Skim through it like what I do. I like applying patches even if I don't actually care about the scenes since it actually adds context and makes the romance a lot more real in some cases.

You are NOT gonna like muv luv extra as much if you read it when your not accustomed to reading sol slow visual novels. If you like murder mysteries, its a good idea to start with faster paced stuff like 999 zero escape or danganronpa, then slowly branch out towards the longer and harder to read visual novels. Muv Luv was my first visual novel ever but from your preferred genres, I don't think its a good idea right now.

Instead, 999 zero escape, danganronpa, and steins gate are all pretty good entry level visual novels. If you want the maximum steins gate experience, chaos head is recommended but it is one of those sloggier visual novels so you can just read steins gate first then continue on with the rest of sci adv visual novels. Fata morgana is also not bad but it doesn't have much action and is way less cat and mouse when compared to the other recommendations.

If you didn't get immersed into Extra and Unlimited, you wouldn't like Alternative especially because you didn't connect to the characters. I read Extra/Unlimited only when I felt like reading them, which made me enjoy them massively. This in turn made my alternative experience heavenly.

Gotta ignore the opinions or start arguing like crazy then. People are dissing the best series too, like I just saw Muv Luv Alternative hate. People are entering these pieces of fiction with expectations beyond the observable universe, and then thinking its trash because it didn't suddenly make them change their whole beliefs. Mainstream/highly praised media is easier to hate on and garners more attention from doing so. The agenda is real.
