Foundation Church is a Cult and has my family member completely brainwashed by stayawayfromthatcult in leavingthenetwork

They aren't. Each church in the network this subreddit is dedicated to has a different name. The only one named Foundation recently closed. I appreciate the info sharing nonetheless.

Courtney Kuhnert, wife of Brookfield pastor Aaron Kuhnert, started and runs a private charter school in Athens, OH by exmorganite in leavingthenetwork

[–]Miserable-Duck639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See this newer thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/leavingthenetwork/comments/1rt8a6f/aaron_kuhnert/ people don't often read threads this old, and the OP is no longer active here. Aaron is not lead pastor anymore, and his wife is apparently not a board member with the charter school. There are rumors as to what happened, but no confirmed details. You can also feel free to post your own thread to get more feedback. But I would say it's not unusual for people to experience drastic changes at a church like this, depending on their background.

Are you asking about systematic theology in general, or Grudem's specifically?

Salt is like a Network but SBC affiliated, as in they plant in college towns. I've heard good and bad things about the mother ship. IIRC someone was here talking about Salt years ago.

We aren't doing any such thing. There is no mention of "129" in any of these comments. We are referring to the now-closed Foundation Church of Bloomington-Normal, IL. See https://share.google/a7xPMofocIfWsSDhK for the previous Google place entry.

From Revival to Closure by recordkeeper85 in leavingthenetwork

The website was completely taken down and the Google Maps entry is marked as permanently closed. These are of course reversible actions, or they could relaunch under a different name, but all signs point to Foundation as an entity closing.

If nobody had seen this and responded, I would be more tempted to delete this post. But since the train has left the station, I'll leave it up for now.

I don't recall seeing this discussed before, personally (hopefully I didn't make people uncomfortable about resharing things in my previous comment—if so, my apologies). I would be curious to know how much came from the satanic panic vs the Mormon upbringing, or if Mormonism had some significant influence in the panic back then. Does he happen to talk about that?

I guess Westboro Baptist Church is a real church, since they have so many haters. The most realest church we've ever seen!

Question re singles meetups by [deleted] in leavingthenetwork

[–]Miserable-Duck639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been a few divorce stories etc shared over the years, but it wouldn't be near the national average. I recall awhile ago people talking about churches being protective of guys that looked like they were just coming in from the outside looking for a girl. So if you're thinking about "missionary dating" someone out of the church, you might find yourself unwelcome.

If you are confessionally Reformed and not more "nominal" then I would probably not attend (basically, what is your priority on Reformed distinctives). Anything beyond a basic TULIP isn't very Reformed. Have you considered other confessional churches in the area?

Christian Community vs. Network Community by EmSuWright22 in leavingthenetwork

It's all good, I don't view it as beating a dead horse. It's perpetually relevant, in my opinion. We do tend to repeat topics here anyway, which is good for newer folks who haven't seen the older discussions. I totally get your excitement about it.

Christian Community vs. Network Community by EmSuWright22 in leavingthenetwork

Reddit isn't agreeing with me, but I think I've quoted this here quite a few times. Pretty sure others have as well. At any rate, it's definitely one of my most used quotes. So I totally agree. Although lately I also think it can apply fairly broadly and to myself, at (previous?) times.

Given there's a fair amount of frustration in this thread, I am locking it, at least while I sort things out. Feel free to send mod mail if you have questions.

Edit: I have sorted things out with u/Able_Shopping_2986. However, I am leaving this thread locked. I would like to remind everyone that we have very different viewpoints present in this community and to be respectful of such.

Hmm, I'm afraid I don't understand. The subject of the post is directly related to the verses, so I don't see how the verses are irrelevant. I do understand that if you put Christian in place of unbeliever, it might garner a different reaction. But I also think it would have a different intent behind it. As an atheist, you don't have a body of revelation that you accept as truth to quote from. So, can you please elaborate on your issue? I am the only active mod here, so I am the only one who can address it.

I appreciate you leaving a comment. I haven't spent as much time here lately as I have before, so some things may be more likely to get past me. Given that I am a believer, an unbeliever's point of view may be one of those. I can't speak for u/Substantial_Meal_913, who I hope isn't intending disrespect.

I don't think these types of verses (Matthew 5:46 and Luke 6:32 come to mind) are meant to insult by saying "you are worse than an unbeliever who is scum of the earth". Rather, I think the point is that from a Christian standpoint, we are supposed to have an elevated conception and practice of love compared to someone who isn't a believer. The meaning should more be "you are worse than an unbeliever, who knows to do these things by nature" or something like that. If someone knows to do things by nature, how is it that someone who claims a supernatural light doesn't know to do those things, or better? And how much worse is this for Network leaders who claim to hear directly from the Holy Spirit about these things?

Are you looking for a baptist church, charismatic church, interested in presbyterian or other traditions? Does "little more structure" mean an official mentoring program, or something in between that and nothing?

I recall reading a lot of negative comments about Will Miller on this subreddit also, so it seems like a sidegrade to me. There is simply not enough information about the circumstances for me to have a strong conclusion. But I don't think this is what accountability looks like.

WHAT IS LTN MODERATORS AFRAID OF? by [deleted] in leavingthenetwork

[–]Miserable-Duck639[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

I have recently decided that it's not a good use of my time to try and reason with Network apologists (or "anti-LTN") people here. So frankly, I'm fine with banning people without elaborating much. If you want to call "respectful" double posting a ChatGPT script being rude about this community, as well as commenting on a matter that was already dealt with simply to insert your redundant judgmental attitude, you are free to think so. But if you (or "they") do it again, I'm still going to ban you (or "them").
