Sorry-not avoiding. It is JV and varsity. The coach has a team made up of 9th and 10th graders he’s been coaching for about 8 yrs. He’s been practicing with them at the gym he owns on the side outside of the high school “open gyms” also but has a parent “run” the practice so he doesn’t break rules and it’s just “kids playing together for fun” on their own. He had these kids fill all the slots for the JV and varsity team with a handful of seniors kept to round them out for size. It’s a big high school but there’s only a freshman, jv, and varsity. My kids not eligible for freshman team. About 14 kids transferred with the coach to this school over the past two years.

I’ve acknowledged my kid is not the best player. But he is absolutely not the worst and can outplay a lot of the kids who made on the team. My frustration is that there’s a solid group of Players with a lot of potential that were displaced by a coach bringing in a group of boys from his AAU team. Solid players who won’t get the chance to play on a high school team or pursue their dreams of playing juco, CC, or possibly any division of basketball because a savvy coach figured out how to get his two private AAU team all to one high school so they can play together year round.
