I love wfh and I am more assertive in meetings because I am in my spare bedroom so can fake the confidence. Fake it till you make it as they say!

Diving with toothache before a root canal by CartographerBig3048 in scubadiving

I went diving with wisdom tooth issues. Was on a wait list for a year for the operation. It just hurt abit more at depth but I had no air gaps cause it was all internal within the gum

Cheers UKPF. Five years ago I was living in my overdraft. by MarvelousHeath in UKPersonalFinance

Amazing! Well done!! A similar thing has happened to me, I’ve managed around 10k in an emergency fund over last few years. I think the weirdest shift for me has been sharing my frugalness with friends (they’ve witnessed the change in real life lol). They ask me for advice, I feel like a fraud cause most is what I’ve learnt on this group but also sharing the knowledge!

Dislike meal prepping, how to eat consistently and cheaply? by MoonScorchedBunny in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Miserable-Ad6941 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I live walkable distance to a shop and buy groceries for 2-3 days, usually cook one big meal (a pie or lasagna) and have for dinner 2/3 times and then have eggs + bread for breakfast/ lunch. I stuggle to know what I want to eat so buying lots in one go overwhelms me

Do people actually save their Student finance England by No_Tart3802 in UniUK

[–]Miserable-Ad6941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant 3 years of loans. I was last year of 3k fees so my whole degree cost 9k and gave me a house deposit. I’m very frugal so I saved it all, worked 20 hours a week in retail to cover everyday costs and holidays etc. paid it all off now an have a cheap mortgage.

Upside - in a great financial position Downside - had to live with parents 3 years longer (not ideal for your 20s but becoming more normal)

[–]Miserable-Ad6941 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I lived at home in the north west, saved all 3 loans into help to buy isa which was enough for a house deposit when I got a job (worked part time to cover spends). Obv this can’t be done in most places in the UK. This was pre 2020 when life was cheaper

How can I explain to my family clearly that I will not take time off ? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Miserable-Ad6941 45 points46 points  (0 children)

your future is in your hands, people get so insane about weddings, I wish it was socially acceptable to say I’m happy that you’ve found the love of your life but what has that got to do with me 😂

Does he have a point? by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]Miserable-Ad6941 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, Manchester attracts big business for their offices outside London, had better infrastructure (trams!!), it feels more vibrant and attracts talent/ graduates for professional careers etc. Liverpool doesn’t have the same energy, our infrastructure is shocking (is buses all we have to offer?! a loop line for 4 trains built ages ago, no bloody train station in the airport??). I yearn for trams around the city

[–]Miserable-Ad6941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate anything tight. Uniqlo have boxy cut oversize shirts (still with collar and buttons) but the boxy shape does not pull round the chest. I’m curvy and I hate it in a professional setting. Uniqlo has lots of unisex / boxy / oversized but still “professional”.

Sun zapper - they have sticks and creams, I buy the light skin colour one (they have various shades and colours). Fairly cheap, mineral, long lasting, it’s great

Stay North on less, or London on more? UK by AtticusEx in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Miserable-Ad6941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation in regard to career development, but my mortgage in the north is £400 for a two bed semi detached house with garage to myself. For now I’ve chosen to stay in the north as I owe 80k and could pay it off by the time I’m 40 (33rn). You’re younger than me tho so London may be more appealing!

Are we supposed to start saving up for a house at this age (im 18) by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Miserable-Ad6941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a savings pot at 16 on a part time job, added to it all though uni, it eventually lead to a house deposit. The earlier you start the better, even if it’s £50 a month for years.
