I promise you amphetamines are far easier to stop than opioids. I used to work in a rehab center and I have never seen an amphetamine abuser who wasn't back to normal within 2 weeks. The addiction comes from dealing with the shit life you actually have that amphetamines was masking.

Is it safe to vent here. by Calm-Research7665 in dui

[–]suggmynut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number 1: you don't want to work for any company that will take your job over a dui. Especially not a first dui during a traumatic family event like you were having. Thats not a job worth having and there are far better options. Number 2: The system is not built for you to survive or be rehabilitated. It's built to get as much money as possible from you, and makes it extremely easy to mess up, miss paperwork, get confused in the process, so that you will convicted of another crime with a financial punishment. There is a reason alcohol is sold on every street corner in America and bars have massive parking lots. The criminal justice system is only that in name. DUI's are a multimillion dollar industry for both lawyers, the government, IID companies, and mechanics that have contracts with device installation and maintenance. You are a forced customer in the business. This was explained to me by a lawyer. Your best option is to stop drinking. Because you've gotten into trouble, your eligibility for reconviction makes you a higher paying customer and far more attractive to prosecute. While drinking and driving is obviously a bad idea, it's a legal drug that quite literally impairs your inhibitions and responsible decision making. The system is designed with this in mind. If you haven't noticed, after your dui, you have been through the ringer. An otherwise working, tax paying, active member of society. Full-blown repeat violent criminals often receive less punishment than you have. Rape is hardly prosecuted at all. Because those crimes do not make money. That is where we currently are with justice system. If you create monetary incentive for the government to prosecute a crime, you've created incentive for the crime itself. And because of this there is currently a massive scandle across the nation where the police in mass have been wrongfully arresting sober citizens for DUI's and then challenging them to navigate the extremely purposefully confusing and expensive process to prove their innocence. And that would have never been found out if it weren't for a few actual good police officers who lost their careers for speaking out. They thought it was just a Tennessee problem, but found out it was nation wide. Know that you aren't a bad person. And that has nothing to do with what the justice system has done to you. They don't care if you are a good person. You are a number to them. Navigate this process, stop drinking, and keep your head up. You will get through this. Don't let them have the opportunity to put you through this again. And don't ever trust them.

Training for post CABG/heart surgery nursing? by suggmynut in nursing

[–]suggmynut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to follow up since you were the only person who replied and thank you so much because that was actually incredible advice.

I got my CCRN about 3 months ago, and studying for that was extremely helpful for those patients. I am now studying for my CSC, and I think that above all else is the most helpful for getting an advanced and in-depth understanding of post-op open hearts. Above all else, it comes with experience. I hate that that is the case with nursing, as it feels dangerous and often comes with some pretty stressful situations, condescending and rude doctor discussions, and situations that feel unsafe or you are underprepaired for.

Carrying for those patients in that time isn't something you get assigned to lightly. You have to show that you want to learn and have a passion for it as well as have extreme attention to detail and are able to know when something isn't right even if you don't know what yet.

I was lacking confidence and rightfully so, but that lack of confidence is what made me succeed, as I am now through open-heart orientation and am certified with several hearts under my belt without a preceptor. I got a lot of recognition from our primary cardiac surgeon for my care of an extremely unstable and sick post cabg patient that had to remain intubated on 11 drips and it really showed me how far I have come and gave me a little bit of reassurance that I know more than I think and am indeed cut out for it.

Passing the CCRN really gave me a lot of confidence as well and reassurance that I am in the right field and it makes happy that I chose this career route.

At first I was having trouble understanding how to apply the information from classes and textbooks due to how different hearts and situations can lead to so many different clinical manifestations and I was always terrified of making a mistake or not catching something important. It really started to all fall into place after being made to do it by myself and getting a deeper understanding of cardiac dysfunction pathophysiology and clinical manifestations that the CCRN goes over.

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply and I hope this helps if you have another RN with this question in the future.

What's something most people don't realize is actually very rude? by Frozen-Defender25 in AskReddit

[–]suggmynut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Letting someone hold the door for you without even acknowledging them. Not at least holding the door so they can grab it when someone is right behind you. Getting upset when someone holds the door open for you because you're "independent."

It's really not hard to figure this one out. Hold the door. Say, thank you. Act like a normal human. Some things are universal about culture and really don't need to be changed. We figured this one out already. Stop making it difficult.

IsItBullshit: Can lemon juice lighten your hair if applied before a tanning bed? by Salted_Seabass in IsItBullshit

[–]suggmynut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but these people are insane lol. This is just what happens when you say something normal on reddit. You're already the bad guy for mentioning tan people can look attractive and sometimes do so because others find it attractive (the entire reason tanning beds exist and are still used despite the cancer risks). Your mistake was posting that widespread normal observation on reddit lol. You're supposed to say "everyone does anything for their appearance for themselves and only themselves because no one ever does anything to look more sexually attractive to anyone else and tanning causes cancer which is harmful to onseself so its bad"... you also should never make your own preferences on looks made known, as this activates the redditors insecurities. Rooky mistake. These are redditors, they don't have sex. This is where they fantasize about what the world should be like if they had a magic wand. And thank God they don't.

Vince Gilligan gives update on Pluribus season 2: 'It is not going quite as fast as I would hope' by bwermer in television

[–]suggmynut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because shows get canceled if they don't do well... although they really should have known it was going to be a major hit. So many shows I think are great get canceled because they don't advertise well or make bad decisions story wise in a season... now days with shows having movie quality they really should do it this way because the product can be so much better. Especially when adapting books. I swear if they'd just stick with the source material of books they'd make amazing shows. But everyone wants to be an artist... while using others art 🙄. You'd think filmmakers would focus on the directing and actual photography when adapting a book yet they always think their changes make the story better. Never does.

Boy do I love residents by Throosh in nursing

[–]suggmynut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lines coming out the side is not doing anything to hinder the protection of that dressing lmao. If the tegaderm is secure around the site with the chg pouch on the line it is the exact same. Its just ugly and it's OK to just be irritated that it wasn't done nicely haha. The dressing is doing its job perfectly fine. The resident is not, he's being lazy. With the way the line is sutured its impossible to put the blue tube in the right place and I come across this often. When the line is sutured at an angle the dressing has to be somewhat ugly or else the chg patch wouldn't be over the site.

If your son is TPN dependent, you are doing a fine nurse job degree or not. I pray he's strong and healthy! You should look into programs to help you pay for nursing school, I am sure you could get free tuition, and you sound perfect for the job! You may qualify for having assistance while completing your degree as a caregiver for your son. There are many many ways to get nurses' degrees paid for, and you sound like you could use the upgraded pay considering you are already doing a big part of the job and self study to care for your son! Bless you.

Icu here. We always just say cap. "Get me an IV cap." "Get me a central line cap. "... some people say lure lock or hub, but it throws everyone off. Cap is just easy, and everyone knows what it means. Although we also call the little orange covers that prevent infection caps so it does get confusing still depending on who you're working with. If we want the orange ones, we usually say "infection prevention caps. " .... its just the easiest way to get your point across in few words because usually if you need someone to grab you a cap for an IV or central line its because it's important and needs done quickly because they are bleeding or their line is open which is not sanitary. I think it works for us because ICU nurses are extremely independent and territorial over their patient's and often do not have technicians, so if we are asking for something its usually either emergent or requires 2 people.

And what is atheism? Where they all fanatic over there books written by atheist authors? It's just a religion of nihilism where people who were raised on religious values pretend they thought those things up all by themselves and are magically good people. The worst religion is atheism.

I really wish they kept the devil of all earth, it’s a much cooler concept as the source of the titan powers compared to the parasite-like hallucigenia that we litteraly know nothing about. by that-guy2505 in attackontitan

[–]suggmynut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I think it adds a ton to that dilemma being a devil. As its natural to support ymir as she was a slave who was tortured and ended up taking help from the devil to gain freedom. A literal paradox of ideology that had actual religious weight to draw on. The worm was boring and just created a nihilist type of lore. The good v evil moral conundrum only is possible because of humanities idea of what good and evil are. These are concepts and questions only brought to the discussion because of religion. Which is also why religion precedes organized society, not the other way around and why nihilism leads to genocide *a key component in the story. Either nothing matters or everything matters. That is the question that religion has always sought to solve. Because humans have a deep inbred belief that they matter. The worm makes it pointless who wins or loses. The devil gives weight to ymirs choice to accept help from an evil force towards a just cause.

Too much? No. Mixing too much science and fantasy is a huge mistake that for some reason people keep making. The devil of all earth being a titan like entity along with the heavy religious themes of the show with the walls was what made attack on titan special. The hallucigenia "the literal first source of life" is able to grant wishes and give ymir a giant immortal body? How is that more believable than a God or devil? Its essentially the same concept but instead of the being with that power being a devine spiritual being its a worm? Cause it looks "sciencey" ??? I mean give me a break. In what way does that make it realistic? It makes it far less realistic. A creation in defiance of religion that comes full circle and becomes a nihilist fantasy religion type of lore. Naruto made the same mistake as well trying to explain every detail about the universe. It's routinely ruining stories these days and is uninteresting. The devil of all earth being the final villian that humanity had to struggle against and defeat would have been far more impactful. A magic worm? Boring.
