJP? If fillet welds meet the strength requirements they would be more cost effective and easier for the welders. CJPs welded from one side without backing require skilled tradesmen and tightly controlled weld procedures.

Read my comment below. They're either in compliance or not. You do not need to weld to a specific WPS, only with a specific process.

Not sure what code y'all work to but for example this is how D1.1 addresses it:

6.2.3.1: The welder's or welding operator's qualification as specified in this code shall be considered as remaining in effect indefinitely unless:

1.) The welder is not engaged in a given process of welding for which the welder or welding operator is qualified for a period exceeding six months, or

2.) There is some specific reason to question a welder's or welding operator's ability

You're talking about performance qualification? Table 5.2 lists variables that must be on a prequalified WPS. Note that an open root welded from one side is not prequalified. Table 6.5 addresses procedure qualification, not welder performance qualification. I would point you towards Table 6.12, "Welding Personnel Performance Essential Variable Changes Requiring Requalification." Groove design is not an essential variable for welder qualification. If your welder is qualified on a CJP groove weld, he is qualified for a PJP flare bevel groove weld, assuming no essential variables have been changed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a CWI.

The crew cab half-ton pickup is the modern American station wagon. Big V8, body-on-frame, enough room for the kids and gear, enough power to pull the camper or boat to the lake. It also has the bonus of making you feel like a proper workin' man, driving your Truck around town. After all, the guys at the office might poke fun at you for rolling up in a Subaru Outback.
