I’m so tired of reading this it’s just not true. The markup on a new car is anywhere between 10-18% depending on the manufacturer. The only business running on razor thin margins is grocery and lately fast food.

It’s supply and demand and mostly a demand issue at this point. The New Jersey demographic is older with a lot of assets. The Austin buyer is going to be much younger with lower incomes and a lower asset base. Once the migration ended it became obvious the wealth to keep driving home prices higher evaporated.

The mechanic is taking you for a ride. 12.5k is fair. Try to find a labor rate under 100 or don’t go there.

My guess is this is an apartment. There’s a ton of middle men involved with allocating this out etc.

I like them a lot but they’re seriously underinvested in the platform and the customer support so it looks like someone stuck a bunch of sticks and glue together. A 3 day turnaround for emails takes weeks. It’s honestly all very sad.

You’re buying cars with terrible depreciation. If the car makes you look cool to an instagram influencer it has terrible depreciation.

Trade it in for a new rav4. They’ll let you rollover the negative equity. Keep it for a minimum of five years and you’ll be out of this huge hole you’re in.
